Weyerbacher Fireside Ale

Weyerbacher Fireside Ale

This fantastic brew began its life as "Charlie", the third installment of the Brewer’s Select Series. It is now part of our seasonal lineup and will be released in the month of January. It is an intricate dark ale with a touch of smokiness. The rich malt flavor, crisp bitterness and smoke reach perfect equilibrium in this brew. At 7.5% abv, Fireside Ale will warm you up as the temperature drops.

3.5 Draft at the Bocktown tasting on 04/28/12. Smoke! Medium palate with a bitter smoke scent. The orange tinted nutty brown pour had a malty bready fronted taste, then the smoke came in - like a smoked cheese almost - delicious.
3.7 Pour out of 12 oz bottle, thanks to Aaron for the pour! Dark reddish brown pour with thin off white head, aroma has notes of nice smoke, chocolate hints of dark fruits, hints of slight sweet bacony notes. Taste is a mix of big smoky, chocolate, toffee, hints of biscuit, finishing fairly sweet but bitter. Nice.
3.9 Bottle @ Armin’s house. Thanks Baker! Dark brown orange appearance with a decent tan head. Somewhat meaty smoky, caramel, nice sweet malty aroma. Dark caramel malty, meaty moderately smoky, rich malty flavor. I like it!
3.2 Bottle. Dirty amber pour with a smaller off-whte head. Nose of tea and malt. Medium palate. Taste is tea, dark fruit, and maybe a hint of smokiness. Decent.
3.8 Pours a chestnut/dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is slightly roast with light coffee and mild smokiness. Flavor is roasty with mild nuttiness and subtle but noticeable smoke...tasty. mouthfeel is medium and silky with a roasty finish that has smoke and faint coffee.
3.4 12oz bottle. Thin khaki head, fading to minimal. Little head. Clear mahagony color. Shared with Andrew over spring break, who asked, "Is there bacon in this?" Nice, rich smoky malt aroma. Some savory, salty taste. Lighter, crisp carbonation, drier, smooth texture. Decent smoked ale, but not worth the $3.50 I paid for it at the Sarasota Whole Foods.
3.0 Clear mahogany color. Plenty of smoke in the aroma. Thin crisp astringent and smokey flavor. Feels highly attenuated. Quick finish.
3.6 (bottle). Caramel color Mild, malty with slight smokiness. Smooth palate.
3.1 Tree bark smell, and perhaps some gym socks, but the cleanliness of the glass is questionable. Dark tea colored, thin yellow head. Fig and dried leaves flavor, but dry. Faint smoke and rancid meat finish. Alcohol well concealed, velvety mouthfeel, medium body. Smoke was tastefully done, but the base beer wasn’t remarkable.
3.8 not smoky on the nose, but very malty. Initial taste hits you as quite smoky. Not sure if I could drink a full case, but is tasty, unique flavor. Smoke dissapates as you work more into it. not too heavy though
3.4 Poured dark brown, with a foamy white head. Aroma is biscuit with a hint of cinnamon. Taste is rye bread with a touch of caramel sweetness. Dry finish that lingered.
3.6 Bottle. Copper pour with a tall, foamy tan head. Aroma is sweet and smoky with caramel notes, malt, hints of fruit and smoked malt. Taste is smoked wood, toasted malt, caramel, fruit notes and faint hops. Body is medium with a strong, bubbly carbonation. Finishes with more smoked malt, toasted malt, burnt wood, caramel and fruit notes.
3.6 aroma, smokey deep maltness, color, medium warm body, lacing head, taste, some hop bitterness mingles nicey with the malt profile, finish is smokey, and crisp, overall, pretty good, not as smokey as I would like though.
3.3 Poured light brown with a thin khaki head. Sweet malty aroma with subtle smoke. Sweet flavor with a long sweet malt finish. Not enough smoke flavor. Rare miss from Weyerbacher.
3.1 Poured a cola color with very thin head. Very malty, little bittering with a slightly sour aftertaste as if it’s a Belgian yeast. After a few mouthfuls the sour taste begins to tail off and a crisper malt taste comes through, but I discerned no "smokiness".
4.5 The smoky dark goodness of this beer makes me one happy lady. It keeps my heart warm in the cold winter.
3.4 On tap at the Knick. Sweet plum and mild smoke with some barley and roasted grain. Light hop notes and a bit of Twizzlers. Dark coppery brown clear with thin head. Medium body with pretty vigorous carbonation. Start medium sweet with Twizzlers, roasted barely and smoke. Decent meaty-smoky notes, not overpowering but pleasant. Light acidity and smoky finish with sweet but bitter after.
