Weyerbacher Blasphemy

Weyerbacher Blasphemy

Blasphemy is our award winning QUAD aged in bourbon barrels. But not overaged, so we've picked up gentle vanilla oaky notes which complement rather than supercede the complex qualities that already make QUAD such an incredible beer.

4.3 Pours a dark burgundy with a think khaki head that quickly dissipates. Lots of wood and whiskey on the nose with notes of toffee, raisins, prune with a heavy malt presence. The wood and whiskey attack your palate followed by flavors of raisins, dark fruits and caramel. Full bodied, moderate carbonation, medium viscosity. The wood gives you a lasting dry finish in the roof of your mouth and the alcohol is hot in the throat. The intro says that this is not overaged but my guess is that the whiskey barrels were freshly emptied since you have an aggressive whiskey presence. I am glad it is aggressive because it fits so well.
3.4 A nice quad overall. Pours a deep red-brown with a tan head. Smells of berries. Taste is berries, quite malty, with some creme and licorice. Had in the bottle.
4.0 A very unique quad. Tons of body and flavor. Pours medium brown with a thick frothy head. Favors are rich butter, buttermilk, milk chocolate, and chocolate malt. Warm, but not overpowering alcohol feel. Goes perfect with milk chocolate.
4.1 Had a sample at WOBFest 2016. Another offering that I rushed to try first. Really good quad with tons of spice that is balanced out by the plum flavor nicely. Well done.
3.4 Woody brown color with small tan head. Oaky, caramel, purple fruit aroma. Medium full body. Some alcohol, minimal carbonation. Very sweet, fruity, boozy, some wood. Flavors are good but a little too sweet and medicinal.
3.9 It’s heavy handed, it plays all it’s cards right up front. People who don’t love bourbon barrel aging might get tired of it before the bottle is empty, but I’m a sucker for oak. This beer pours medium brown with average head and carbonation. The aroma is vanilla, bananas, liquor, warm malt, and, of course, oak. That’s the flavor, too. Nothing subtle and not really complex. Having said that, I enjoyed every predictable drop.
3.7 Aroma caramel, alcohol, woody, dark fruits, Appearance red, minimal head, Taste medium sweetness, heavy sweetness, Palate medium body, full body, sticky, Overall bottled on 4/20/15 drank on 4/20/16. There is no head on this beer at all. Maybe a slight presence of alcohol but it has mellowed out. Nice warmth down the throat. Hints of dark fruits and medium to heavy sweetness. I would suggest this beer to a friend.
4.0 Pours a nice cola colored brown. Aromas of dark malts, fruit, and a touch of spice. Has flavors of chocolate, caramel, and a touch of wood.
4.6 Aroma: vanilla, oak, Belgian yeast, alcohol, plums, caramel Appearance: hazy amber with a beige head Taste: medium sweetness, medium bitterness, Palate: full body, creamy, soft carbonation, long finish, Delicious
3.7 It pours brown with some clouding. The head doesn’t last very long. It has aromas of bread, plums, spices, alcohol and whiskey. The malt is very dominant in initial flavors with toast, a rich taste, caramel, alcohol, whisky elements, plums, and a bit of vanilla. The flavors work well together as part of the complexity of this particular brew. It feels moderate on the heavy side with a fair amount of alcohol warming. It a complex bitter-sweet finish.
3.8 Refrigerated bottle poured into a glass. Hazy dark Amber. Aroma bourbon, medium bourbon, low carbonation, and no lacing. Taste is bourbon and dark malt.
3.4 Bottle. It poured a dark amber color with a tan head. The aroma was of grapes, raisins, oak, bread, malts and some toffee. The taste was similar to the aroma with more malts, dark fruits, vanilla with oak and booziness. Very tasty.
3.5 Caged and corked 750 mL. Rust colored with a big khaki head, bottle conditioned. Whiskey, belgian yeast, cane sugar, banana bread, alcohol and nutmeg. Quite sweet with a dry spice finish. Heavier body with a soapy feel.
3.7 Pours a mahogany, with yeast debris, with a thin off-white head that disappears to nothing. Aroma is dark fruits, whiskey, Belgian yeast, and alcohol. Flavor is sweet dark fruits, whiskey, chocolate, booze, and some Belgian yeast notes. Very good.
3.4 Cloudy brown with purple hues little rimming beige; aroma is mild bourbony malt; flava is sweet with notes of caramel spice and cinnamon ; feels medium to thick slight fizz; finishes mildly spicy and tangy sweet
3.8 A grapey aroma of wine with hints of malt and rye whiskey. Pours a clear reddish brown colour. A smooth taste that belies the ABV, taste of whiskey with sweet malt notes. A creamy full bodied beer with a sweet port finish.
3.9 Poured from a bottle. Medium maroon color, no real head. Sweet malt with a grape aroma. Full body with a creamy sweet malt and whisky flavor and a full finish.
