Westbrook / Evil Twin Mini Growler

Any store or bar or whatever who wants to do this is of course at risk of getting in trouble but for most they feel the reward out weighs the risk.

First Batch = 12% abv

Second Batch = 10.5% abv

[I am changing this beer to reflect it as being a collab brewed at Westbrook, not a Evil Twin beer contracted to Westbrook as Jeppe had entered it. The bottle lists Westbrook as the first brewery, as well as "BREWED AND BOTTLED BY: WESTBROOK BREWING CO. MOUNT PLEASANT, SC. -Drake]

3.7 At Max’s place, Pours black with a beige head, aroma of caramel, toffee, coffee, flavor of toffee, caramel, roasted malt, roasted pig, sweet, chocolaty, medium to full bodied, nice
3.7 Dark brown with a small, fingers worth, of dark tan bubbles. Fairly straightforward scents, with roasted malts, dark fruit and hints of alcohol. Full, light oily feel. Lots of heavy dark malts. A touch meaty and a little iodine and soy sauce. Yup, a big stout. No major faults. Longer finish with hint of peat and ash.
4.0 Tap at J’s. Pours a deep brown to black with a silky beige head that lingers. Big cacao and chocolate milk nose with some dark fruit and coffee as it warms. More cacao nib, roasted malt and yoohoo chocolate drink on the palate. Chewy texture and quite satisfying. Roasted chocolate and bitter cacao on the finish, but also kind of silky smooth. Solid.
3.9 Bottle from the brewery. Pours black/brown with a creamy tan head. Tastes like smooth booze, ashy wood, syrup, some tobacco, and rich dark chocolate malt. Medium body and low/medium carbonation. Smells like dark chocolate malt, tobacco, and ashy wood.
3.4 650ml bottle @ Alex’s. Pours black with a small dark brown head. Nose is a weird fruity note, some grains, and some roasted character. Flavour is again that possibly dark fruit flavour, somewhat grassy grains, and a moderate roasted malt.
3.5 Bottle - Molasses and dark sugars. Jet black with a rich brown head. Much like its nose, sweet and dark with some sugars and a long finish with booze. Nice silky mouthfeel. Not as good as I hoped.
3.7 Tasting at Alex’s. Bottled on 24-Mar-2016. Pours an opaque almost black with a brown head. Aroma is sweet, molasses, leather, grassy. Taste is boozy, sweet, burnt malt, molasses. Just an ok IS, not more.
3.7 Bottled 3/24/16; 10% ABV Blank color, medium brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, some chocolate, evident Band Aid. The mouthfeel is smooth, strong; the flavor is mostly chocolatey, sweet, with leather, but also too much boozyness. Ungraceful but good.
3.3 Black. Heavuly roasted malt. Medium sweet l, sugar. Thick palatenothinf new but thisnisngood.
3.6 Bottle. Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has dark earthy grains and roasted malts with a bit of earthy chocolate backing. Flavor has earthy dark grains and strong roasted malts with some chocolate underlying.
3.7 22oz bottle. 10.5% version. Aroma is cane sugar, chocolate, roasted malty, 3 muscateers candy bar. Taste is sweet dark malt, very European style imperial stout, slight smoke.
4.1 Bomber at Darkness Day. Dense dark pour. Rich dense sweet deliciousness. Mild anise. Cocoa and booze. Yum!
3.9 Bomber shared at Darkness day. Dark brown pour. Metalic booze aroma. Nice booze, some sweetness. Really like this.
3.7 Chuck’s 85th, Seattle. Listed as 10.3%, so who knows the batch. Solid, heavy, wet black. Thick sweet, cherry fruity malt aroma. Heavy sip, lots of wet fruity alcohol. Heavy beer, about average body for the stated weight. Plenty of fresh soy, coffee, cherry fruit and more conventional stout flavors. Fairly tasty, no real flaw, but not the most interesting profile for this style and weight of stout.
4.3 Bottle shared with brother, thanks for the share. Aroma: Smokey bacon, fig, light roasted malt, light chocolate. App: pitch black, small brown, nice lacing. Taste and palate: full body, amazingly creamy mouthfeel, light sweetness, light bitter finish. Some fruits in mouth as well Overall: amazing. The mouthfeel is incredible. Can’t get enough of it. Really really good. I will sure try to get my hands on another bottle.
4.0 Pours with no carbonation. Thick, earthy aroma with lots of booze. Thick mouthfeel that coats your tongue. A nice sting of booze hits the roof of your mouth and the back of your throat. Smooth with a mild earthy taste. Very well done. Bottle.
3.9 Black pour from 22oz bottle at Lakehouse. White head. Tobacco, smoke, molasses, cocoa and leather. A lot going on. Boozy but good.
