Weyerbacher Double Simcoe IPA

Weyerbacher Double Simcoe IPA

Fast on the heels of our fantasticly reformulated Hops Infusion, our brewers have picked up the gauntlet and brewed a Double IPA using exclusively Simcoe(R) Hops! This west coast Hops was created in 2000 by Select Botanicals, Inc. and carries a fantastic flavor profile abounding with citrusy-grapefruit, piney, resiny notes that pushes this Double IPA over the top. 9.0% ABV in the brew gives it a nice malt foundation as well. Draft and bottles, 12 oz. in PA, 22 oz. out of state (as we have no 6-packs),

3.5 12oz bottle. Pours orangish amber with off-white head. Aroma is Malt, Mango and papaya. Taste is sweet malty citrus pine and alcohol up front with a fruity mango/papaya alcohol warmth finish. Pretty good but a little too malty for my personal preferences.
3.9 A very nice IPA, feel balanced and bitter. Has a pretty great piney aroma, hints of citrus in the aftertaste. Tried at the Old Mattress Warehouse after Black Sabbath with Brian and Jess in 2016.
3.0 12 oz bottle. The pour is a deep ruby, mostly clear, with a thin coat of off white head and a little trace of soapy lace. The aroma is surprisingly bland. There is a little tropical fruit, and a hint of bitter resin, but it's just bland. Light malts on the back end. I'm believing this isn't going to be that great. The flavor is a little bitter up front with some resin, but it falls flat after that. A little maltiness pops up on the back end and it finishes a little sweet. It's pretty much bitter water up front and then malt water on the finish. It's pretty disappointing. The mouth feel is light and watery with minimal carbonation and a lingering bitterness that finishes a little sweet and off. No bueno.
3.6 Bottle at home while visiting Jacksonville. Pours a hazy pale brown/dark gold with a slightly off white head. Aroma is wet hop dankness with caramel and lemon. Medium body, medium carbonation. Piney resin, lemon, grapefruit, light trop stuff, wood, very light soapiness, a little toast... Nicely bitter for a dipa. Good.
3.9 Draft pour at Brotherhood of Thieves, Nantucket MA. Appearance is a hazy orange amber with a nice white head. Aroma is fruit, tangerines, grapefruit, caramel malt, and resin. Taste is very good, well balanced, fruits of orange, grapefruit, resin. Palate is full and sticky, good alcohol feel. Overall, its very easy to drink and quite potent. Two of these and you’d be doing real well.
3.7 Bottle. Pours a murky, sediment-heavy copper with a thick tan head. Aroma is sweet caramel and piney, bitter citrus hops. Flavor follows suit, with a strong semi-sweet malt foundation and plenty of piney hops. Pleasant, mild booziness. Solid, but I suspect it may have been better fresher - I noticed after purchase that it was bottled in April and consumed in December. Come on Oade’s, take the old shit off the shelf.
3.4 Botella del @Señor Lúpulo. Despacho de cervezas, Gijón 06/12/2015 Color ambar turbio, sabor frutal resinoso, final amargo y seco, cuerpo alto.
3.1 This double IPA poured a nice caramel colour with a huge light tan head. Scents include ripe fruit, malt, butane? and citrus. First swig was smooth and creamy. Malty smoothness with lots of hop on a nice malty base. A little caramel in there too... Finish is bitter with hops lingering...
3.9 Bottle from cantina della birra. Nice aroma and flavor of simcoe: piney resin and citrus. Well balanced double/imperial IPA
3.2 Cloudy light amber with orange tints. Aromas of pine, and a bit of citrus. Flavors of floral, pine and citrus. Highly bitter on the palate.
2.5 Draft - Light amber color. Only a slight better ness with a good amount of sweetness. Citrus flavors all around with hints of grapefruit sprinkled into the flavor profile. Have an alcohol taste on this 9% ABV. Average beer. For a imperial/double IPA has more sweetness than I would like on this style of beer.
3.7 Was very enjoyable. Distinct taste had me rolling it around my tongue before the swallow
3.7 Hazy dark amber color with lots of sediments and medium white head. Dank aroma, with earthy notes, tropical fruits, pine and citrus hints. Taste follows the aroma, very dank, with passionfruit, grapefruit, pine, citrus and a strong earthy and resiny background, followed by a big bitterness.
3.3 Served within a week of the best by date. Served from 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Aroma is hoppy with notes primarily of resin and floral. One and a half finger slightly off white head dissipated fairly quick. Leaves plenty of lacing. Beer is a hazy orange amber color. Taste is medium bitter with resin, floral and citrus notes. Lightly sweet finish with a lingering bitterness. Light to medium bodied beer with a fairly thin texture and average carbonation. Overall decent, enjoyable IPA. Simcoe hops are not my favorite variety of hops.
