Westmalle Dubbel

Westmalle Dubbel

A reddish brown trappist ale, malty and fruit, utilising a 3 week secondary fermentation. This ale has a full, pale yellow head. The bouquet is full of esters and fruitiness. Notes of ripe banana predominate. The taste is fruity and slightly bitter, with a long, dry finish.

4.6 Brune bien ronde et fruitée. Très équilibrée.
5.0 Dark reddish brown beer. Very rich, spicy and fruity flavor with a fresh and bitter finish. Drink quite cold.
5.0 BESTES DUBBEL!!! 09-2019
2.8 I expected a bit more from this. It's ok and is what you'd expect from a Trappist ale but it's nothing special. Murky reddish brown colour A - bready apple banana F- fair bitterness similar to aroma dry finish You'd never think it was 7%
3.7 A sweet, dark dubbel. Tons of flavor.
3.0 Caramel, yeast, a little bit of herbs or maybe dried fruits in the taste/aroma. All in all modestly good beer.
4.2 Malty with fruity flavor, banana
3.5 Beer Tasting @REWE Thomasberg 01.04.
Aroma a cacao, frutos secos, caramelo, clavo. Sabor a caramelo, cacao, frutos secos, banana, clavo. Cuerpo medio, más amarga que dulce, intensa, diferente a otras dubbel belgas, bastante buena.
3.7 Popular cerveza belga, cuerpo medio, oscura y con espuma poco persistente. Interesante mezcla dulce, lúpulo, tostado y justo toque alcohólico nada molesto.
4.1 Pours a rich mahogany from a bottle, light khaki colored foamy head. Caramel, yeast, clove aroma. Similar flavor but rich esters present, effervescent, initial sweetness offset by rising bitterness. Very good beer.
3.4 Brown with thin off white head. Aroma is dried fruits and berries . Medium mouthfeel , fruity with balanced bitterness .
4.8 It pours a dark reddish brown with a large, off-white, long lasting head. I detect the aromas of toffee, red wine, dried fruit & leather. This is a complex and delightfully well brewed beer with a wonderful velvety mouthfeel. This is exceedingly easy to drink despite the ABV & depth of complexity. I taste toffee, caramel, figs, dates, & raisins along with a wonderful creamy quality. I can't recommend this one enough.
W smaku zdecydowanie bardziej przyprawowe, ziołowe niż słodowe i owocowe. Finisz zdecydowanie wytrawny, generalnie piwo w odbiorze raczej wytrawne. Aromat obiecujący, smak rozczarował.
4.2 Dark brown pour with an almost white head; aromas of grian/malts, dried fruit, some yeast. Tastes of caramel, candy, dired fruit, red berries, a touch of spices. Good stuff.
4.5 Roasty, malty and sweet. Balanced booziness
3.2 Decent for a Belgian beer
4.5 Full taste
3.8 Pours dark brown with a nougatcoloured foam. Nose is mint, toffee, syrup, Mouth is sweet, raisins, plums, toffee, cocoa, some coffee, vanilla, anis.
2.6 Sampled at Max's Belgian Fest 2022, pours a muddy brown, no head. Raisin and prune nose, candy, malt. Flavor is malt, raisins, prune, fig, candy. I've had better expressions of this beer. The tap treatment didn't do it justice, but alas, that is the version I'm rating. Flabby finish.
4.1 Bottle from 151 For The Road. Don't know why I never rated this before, has been a favourite for a long time. Pour is dark red teak with gargantuan tan head. Aromas of toffee apple, raisin, yeast esters. Taste is brown sugar, candy floss caramel, more raisin, fig, some complex spice combo - possibly orange peel, coriander, nutmeg, but it's very subtle and blurred (this beer always reminds me of the spice / herb elements in Coca Cola). It's sweet and delicious in every way. Mouthfeel is full, has a nice tingle in the carbonation. It's also dangerously easy to drink, it spite of the heavy sounding flavours I've described. So just a testament to the brewing techniques on show. Complex and well-integrated, just a classic Belgian benchmark.
4.9 Malty
4.0 Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from Beautiful Beers. After 14 or so years on RB, finally rating this! Pours clear brown with a frothy beige topping. Medium sweet flavour with nicely rounded dark and semi-dark fruits, a little toffee, grape, raisin, yeast, bread, fruitcake. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet but nicely balanced finish, toasted malts, more dark fruits, brown sugar, mild bitterness. Very tasty and mighty drinkable.
3.5 Malty and fruity Trappist style beer. Hints of banana notes