3.5 Bottle at marmont steakhouse. Amber pour, light lacing. Heavy smoked aroma. Caramel malt, burnt hops. Decent but not my style.
3.4 Bottle:   Deep caramel, muddy hues, moderate frothy off-white head, spotty lacing.   Pale smoked malt nose, very slight cardboard and bandaid.   Malty, a little peat, but the cardboard persists.   Luckily no ashtray, but moreso that German smoked malt albeit very light.   Decent malt base, smooth, but not heavy.   Lingering smoked malts on the exit.   Light, not overly smoked, a little peat and campfire.   Its like a Scotch Ale without all the malts, thinner than that.   Decent.
3.4 Pours a dark caramel hue with a nice tan lasting head. Aroma of dark smoked caramel malts, some cacao, needs a bit more smokiness. Taste is smoked toasted caramel malts with some sweet bitter cacao, some dark fruit. Palate is med to full body with an oily texture and moderate carbonation. Finish is smokey roasted malts with some bitter cacao and a dark fruity notes. Aroma and flavor seem a bit weak for the style. Overall a good easy drinking brew.
3.4 Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint. Appearance: Medium brown that looks more mahogany in the light. Thin off-white head and almost no lacing. Aroma: English hops, cherry and other dark fruits. Fairly mild and only notice a hint of smoke. Taste: Malt driven, with caramel, cherry, and dark fruits. There is a light layer of smokiness enveloping everything, but this is certainly more malty and sweet than smoky. Finishes with some light bitterness from the spicy English hops. Palate: Moderate carbonation, medium body, semi-dry finish. Overall: Mostly comes across as a mild dark English Ale. Needs more body, more smoke, more complexity, more something.
4.1 Clear copper color, decent head retention. Aroma of caramel, nuts, roasted malts. Med-lite sweetness, lite bitter. Med body, creamy texture, ave carbonation. Subtle smoked wood flavor in the taste with caramel and hazelnut in there. Well done again Weyerbacher.
3.1 bottle from Chuck’s - pours dark, reddish brown with a reasonable, tannish head. fair amount of lacing on my tulip glass. Bacon, sweet yeast, smoke, woody toasted notes on the nose. light sweetness, heavy bitterness, that cooked vegetables/basement aromas you always wondered what that meant well...also with astringent aftertaste. Not digging this the way I wanted to. Interesting but not my thing.
2.0 Definitely not to my taste. Pours ruby tinged from bottle. Smells like unwashed feet. It tastes off somehow. Not a lot of hop or malt flavor. Every once in a while I get a slight spice note. Tastes like bacon fat. Finishes like shit. Nope!
3.3 Bottle pour ---> Tulip glass. The scent was instantly of bacon, rather malty and spicy as well. The taste was incredibly smoky and of citrus, with a great hoppy balance to keep it in check. The combination of smoke, malts and hops almost create a fantastic bacon flavor as well. This beer was a little strange but at the same time... perfect for a BBQ.
3.4 Bottle into tulip...the usual. The nose was pure smoked bacon. Almost an imitation smoke flavor. Some slight alcohol as well. Some chocolate malt and spice came through as it warmed up. The pour was like a mocha brown with a nice sized head and good lacing. Taste resembles the nose but some cherry/light fruit was in the mix too. Pretty good in my opinion.
3.1 Draft. Dark brown color, nice head that fades and rests on top.smells like nothin musch then a newcastle or something. Taste is faintly smokey with lots of malt crispness. Maybe it was too cold. Nothing great
3.3 Pours hazy light brown with a thin white head. Aroma is of hazy smoke and a touch of sweetness. Flavor is of caramel, molasses, and smoke with a slightly watery finish. Large amount of carbonation and light to medium bodied.
3.8 Poured a nice dark read with not much of a head. Had a light scent and taste of pine. Had a lingering bitterness, hid the 7.5% abv well.
3.4 Draft at RnH with Streets for the Weyerbacher event. This was like the 12th one so its all hazy. I remember the aroma being very light smoky notes and the flavor being smoky sweet malty notes.
