Westvleteren Blond

Westvleteren Blond

Westvleteren Blond is the basic beer for the monks’ own consumption, since 1999, when the former 6° dark ale (red cap) was finally discarded, after the 4° had already gone that path.

3.6 gefunden in einerm Biergeschäft in Budweis.
4.3 From a bottle shared with johnnniee. Thank you. The pour is light amber-yellow under a large, lingering white head. The aroma has a touch of fruit, banana, toast, and Belgian yeast. Inviting. The body is light-medium. The taste is delightfully sweet and toasted with a light light fruitiness to end. Topnotch for the style.
3.5 Look: Pours almost clear straw yellow with a big lasting white head. Nose: Green banana, a little ripe banana, a little dusty, hay. Taste: Clean, crisp, grain, green banana, dry not much bitterness. Overall: A nice drinkable beer for sunshine, but not an explosion of taste.
3.5 Pale, slightly hazy. With a good and lasting white head. Aroma: A wonderful malty aroma, honey, hay, grains, bread. A bit of hoppy citrus as well as esters (pear). Mouth: Fruity sweetness but essentally quite dry, especially the end is dry/bitter. Light/Medium body.
4.4 Ciemno żółty kolor, jednolicie zmętnione, biała, bardzo drobna i bardzo trwała lekko mydlana pianka. Aromat delikatny, ale złożony - słody, owoce, zioła, trochę pieprz, trochę żelazo. W smaku świetne, lekkie, ale satysfakcjonujące, wysycenie wysokie do średniego, owocowe z ziołową goryczką. Chyba idealny Belgian Blond. Nie przereklamowane.
3.5 Gold hazy colour. Persistent foam. Nose is fruity and bread. It tastes roasted malt with perfect balance between hops and malts. Aftertaste fades quickly but it leaves a grassy bitterness. A good beer.
4.2 Sampled Feb. 10, 2021. From a Westy sampler six-pack received for Christmas. Grassy, spicy, lemon, bready malt...a delicious, well-balanced blond. Such a treat to have anything from this brewery.
3.6 Aroma; fruits, soft sweet malt, dried fruit, herbal spicy hops, yeast, syrup. Look; big huge off white head, on hazy gouden body. Taste; dried fruits, sweet malt, spices, more fruit, herbal hops, yeast, syrup, and finishes to the malted side with some balancing hops. Feel; pleasant body and co². Overall; nice belgobeer. [slim bruin bottle 33cl, possibly from hypermk pl, T@apt o PivotekaH7]
3.8 Light straw color. Bright. Pure white head. Light lacing. Candy sugar nose with belgian yeast and ether. Big Bitterness. Fine but pronounced carbonation. Full creamy mouthfeel.
4.2 Bottle from the abbey, thanks to Mattias you legend. I was very excited to try this knowing how much I apprecaite these lower abv trappist beers like Chimay Dorée. The aroma is quite metallic, in the kind of old cantillon way, the hops are quite pronounced in the aroma. Almost witbier smell at times. Nice light yellow gold colour with a decent lasting thin foam. As always, the westvleteren beers taste extremely mature and don't make you revel in the taste but rather the feeling. The taste shows off the hops very well, almost a Citra-esque taste in there. An exceptional fizz with every taste that gives way to a strong bitterness and then a boozy kick up the backside for its slight 5.8%. This boozy ending can feel at times a little too much. That said, I had to come back and add that mouthfeel to a 5, simply because, despite those reservations, I keep wanting to come back for more! Over too quickly. Overall though, this beer is a total class act, and would drink it happily alnogside the other two with no preference (in fact, I rate it higher than the other two, which is sacrilege no dobut). (18/1/21). --- Rerated, bottle from the abeby thanks to Mattias. Aroma is that delicate, slightly funky Belgian aroma. Standard hazy gold but with lovely lasting brew like foam. Perfection in terms of a gentle Belgian ale. Slight citrus and hop. Fantastic beer. Mature ending. 4.3 to 4.2 (8/11/21) ----- Bottle at In De Vrede, by the Abbey. Gentle aroma, with some elderflower. Lovely westvleteren fizz to it. One of the best blondes about, no doubt. Had temptation to lower to 4.1 but why when I think it's really gonan be hard to beat as a blond.
3.6 33 cl bottle @ home. Pours clody yellow with a white head. Aroma and flavour are lemons, spices, and yeast - with a slightly dry finish.
2.5 Weinig diepte, geen complexiteit, mist body
4.2 Almost clear golden color and a nice white head. Nose is yeasty, faint grassy, spicy. Taste is rather herbel / spicy bitter. Nice hops and a dry-bitter finish
3.6 33 cl. bottle @ Dennis and Patries. Light hazy golden with a white head. Fruity yeasty aroma with some hops. Sweet taste with a nice bitter finish. Very nice blonde.
4.0 0,33 litre Bottle, shared with friends. Cloudy yellow with white head. Malts, hops, yeast, sweetness,
4.1 Bottle from Etre Pours a brilliant light gold color with a huge rocky white head that shows great retention. Rich bready crackery maltiness with a touch of honey. Earthy spicy hop and peppery yeast phenols to counter. Delicate flavorful well crafted beer.
5.0 unbelievable tasty trappist with only 6%vol alcohol
Retrogusto suave, recuerdos florales. Excelente.
3.8 330ml bottle at Gambrinus, Bruges on 31/07/2010. It’s true, it’s not as good as the 12 or 8, and not really in the same league, but it’s also not really trying. It’s still bloody tasty for a straight up blond, though at a mere 5.8%.
3.7 Adding in my 300 Beers To Try ticks because I want to see how they impact my stats and some of them I will never see again. Will however re-rate them when practical.
4.5 Tastes malty, sweet, honey, lemon, spices. Dry and bitter finish. Awesomely balanced, second best beer from Westvleteren in my opinion (right after Westvleteren 12).
4.0 Flaska.
4.1 Clear golden color with large lacing and long lasting off-white head. Aroma has caramel, malt, hay and some fruits. Taste is malty sweet with long somewhat bitter and dry aftertaste. Flavors of citrus, yeast, sweet fruits, spices and hay. Excellent carbonation and taste that makes you want to take more sips.
3.6 złote, z bardzo ładną pianą, nieprzejrzyste. Aromat estry, przyprawy, zboże, jasne owoce, drożdze. W smaku podobnie.
4.0 Light yellow color, good head. The aroma is bananas, yellow fruits, vanilla. Pleasantly rich. The taste is quite similar, but there is also some bread, good hoppy bitterness and grassy spices. A bit of sourness as well. Still quite a creamy mouthfeel. Light to medium body. Actually quite complex and tasteful for a beer with less than 6% alcohol. Very nice!
3.5 Fles gekocht in België, thuis geprobeerd.
