3.4 22 oz. bottle - thanks to springslicker for the trade; pours clear, dark amber with slight head; fruity aromas of mints, cloves and licorice; low carbonation; flavors on the spicy side, a little tart and almost like fruit juice; a little hot with some pumpkin, vegi spice; a little on the odd side
3.3 Bomber bonused from hopdog. Shared with my girlfriend who loves Weyerbacher and Pennsylvania. Pours orange/red with a thin head. Nose is sweet and spiced. Taste is syrupy sweet and boozy. Boozy even after 3 years. This is interesting, but I can’t say if its great or not, I haven’t had this before to compare. Its at this point like a syrupy potent warming sipper.
3.3 Thanks to SuzyGreenberg. Mint and clove aroma mix with roatsed malt in the taste. Minimal sweetness and a nice hit of alcohol that isn’t overwhelming at all. Strong bitterness to finish. Lots of spice/mint make this very interesting.
3.7 This 2005 vintage brew is courtesy of SuzyGreenberg. Pours orange to copper with slight haze and thin white head. It has a pungent aroma of roses, sweet cherries, sweet red apples, raisins, pepper and finishing with some heat. The taste is much the same with biting fruity sweetness up front from cherries and sugar coated apple wedges. It then bleeds into rose pedals, molasses and caramel. Wow, there is a lot going on here. It is both bold and smooth at the same time. Very nice stuff.
3.4 Pours copper with a thin white head. Smells of sweet malt, spicy, some dark fruit. Tastes of juniper, lots of spruce, spicey, a plethora of clove. Finishes sweet and spicy.
1.6 From a 12oz Bottle. Pours a hazy, caramel colored pour with a faint glimpse of off-white head. This has to be the most over-spiced beers I have ever tried, all homebrews included. The aroma abounds with peppermint, clove, menthol, cinnimon, and paint thinner, none of it pleasant and all of it overdone. Medium full bodied, lightly carbonated mouthfeel with a cloying sweetness. Not drinkable. Very alcoholic. Over spiced. Mint, pepper, and Vicks vapor rub. Lots of ginger in the finish. I could sit here all day and pick out specific spice sensations, but why bother, none of them are enjoyable. Alcohol presence is very pronounced. Overall, this tastes like a vodka spice potion.
3.2 22. Thanks, SuzyGreenberg! Cracked 08 and obviously this is an 05 release. Hazy medium amber; headless, laceless. Big menthol, juniper, and spruce nose. Still. Slightly oily. Menthol, juniper, spruce and some black licorice on the mid-palate. Long menthol finish. What a curious, odd little beer.
3.4 Clear copper body with a thin beige head. The smell is indescribably spicy - chamomile, lavender, clove, rum, raisin, snickerdoodles, and cinnamon. Cloyingly sweet taste that is very spicy, almost nose hair singingly hot. Pepper, cinnamon, clove, heather, tea, rum, jasmine, honey, and herbal notes. Phenomenally complex. 3 years in the bottle, and its still needs tons more time to calm down. This was a joy to drink, but a chore to finish.
3.7 From 2005 bottle courtesy of santoslhalper. Very aromatic. Spicy with orange peel and witchhazel, like a Ricola cough drop, maybe heather or chamomille. Raisin and rum, alcohol and banana. Vaporous. Coppery brown clear with some sediment. Thin off-white head. Medium-heavy watery body with medium-light carbonation. Big alcohol warming. Starts sweet with caramel malt and booze. Heather, lemongrass, orange peel and brown sugar. Still kind of hot. Finish is pretty sweet with decent spicyness. Tasty but heavy.
3.0 Transfering from tasting notes. Bottle. dark amber pour with a think head. Aroma is very rich and inviting. Taste of spices and some more spices. Pretty good for the winter time.
3.2 Bottle shared by jcb at the carolina crew gathering. Nose had a lot spices, some slight oxidation, sweet malts. Flavor is a hodgepodge of spices and kind of a mess, but I must admit, I was kind of a mess by this point in the night as well.
