3.8Bottle direct from the brewery. Pours dark brown with a light brown head. aroma of dark fruit, chocolate, malt, nuts. Nice!
3.8Single bottle from the brewery. Pours a beautiful clear brown with a thin head. Rich fruity aroma; very nice. Malty fruity taste with some raisins and a dry finish. Good stuff!
2.7From bottle. Pours with slight white head and dark caramel colour. Slight malty aroma and strong slightly bitter taste.
3.5Nice roasty malt taste. The finish is a little bit weak and watery or else I would probably give it an even higher mark but on the other hand that makes it easy to drink and it is still a very nice strong ale. Most of the flavour is in the foretaste. This brewery seems to be much better with darker, stronger beers than lighter pale beers.
3.5(bottle) clear dark amber with small brown head; faint aroma of stewed fruit, bit metallic at the beginning; balanced satisfying flavour, quite good
3.1Bottle (one of the sweetest bottle caps ever). Pour is deep clear brown with a small quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is corn malt, faint dark fruit, and light brown sugar. Flavor is lightly sweet with notes of brown sugar and faint fruit. Very clean flavor and effervescent body. This is so easy to drink.
3.6very nice aroma of roasty malts, chocolate and sweet fruit (cherries?). the flavour was quite nice too, a little on the light side but very good for an ontario beer.
3.5Old rate. 355ml bottle from my cellar, aged for a couple of years. Having had this before I can’t say aging has done anything remarkable for this beer. Tastes much as it did when first bought. Pours a deep, dark copper colour. Aroma of raisins, and lots of malts. Has a hoppy and sweet flavour with moderate complexity. Alcohol appears towards the end but in balance. Decent.
3.4341 bottle. Pours deep red-brown with thin white head. Nice aroma of berries, malt, maybe raisins? Taste is complex and sweet, with slight bitter finish. Has that characteristic Wellington taste that I can’t quite put my finger on. Great winter-warmer, and stands alongside the Imperial Stout as this brewers best work.
3.3pours dark red brown, no to little head, get coffee and caramel/toffee aroma, somewhat smooth, little bitter on the finish.
3.5341mL bottle from manuchampions, pours cloudy golden amber with a small head. Aroma of oak, bourbon, vanilla, and a little coffee. Flavour is quite oaky, with vanilla, a bourbon aged quality and caramel malts. Quite good.
3.4341 ml bottle from Beer Store. Pours a clear dark brownish ruby with small off-white to light tan head. Aroma is fairly mild with nuttiness and sweet fruit. Flavour is quite malty - caramel and nutty with some sweet dark fruit, light chocolate and roast.
3.3Solid strong beer with a pretty complex malty flavour and an alcoholic bite. Wouldn’t drink large amounts of it, but it’s well worth trying.
3.3@Kai Goes to China Sendoff-thanks EdN-12oz bottle-pours a light tan head and copper color. Aroma is medium malt-caramel, spice/herbal hops. Taste is medium malt-caramel, herbal hops.
2.2Dark, from a bottle, not a smooth taste, the taste seems a little all over the place. I wouldnt buy this beer again
3.7Bottle. Pours a deep reddish brown with a very thin light tan head. Mild caramel thats nuitty with good malting. The mouth is full and rich with dark fruits, complex sugars and a slight hopsy bitter. A great brew.
4.0tap at pub italia, ottawa. clear light brown pour with a nice light beige head, good retention and lacing. nutty, smooth caramel, warming alcohol, neutral engilsh yeast, grass. moderate carbonation, medium body - velvety, grassy finish. much enjoyed!
3.3341ml bottle.
Appearance : Dark amber with big creamy brown head. Long head retention, some lacing.
Aroma : Very nutty, yeast, butterscotch with spices. Lots of malt. Some red fruits. Feels a bit like a Belgian Quad...
Taste : Roasty, malty and quite nutty. A bit spicy. Finish is malty with butterscotch and a light bitterness.
Overall : Easy drinking. Nice roasty finish but a bit weak overall. I don’t like the butterscotch profile.
3.3341ml Bottle from the Beer Store. Pours dark ruby brown with a medium off white head. No real distinguishable aromas except for typical malty/bread. Medium, almost chewy and nutty mouthfeel with a pleasant lingering caramel-like finish. Alcohol is hidden well within this beer. Quite pleasant, sessionable ale at such a strength.
3.2341ml bottle. Pours a deep amber with moderate tannish head that leaves a thin lace. The nose is dominantly sweet stewed fruit and caramel with hints of corn meal and butterscotch. Almost all malt on the palate with banana and cloves. The finish is long, dry and malty. Overall a solid brew but not a personal favourite.
2.6dark amber in colour. malted caramel tones but i amalways surprised by the amount of soap box characters i find in this bottle at the beggining, which disappears quickly but it is still there. some bread and roasted almonds.
I find the mid palate on this one thin. it finishes nice and malted and almost roasted coffee. like most ontario brews, which i find on the lighter side of things, it can have large commercial appeal. it is a good session beer and i wouldn’t mind having this but it doesn’t stand out to be as being fantastic.
3.6A pleasant surprise, Bottle. Light carbonation, almost no head. Pleasant aroma. Dark amber. Caramel & Chocolate. Sweet finish.
3.9341ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is nutty, with heavy notes of cocoa, molasses, and alcohol. The taste is again cocoa heavy, with faint molasses, woody notes, vanilla, dried fruits as it warms, and a bitter finish. Really seems to have improved in the last couple of years. Flavourful and easy drinking. Well done.
2.8Bottle in a trade with matt7215....7-30-09....Licorice and brown sugar aroma--they don’t mix well.....reddish brown with no foam....malted cherry ....light bodied yet substantial...well balanced and good
3.6Dark ruby cola colour with a thin head. Aroma is gorgeous, it’s almost like sticking your nose into a good whisky or bourbon bottle. Oak, spice malt in the aroma. Taste is great, with a great spicy aftertaste. Full flavour and mouthfeel with a little bitterness. Great beer, glad I bought a 6’er.
3.1On cask at Volo. Appearance: purple red with no head. Aroma: port, malt, spice, alcohol. Flavour: spicy malt followed by a nice vine flavour with grass and bitterness to follow. Nice long bitter finish.
3.0Bottle. Pours a dark brown with amber highlights, medium tan head. Aroma is sweet burnt toffee, faintly fruity. Sweet caramel flavour, a little nutty and fruity with a surprising smokey element. Medium bodied, sweetness lingers in the finish impairing its drinkability somewhat. Still, decent enough.
3.5Ruby brown , minimal off-white head, had no lacing, alcoholic warming, aroma of dark fruits, berries, roasted malt and malty bitterness. Medium carbonation, reminds me of Trois Pistoles. Pretty decent alcohol is a little overwhelming, but still a decent offering.
3.6Nice brown colour, good size head. Nose; nutty, caramel, coffee, very sweet. Flavours were similar, not quite bitter enough of a finsh. But good.
