Black India Pale Ale. Sounds wrong, but tastes so right! An innovative new style challenges your preconceptions about how a dark beer should taste? Fade to Black is darker than a Metallica album cover and hoppier than a box of frogs on pogo sticks, this beer has a fascinating interplay between the fruity hops, dark toasted notes from the malt and the spicy rye.

Ingredients:

Grains: Pale, Crystal, Crystal Rye, Chocolate, Carafa III

Hops: Summit, Citra, Sorachi Ace

3.6 Pours black with low tan head. Aroma of coffee and dark chocolate, light citrus and blood orange. Taste is citrusy up front followed by a rich coffee bitter finish. Light and smooth body with soft carbonation.
1.9 not for me this one got it from ales by mail beer club don’t think i would have it again father in law liked it though
3.5 Bottle 33cl, a dark beer with huge copper head and good retention, nose is on dark malt and hop resin. Aroma is on dark malt, coffee, licorice, very roasted and dry with bitter orange, peach, mango and op resin, pine and grapefruit notes. Body is roasted with high bitterness, aftertaste on roasted malt and hop resin.
3.9 Quite complex and subtle. At firstI found it underwhelming but it grew on me. More malty then hoppy. Coffee, chocolate and liquorice in the malt. Pine and citrus, topical fruit in the hops. The bitterness develops over time so it becomes more like an IPA than a stout. Great one.
3.7 33cl bottle @home (bottled 2013, BB 10/2015). Pours opaque black with thick creamy lasting brown head. Full body, creamy-oily texture, fair lacing, lively carbonation, bitter finish. 3.1 Perhaps I got a bad bottle of this, but it’s nowhere near what is described in the other reviews. Pours nearly black with moderate tan head which dissipates slowly. Almost neutral malty aroma with hints of coffee. Tastes of dark chocolate and coffee, with a bitter dryness. Finishes dry and bitter.
3.7 Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty and hoppy grapefruit aroma. Roasted malty hoppy bitter chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty hoppy bitter chocolate grapefruit finish.
3.6 35 cl bottle @ home. Pours dark brown with a tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma and flavour are roasted malt, grapefruit, and pine (the Sorachi Ace is pretty dominant) - with a slightly bitter finish.

3.9 (33 cl bottle from Brewbot Belfast; BBD: June 2016; Batch #198; ABV: 6,5%) Poured at fridge temperature into a stemmed burgundy glass reveals a pitch black body with one finger tan head. Good retention and beautiful lace. Aroma is of sprucy hops with a backdrop of t toasted malt - gives me associations with the dark electric quality of the Fundamental Blackhorn and Mikkeller’s Beer Hop Breakfast. Oily texture, soft carbonation, medium body and a lingering bitter finish. Flavour is moderately bitter but retains a high degree of drinkability. A well-made beer from Weird Beard!
4.5 Bottle at Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Ink black with hints of indigo. Opaque as the soul of the damned. Chocolate malt, pine needles in the scent. A wonderful tropical fruit note with liquorice and hints of stone fruit. Taste is incredible... Christmas stocking sweet gives way to a juicy intense bitterness. Flavours as diverse as espresso, white grape and prunes. This is an incredibly balanced BIPA. An incredible beer. One of my favourites in a long, long time.-----------Re-rate, cask at CASK pub and kitchen. Still an incredible beer but the intense properties feel muted under cask dispense. Rated 4.2. overall average drops from 4.7 to 4.5.

3.8 Bottle. Pours a black colour with a foamy tan head. Aroma of mango, orange, some brown sugar, some cocoa, subtle coffee, roasted malts and subtle pine, kind of like skittles. Taste of grapefruit, orange, roasted malts, liquorice, some chocolate, subtle coffee and blackcurrant. Medium bodied and moderate carbonation. A roasted bitterness with some fruitiness in the finish. So smooth and easy drinking, great roasted bitterness with some citrus flavours. A good black IPA but more hoppiness would be perfect.

3.8 330ml bottle. Drank from a La Chouffe tulip...Grapefruit hops dance through roast malt and chocolate ..like a mini rave . Large khaki head ...i’ve seen blacker more bad ass looking beers . dry roast coffee , lots of chocolate , rich pungent hops lurk in a dimension that mixes well ..fuck these black ipa’s all taste the same and i do like their simplistic mesh of two fucken styles . a classy black and tan. CDA. watever
3.9 Bottle at home... pours black with a tan head with lots of lacing. Citrus aromas dominate, grapefruit and orange... thick and creamy in the mouth, with slightly roasted chocolate malts with a citrus hop backbone. Nice burnt bitter finish. Great stuff.