3.5 Thanks to Jason for sharing this at the Carolina gathering. Pours a bright red with a thin tan head. The nose is spicy, has some nutmeg, alcohol, sweet, cinammon, weird. The flavor is spicy, alcohol, very spicy, not terrible.
3.3 22oz originally purchased in 2005 at Cairo Liquors, D.C. My early sampling of this beer was, um, less than favorable. It was like sticky solvent, flavored nail polish remover, I don’t know what. But it has really started to emerge as a pleasant brew, I have to say. A nice full orange body, slightly cloudy at this point, but still with some liveliness and carbonation. Tons of spices in the nose, everything from spearmint to coriander and black pepper. There’s a balancing sweetness to the flavor, a good thing since there’s a ton of raw ginger in the taste too. Strange, unpredictable, but not at all unpleasant right now.
3.8 2005 Decadence. Cloudy, amber with little head. Caramel, honey, and spices (nutmeg, allspice) in the aroma. Big spicey flavors of clove, cardamom with honey sweetness, peppery hops with a lot of other stuff going on. Full sweet mouthfeel with a sweet honey finish with some spicey astringency. WOW.
3.1 Pours a very dark orange with minimal head. Cardamom is all over this aroma and flavor. Lots of pepper, and spices (nutmeg and allspice). Good for a winter warmer, but not that great for springtime.
3.6 I can’t believe I found a bottle of this stuff just last week. It was sitting at the bottom of my local six pack shop’s cooler untouched for three years. The lady sold it to me for only $2 because it was so old. I only felt a little guilty when I was sharing it with my buddies last night.. poured a deep reddish brown with a little bit of tan head on top. the smells was very much like blackstrap molasses, spicy and sweet, mixed with alcohol. The flavor was much the same. Complex and warming. Alcohol was readily apparent. a slow sipper but very nice.
3.1 (USA) This liquid refreshment is courtesy of AFI96, Thanks Waylo!!! This Ale has a Hazy brown color with a sm-tan head. The aroma i get from this is of apple cider / and spices !!! But the real kick is the strong rum / alcohol taste. At 13 % this brew will put most of our so called beer drinkers to rest............... lol
3.9 Pours a slightly cloudy yellow with some lacing. Aroma is very spicy & seasonally appropriate (sampled at Christmas beer-tasting party) sweet with strong notes of alcohol. Tastes of aniseed, pepper, hops, alcohol, nice and spicy! Good carbonation, slightly thin body. I really dig the spices in this beer, it has good balance to it, and a lovely warm finish. Thanks to Oakes for the taste!
4.1 2005 Vintage 3/11/2008: Weyerbacher Decadence (1995-2005) has an attractive golden honey orange color. It is slightly hazy and has a moderate level of visible carbonation. The initial head is small, ivory in color, and quickly fades away. The aroma is quite pronounced and is loaded with sweet malts, honey, spice (cinnamon and nutmeg), sweet orange peel, dark ripe fruit (dates, figs, etc.), caramel, and a just a tinge of alcohol in back. The flavor is mostly sweet and malty like an English barleywine with a subtle amount of additional flavors toward the finish including hints of citrus peel, spice (nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger). The alcohol is noticeable, but actually quite subdued for the whopping 13% that is reportedly contained in this beer. The alcohol is warming and balanced with the other flavors and overall barleywine characteristic of this beer. This beer has a medium-full body that is very smooth, yet slightly syrupy on the palate and a bit sticky on the lips. All in all this is an impressive spiced beer that exhibits wonderful balance and combination of flavors. It greatly surpasses my expectations and makes me wish I had more of it for another day! Wow, this is a big beer that could probably hold up for a decade or more in the bottle! 12 oz bottle () via trade in November 2006 with Sephiroth. Thanks Hans! Rating #219 for this beer...