3.9 Aroma is hoppy, pine and floral dominate with a tropical fruit as well. Appearance is almost orange, white head, strange. Taste is delicious, pineapple with pine, a malt presence but that’s forgivable. Mouthfeel is somewhat crisp, yet decently thick for the style. Overall, it’s very good despite the weird color.
3.4 This is my first rating. Nice color and very citrus flavor. Nice aroma very good flavor. I really enjoy this beer
3.3 Aromat: grejpfruty, pomarańcze, podszyte igłami, tostami, trawą. W tle karmel, ciastka, alkohol. Początkowo przyjemny, ostatecznie nie powala. Barwa; pomarańczowa, głęboka, wyraźnie zmętniona, z wyraźnymi drobinkami chmielu. Piana w kolorze ecru, drobno pęcherzykowa, umiarkowanej wielkości i podobni trwała. Krągła pełnia, umiarkowane wysycenie i wyraźnie alkoholowy finisz. Zdecydowanie liczyłem na więcej.
3.8 Bottle at BBF LAb. Copper colour with off white head. Pine, fruity, pineapple aroma. Sweet, pine, fruity, pineapple, grape, caramel taste. Medium body.
4.0 Bottle 33cl / Botella 33cl. @ Cervezorama 2.0. A: Amber / Ambar. Hops, citrusy, fruity, slightly malty / Lupulo, citrico, afrutado, ligeramente a malta.
3.8 Copper color with a hop aroma that is not over powering. Pours with a nice off white head. Nice hoppy flavor, but not too bitter. It has a good amount of malt to balance out the taste. I did notice things floating around in the beer, almost like it had froze, but I do not notice any off flavors, nor did I notice any sediment in the bottom, so I do not believe this is the unfiltered version. It certainly does not taste like a 9% alcohol beer.
4.2 Date: May 2, 2015... Glassware: Maudite snifter... Occasion: to a promotion!... Appearance: sediment-laden, casually carbonated opaque orange-brown body; thick, rocky off-white head forms craters and smears In the backdrop--an intimidating, active presence... Aroma: powerful citrus, with the signature simcoe damp, cool basement aroma; not much in the way of malts... Palate: heavy, puckerish body; dense and pulpy; extremely long, resonating finish of warmth and strength--a beer to reckon with...Taste: robust yet respectful citrus; large pinecone and orange peel mesh with late hints of alcohol to produce a solid, full-flavored experience; astringency late dampens the flowery aroma and the experience a bit...Overall: a beer monstrously effective at what it intends to do--overpower with its West Coast hops hailstorm; not exactly balanced, and not exactly a problem--but as Weyerbachers go, a fitting beer in their portfolio...
3.8 Pretty solid IPA. Lots of citrus and good malt backbone. Some pine. Quite the bitter finish. Brown amber pour with decent head and lacing. Very hoppy. Bottle from Glen’s.
4.1 Big citrus and pine aroma, taste is very full a little different, but very nice beer, a little of balanced but still very nice
3.7 W aromacie dominują nuty leśno żywiczne, w tle słodkie nuty tropikalne i czerwonych owoców sugerujące że mamy do czynienia z poważnym zawodnikiem. I pijalne, niestety, nieźle ukryty alkohol.
3.5 Dark apricot, full of sediment and topped with a small, off-white foam, the head too heavy and wet to stick to the glass. The aroma is a thick pine, rich with citrus, and held aloft with a sweet malt backdrop; caramel with a bit of molasses in the flavor. The medium body is thick on my tongue, lightly carbed, but not as well as I could really enjoy. There could be so much more. I would enjoy this again, but wouldn’t be a favorite. And Simcoe is soooo good. I’m a bit disappointed.
3.0 Bunch of floaties (big) in my glass when i emptied the 12oz bottle...gross! After I filtered out, cloudy orangish glow with a fluffy white head. Faint aroma of citrus hops, and some caramel malts. Taste was malty, citrus, and very bitter. Alcohol was also noticeable. Did not enjoy this beer much. Would not recommend to others.
3.6 I’ve had this before many times and it’s always excellent. However, this time I may have gotten an older bottle as the hops don’t seem too fresh.
4.0 Pours a murky dark orange with limited white head, some sedimentation from bottle settled at bottom of glass. Resinous nose, fresh pine and grass with a hint of caramel sweetness. More malt taste than I expected, but hop flavors - moderate citrus, floral and pepper notes - come through rather nicely. Heavy mouthfeel with a syrupy consistency. Exudes booziness as it warms.