3.9 Bottle from Abv. Pours a jet black color with a small beige head. A big smoky roast nose, dark fruit. A big sweet ashy flavor, licorice, smoke, burnt caramel. Solid big Scandinavian stout made in the USA. Sugary toffee.
4.8 Aroma is more smoked than anything with some malt and strength mixed in. This is a stellar beer. A strong smokiness that overpowers the sweetness just barely but enough. Really little to nothing to complain about here, other than that 8-12 ounces is probably all one can do. Top notch.
3.0 Big punch of coffee and smoke astringency. Flavor settles down in the finish, but the bitterness is distracting.
3.7 22oz bomber shared by Joe at Dave’s. Pours black with a small foamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and some earth. Taste of black malts, sour chocolate, earth, caramel, sweet dark fruit, and dry wood in the finish.
3.6 2nd batch .... Black pour with a thin ring of tan head .... Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and light licorice ...... Taste is of roasted malts, chocolate, sweet sugary and coffee with a light nutty flavor and a hint of dark fruity yeast ..... Dry and roasted finish with lingering chocolate ... Solid decent imperial stout
3.7 Bottle. Pours black. Aroma and taste are roasted malts, dark fruits, and some chocolate.
4.2 22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 3/24/2016. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark brown head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, fudge, toffee, caramel, molasses, toasted dark bread, raisin, plum, fig, date, licorice, smoke, wood, leather, tobacco, light char, and roast/smokey earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, fruity yeast, and moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, fudge, toffee, caramel, molasses, toasted dark bread, raisin, plum, fig, date, licorice, smoke, wood, leather, tobacco, light char, and roast/smokey earthiness. Moderate roast/char and herbal/spicy hop bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, fudge, toffee, caramel, molasses, toasted dark bread, dark fruit, licorice, smoke, wood, leather, char, and roast/smokey earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, fruity yeast, and moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and no astringent hop/roast flavors after the finish. Light dryness from roast/hop bitterness, increasing though the glass. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy/slick, and moderately sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is fairly well hidden with a light warmth lingering after the finish; with no booziness. Overall this is an outstanding imperial stout. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, fruity yeast, and moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.
4.0 Oil black with tan head. Aroma is rich chocolate with some almond notes. Taste is the same, with beautiful cocoa and toast. Rich and sweet, but not cloying. Thanks, Dan!
4.4 Opaque, near black body with nearly a half inch of dense, beige head. If Evil Twin is involved, the stout will have a beautiful appearance. Roast and chocolate in the nose. Lovely. Terrific flavor. So rich and full. Silky on the palate. This, friends, is a world class imperial stout.
3.6 [8138-20160415] Tap. Mild nutty roasted malt aroma. Black cola body with a quick foamy off-white head. Roasted malt and nutty cola and sweet woody taffy chilies flavour. Full body. Good. (7/3/7/4/15) 3.6 (@ Blue Monk, Buffalo, NY) Overheard: "Do you know what Tim in Albuquerque wants?"
2.9 [ keg ][ 4oz ][ @Bier Station ][ $4 ][ snifter ][ 06.04.16 ] sepia with thin tan head, drops to oily ring. Stinging licorice sweet dirty nose, boozy with light oat elements. Boozy, inky front palate, light wheat and wood to balance but way sweet inky chocolate with licorice hints all through front and mid palate. Finishes creamy oat, still licorice and booze.
4.1 Bomber stashed behind the counter at Giant Eagle in Grandview. Bottled in March... so 2nd batch I guess: black pour, medium brown head that disappears quickly. nice aroma of chocolate, tobacco, molasses, dark fruit. tastes are rich cocoa, chocolate, roasted malts, light woody, faint smoke. finishes with coffee. palate is thin to medium slick oily. pretty drinkable for all that’s going on.
3.6 Batch 2 (10.5%), what pain this was to find on the site. Black pour, tan head, good lace/retention. Aroma is fairly textbook - roast, chocolate, caramel, light darker fruit, light licorice. Medium to full body, flavor matches aroma with a lightly sweet finish, oily mouthfeel. Good but forgettable.
