Weihenstephaner Original

Weihenstephaner Original

A good beer takes its time. The long storage makes our yellow bright lager, “Original”, a flavourful beer enjoyed with fine pored, white foam. With a mild hoppy note and its pleasant fresh spicy taste, it goes very well with salads, poultry, stews or with a hearty snack. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

3.5 500 ml bottle from Thirsty. Pours a nice clear gold indicative of the style with a two finger white head. Pleasant aroma of noble hops and honey malt; taste of honey malt and a nice bite of noble hops, just as it should be. Spicier hoppiness than I thought. Very impressive supporting carbonation as well, and pleasant medium mouthfeel. A great delight.
3.3 Clear blond colour, white foam. Light malty, a bid bready, some notes of honey, easy drinkable. Refreshing.
4.0 Pale golden yellow and crystal clear. Very light with a very mild hop flavor and good malt balance. Very similar to a kölsch or very light pils. Highly carbonated with clean dry finish. Very nice.
3.8 Clear gold with a fair amount of visual carbonation in the form of tiny bubbles and a lasting head. Malty and grassy aroma with medium body and malty taste. Dry finish. Hard to find this style locally.
3.5 Old rating from 2018 - 500ml bottle brought back from Germany, pours straw yellow in colour with a white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of yeast, white bread, lime mineral tang, earth & light hops. Moderate body. Crisp slightly sweet finish
3.3 Bottle. Light golden body with a frothy, white head, diminishing. Aroma of toasted grain, bread, floral hops. Starts sweet with a finish that is lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body with a watery, but smooth texture. Clean and easy to drink.
3.5 Golden clear Helles with some hops and spiceness in the mouth. Aftertaste is a little sour
3.4 classic pilsner malt showcase. More spicy than fruity, very quality light lager. Edeka hamburg
3.6 How: bottle from pint. A bit chilled. BB: 15.09.21 Head: white, two finger. Colour: clear golden. Aroma: delicate herbal& floral notes, light bread, touch of banana. 3.5 Grassy, yeasty aroma. Crisp lager taste with noble hop bite and creamy mouthfeel. Quite tasty.
3.5 Bottle. Clear golden color, with a head head. Grain, light grassy hops, light bitterness, cracker, a bit watery, and a bit of skunk. Nice refreshing straight forward beer.
4.0 Outstanding lager. clean crisp and refreshing taste. Medium carbonate. Drank straight from the bottle
3.0 Aroma is buckwheat, grain, malts, bitter hops Flavour is malty, buttery, some hoppy bitterness and vegetables Much better than the other helles beers IMO
3.7 50 cl bottle from Hopt / Saveur Bière. The first thing I notice is how beautiful this beer looks when poured into a glass. Beautiful golden color with a rich, long-lasting foam. Aroma: Sweet malt and some hops. The taste is sweet but perfectly balanced. Very soft carbonation as mentioned in other reviews. Not that much going on inte finish but good nonetheless. Classic example of a well-made German helles. I found it to be very enjoyable.
3.2 Pale Yellow with grass and bisquit in the taste. Nice balance and not very sweet. IN the aftertaste some lemon and some soap
3.9 Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Pours a clear light golden colour with a medium sized white head. Soft carbonation. Aromas of cereals, hay, straw, grass and white bread. Taste is more of the same. Very crisp, clean and fresh taste. Medium to full bodied, smooth slightly oily mouthfeel. Top quality flavourful lager.
3.2 Pale straw pour from 1 pint 0.9 oz. bottle. High carbonation cascades and a white foam crown wave crashes and dissolves against the rim of my glass. Fresh, grassy and floral hop notes in addition to peppery spices in the aroma. First sip is clean, crisp, pure sparkling water followed by more grass hops, fermented wheat and malted barley. Biscuit, cereal, touches of caramel. Hops and malt are in balance, equally in focus. Very flavorful and pure taste. No frills, just clean and tasty beer with subtle grass and floral hop flourishes. Sessionable. Fresh. Quality. A rock solid, premium lager style beer.
3.3 Bottle from Sterk Amsterdam. Plenty of breads malt, some cookie dough, grassy hop to balance. Nice.
3.9 Bottle from Cork & Cask. Clear golden body with a white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of white bread, yeast, green banana and grass. Flavour of grass, lemony hops and a hint of white pepper. Medium body with a slick texture. Light fizz. Clean and refreshing. An excellent Helles.
3.7 Pours a crystal clear, golden coloration with a large, fluffy and visible carbonation. Smells of biscuity, slightly grainy malt and grassy, slightly floral hops. Taste is a great balance of sweet'ish biscuity, slightly bready and grainy malt and grassy, slightly floral hops, with a hint of hay coming through as well. Finishes quite crisp, with a light/medium bitterness and some biscuity, bready malt and grassy, floral hops lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and medium/strong carbonation. This is quite a crisp and clean Helles with a great balance of sweet'ish malts and grassy/floral hops, finishing with a good bitterness. A very nice, easy-drinking example of the style, but a little too sweet and floral for my personal taste.
3.7 Very golden colour. Spicy aroma, a little malt, Grassy. Plesent mild bitterness, slightly sweet finish. Easy to drink. Very good Helles.
3.4 11.2 bottle at The Winking Lizard in Copley, Ohio. Very grainy aromas. Golden in color with thin white head. Taste the grain. Pretty smooth with strong grain aftertaste. Very good beer for the style. Cheers!
2.5 Zlatnozute boje, tanka bijela pjena, srednje trajna. Klasični lagerske arome, med, trava i citrusi. Srednje gorčine, duzeg gorkog finiša. Vodene teksture, srednje prema jakoj karbonizaciji. Ništa specijalno.
4.0 Pours light golden with a perfect foamy white head. Malty backbone with a slight hop spicy bite.Clean and crisp, but still interesting. Really good example of a drinkable lager.
3.7 500ml bottle brewed in Germany at 5.1%. Large solid head, brilliantly bright and clear gold. Smooth sweet fruity aroma, a little mellow earth. Moderate carbonation. Mellow but to me undeniable tangerine hops - pretty nifty start! Middle has some super-smooth earthy, grassy suggestions, and then there's a hint of honey in the white bread finish, with a slight bready aftertaste. All-in-all, a classic German Helles with the stops pulled out. Even if this isn't my favourite style of beer, I have to give credit where credit is due - this has some work put into it. Weihenstephaner is a brewer of some quality, make no mistake. There's multiple ways this could have hit a duff note (for my sensibilities) or become unbalanced, and all are deftly skirted and avoided. Very solid, flavoursome German lager.
3.2 Pours clear light amber with three finger, white head. Aroma is bready malt, light caramel and light hops. Taste is caramel, moving to breadiness, light roast and light hops. Finish is caramel and bread. Decent Dortmunder.