3.5 22oz bottle. Ale brewed with honey, spices, and Natural Spices. Big aroma. Floral, herbal, Lavender. Aroma reminds me of walking into a Bath and Body Works... but without the sinus infection. Spicy flavors of cinnamon. Burbs taste of pumpkin pie. Finishes dry. 10FEB08
3.7 dark orange body with a bunch of yeast floating in it. The aroma is very interesting If has kind of an orange aroma with a bit of spice but the malt also comes through. The flavor is quite interesting as well, with quite a bit of malt with kind of a syrupy feel. There is also quite a bit of spice and
4.4 vintagecellars Hazy orange amber with a fizzy white head. Orang, honey, and sweet spice, cinnamon, and nutmeg aroma and taste. Quite good.
4.1 Muddy dark copper color...small head. Big aroma of malt and spices. Flavors of amber malt, brown sugar, rich Italian spices, celery salt, cinammon, ginger, honey, almond...no oxidation or phenols but this is from 05. Overall I loved this and heartily volunteered to drain the bottle...yumm!!
3.9 Bottled. Dark amber coloured. Unclear. Dense brownish head. Cloves, vanilla, ripe fruits, marcipan and light alcohol in the aroma. Flavour sweetish and fruity with spiced notes. Alchol notable. Quite smooth and balanced. Medium to full bodied. Spiced and fruity end with a tad of bitteness. Alchol very well hidden. The last brew from my trade with magnificent Ughsmash. Thanks friend, I enjoy every one of them.
3.3 Sampled December 2007 A carefully pour produces a light dusting, not quite covering, tanish colored, wispy froth. The beer is an amber color that shows a brilliantly clear, cranberry color when held up to the light. Interesting spice aromatics greet my nose as I take my first smell of the aroma. Earthy spice notes reminiscent of cardamom, nutmeg, clove and perhaps a touch of coriander mix with notes of honey, root beer and dr. pepper. The spiciness really amplifies the apparent sweetness of the aroma. The honey and spices sort of make this smell like some interesting, all natural spice-soda. The beer tastes sweet, especially as a sip moves across the tongue. The sweetness seems a bit like a spice laden honey, but the spice notes meld and mix to make me think of myrrh; very much a sort of perfume-like quality or even potpourri. The mix of honey and spice notes make me think of the ancient middle east. Spice derived turpenes play a big role here; the spices themselves have aged enough that I can’t quite pull out what was used, but there are notes reminiscent of cardamom, nutmeg, clove, orange zest and mace. The alcohol plays a subdued role here, but does provide a touch of warming in the finish. The beer is quite thick and feeling, though not really in a chewy malt sort of way; the honey notes and texture seem to keep this a bit lighter feeling than it might otherwise be. This is an interesting beer, it certainly could age for quite some time still without getting any worse and perhaps even significantly improving. I am not entirely sure what to think of it, but it is not the drain pour that I had feared (why else has it sat in the back of my fridge for the last two years?). this is still very spice driven in flavor, and with the sweetness I could even see this being served hot in a coffee mug on a cold Winters eve.
3.9 Hazy brown colour. Very spicy nose. Lots of cinnamon, nutmeg, alcohol and caramel notes. A little bit cidery, which is unfortunate. Light fruity finish. Nice brew, on the whole. I don’t think I got anywhere near sorting it all out but I liked what I did get out of it.
3.3 Deep copper with a light head and a touch of lacing. Bittering hops in the nose with a large hop profile. Spicy with caramel malts. Brown sugar comes around with the heat of the alcohol rearing up.
3.5 Very fragrant, pleasant to the nose - worth scenting again and again. Many deep carmel like spices but I tasted a lot of Kirsche. Low suds, flat finish.
3.5 Pours dark, semi-hazy amber. Array of spices in the nose. Some mulling spices, brown sugar, honey and rum. Similar flavor profile: malt, spice, and maybe some mead. Interesting, chewy palate.
2.7 OOOOF this is well over the top. It is smooth and rounded but still hits you like a bag of wet cement. I attempted to enjoy this over and entire footbal game. It did not change as it warmed. It was ferouciosly big and topheavy with malts and sweet caramel. Retired....as it should be. Begone! I hope the 12 is better than this critter.