3.8 Bottle. Pours a dark brown. Aroma and taste are bourbon, brown sugar, and dark fruits.
2.7 Sampled from a bottle, I was confused how this beer was aged, the label on the bottle reads this beer was aged in Whiskey Barrels, the Commercial Description read aged in Bourbon Barrels, and the Weyerbacher website reads the beer was aged in Bourbon Barrels, not sure what is right… this ale had a opaque dark brown-red pour and gave a small off-white head of bubbles that quickly receded to a small ring and left a few little islands of bubbles, the nose had aromas of prune and date dark fruit, toasted bread, bread-malt sweetness and dark fruit sweetness that resembled dates, a little vanilla and bourbon liquor, the dark fruit and brown sugar sweetness was out front, the flavors were dark fruit with toasted bread, bourbon liquor, a little vanilla, and lots dark fruit and bread sweetness with a pepper like spice hit, the finish had a pronounced alcohol spice bite with a little malt trailing, the mouth feel was almost medium and felt a little flat, it was a bit syrupy on the lips, it was not creamy, it had little to soft carbonation, the nose had a good dark fruit but the sweetness was a bit big and sort of got in the way of enjoying the drink, the flavor was a simple dark fruit and a big punch of a spice bite that got in the way of enjoying the drink, the alcohol was a bit much, I would not recommend.
3.8 Bottle. Pours a cloudy reddish brown with medium frothy off white head that lasts. The aroma is brown sugar, yeast, bready malts. Medium mouth, boozy, plums, brown sugar, vanilla, oak, very sweet, really good.
4.2 Strong Belgian-inspired ale with creamy, stable, egg white head and hazy copper colour. Rich, sweetly perfumed bouquet of vanilla, whisky, Belgian chocolates, cashew nuts, gingerbread, honey, apple cake, port, liquorice, banana and wood. Sweet, refined onset of candied cherries, banana and vanilla, sugary but not sticky, caramelly and nutty malts, smooth but full body, soft carbonation, complex finish of citrussy hops but more aromatic than bitter, woody tannins and a great deal of warming, but not burning, brandy- and whisky-like alcohol. Very pleasant and refined sipper, but seems more a barley wine than a true quadrupel to me.
3.7 Lively and very fizzy pour that produces a small head that fades very fast. Nicely balanced aroma and flavor. Barrel aging is done just right, present but not dominant. Solid beer. Had heard this year’s batch might have been infected but mine was fine.
3.9 2015 edition. Poured from large quarked bottle into tulip. Poured with big fizzy head which disapeared lighting fast. Color is ruby amber. Semi sweet aroma with notes of cherries and rasins. Taste is lightly sweet up front with a touch of bitter near finish. Notes of dried fruit and bread with some oak near finish. Light presence of tanins. Carbonation is moderate. The taste of alcohol is present but not overwhelming. Beer is great overall. Barrel age character not as strong as expected but well done, not overdone. Have had quad twice and enjoyed. This was first try at blasphemy and I am not disappointed.
3.9 Aromat: wyraźne nuty alkoholowe typowe dla whisky z przyjemną wanilią na czele. W tle karmel, melanoidyny, cukier kandyzowany, wiśnie w czekoladzie. Mimo sporego alkoholu, bardzo przyjemnie. Barwa: czerwona (miedziana) względnie klarowna, choć z powodu lekkiego naruszenia butelki widoczne pływające drobinki. Piana ecru, drobno pęcherzykowa. Niewielka i niemal natychmiast zanikająca. Smak: słodycz, owoce (wiśnie), cukier, wanilia, lekka czekolada. Wyraźna nuta alkoholowa. Goryczka lekko zaznaczona, delikatna i krótka. Krągła do tęgiej pełnia, umiarkowane do niskiego wysycenie i wyraźnie alkoholowa, rozgrzewająca przełyk końcówka oraz oleista konsystencja.
3.1 Very complex and nuanced. Solid structure with a good balance. I was able to pick up on barrel characteristics but they weren’t overpowering. I would buy this again and maybe try and cellar it for a year or so just to see the changes.
3.1 Pours a light hazy light brown amber. Has a faint fruit aroma with prune and raisin. A strong wheat and even stronger malty fruit (prune and raisin) taste with oak. A strong dark fruit malt aftertaste.
3.8 Amber, bit hazy with almost no head. Sweet fruity aroma. Sour and sweet, and once again sweet (well balanced, but too much for me) taste. Hazelnut notes, fruitiness.
3.9 750ml bottle. Slightly hazy reddish brown shade. Head fades to a ring. Aroma is big on whiskey and toffee. Taste has toffee, cherry, raisin and brown sugar, with the barrel working nicely to tie it all together. Seems most similar to La Trappe Quadrupel. One of the best US quads I’ve had, even if it is missing that last rung of complexity.
2.9 750ml bottle. DArk amber pour. It has some vanilla notes and a tartness that is not quite infected but enough to take away from the barrel and the quad-like flavor.
