Weyerbacher Old Heathen

Weyerbacher Old Heathen

Formerly Weyerbacher Imperial Stout.
Rich, velvety and deliciously complex, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout is a truly distinctive winter warmer. We use seven types of malt and two varieties of hops to bring forth this big brew. Quite robust and roasty on the palate, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout has a wonderfully fruity nose and a moderately dry finish. The taste is highly complex- perhaps you’ll even discern notes of expresso or chocolate.

3.8 Bottle. Color dark brown with small head. Aroma malt, spicy, fruity, caramel. Taste sweet, spicy, caramel, liqourice.
3.9 Bottle 35,5cl / Botella 35,5cl. @ Cervezorama 2.0, Madrid, España A: Black / Negro. T/S: Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, sweet / Malta tostada, cafe, chocolate, dulce.
4.7 Cool light brown and creamy foam. It does not last as long after pouring, but leaving small islands of foam on top. It leaves beautiful lace on the side of the tube and has an incredible enticing aroma of hard roasted malt and chocolate. The taste is malty of the aforementioned hard roasted malt, but it also brings some coffee notes and dark bitter chocolate notes. Hop bitterness is gentle and leads to long finish. A little smoked character is finally in flavor nuances and it is an imperial stout that is incredibly delicious and very good.

Smak: średnia pełnia, przyjemna aksamitność, smak trochę płytki, kakao, gorzka czekolada, kawa, lekkie nuty palone oraz kwaskowe, delikatny alkohol. Wysycenie: średnie.
3.9 Pours an opaque black from the bottle with fluffy tan head that dissipates to leave moderate lace. Aroma of coffee roast and sweet chocolate, hint of soy. Taste follows, awesome dark roast and chocolate notes. Solid imperial stout with minimal booze.
3.8 Bottle at BBF LAb. Black colour with beige head. Roasted aroma. Roasted, chocolate and slightly fruity taste. Medium to full body.
3.4 35.5cl bottle, served in Snifter. Pours black with beige head. Aromas of sweet malts rather than dark ones, licorice and a slight touch of smoke. Taste is roasted malts, coffee and licorice. Moderate bitterness on the palate. Medium/full body, good carbonation. Not bad, just a little bit too sweet.
4.2 Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales, Asheville NC. Rich aroma of chocolate, coffee, and toasted marshmallow. Pleasant sweet and bitter taste with the same notes as in the aroma. Great.
3.5 somewhat smooth and somewhat thick. some wine in the flavor and a bit of anise or licorice. light cocoa or coffee.
4.3 Look - Nice black body and medium tan head with aggressive pour. Thick bubbled head. No lacing. Smell - Coffee. Chocolate. Malt. Caramel. Belgian? Taste - Malt. Chocolate. Caramel. Coffee. Dirty. Alcohol is prominent at the end. Feel - Creamy and heavy. Carbonation throughout but not a bomb. Overall - A good imperial stout with little over the top features. Can’t really complain with that.
3.7 4 oz. draft at the brewery in Easton, PA. Opaque black color with tan head. Aroma notes of roasted malt, cocoa, light coffee, smoke and faint dark fruitiness. Taste adds caramel, char, faint vanilla and earthy bitterness. Medium-heavy body, low-moderate carbonation, creamy, dry with bittersweet roast finish. Pretty solid, yet average, imperial stout. Great base for the bourbon barrel aging done later!
3.6 12 oz. poured into a goblet. Black, perhaps dark brown. Does not look viscous. Tan head that vanishes quickly to leave only a trace of carbonation. Roasty. Very roasty. Chocolate aroma, maybe coffee, but mostly roasted malt. Bitter right at the start. Some chocolate, some coffee. Mostly the same as the smell. Finishes with a roasty malt flavor. Thin for a big stout (not all that big, really). It finishes a bit dry. It could use a bit more body. Not much alcohol, but it’s only 8%, so I probably wouldn’t even notice it if it were prevalent. Kinda uninteresting, but well made.
3.7 Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Appearance is oil black with a two finger light brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, molasses. Taste is roasted and caramel malts and dark fruits. Palate is on the lighter side. Overall pretty good for the style.
3.8 Bottle from Bacchanalia, Cambridge. Purplish brown, flat, opaque. Chocolate, chimney smoke, hint of coffee. Yeah, the black olive is massive in the aroma. Sweet syrupy taste with a hint of Christmas pudding. Some bitter hop rounds off the finish. Light palate and short finish, but you can’t have it all.
2.7 Brown black. Minimal head. Fantastic aromas: coffee, Maggi sauce, soy sauce, black olive, chocolate, tobacco... very complex. Not very tasty. Thin and short-lingering. All it promises on the nose comes out as a lie in the mouth. True pity.
3.4 Never been a fan of Weyerbacher, their beers are always too sweet or massively heavy, this specimen was good but still not great .. Dark brown black .. Foam was impressive .. Dark malts, candu sugar, and ink .. Mild feel and a cloying finish .. A typical Weyerbacher beer, no subtlety .. . . A carb stone is neither stone nor carbohydrate..,
3.2 Pours an inky cool black with a slow-forming and fast-disappearing tan head. Aroma is chocolate malts and soy sauce. Taste is crisp, tangy and malty. Notes of roasted chocolate and coffee. Some lingering bitterness at the finish. Decent enough but not memorable.
4.0 Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, slightly sweet. Taste is a very full flavored, chocolate maltiness. Perfect balance between sweet and bitter. Slight sweet up front and slight bitter finish. Really a great stout.
3.7 Slightly licorice smell...good...taste is sour and flavorful very good ..goes down smooth...very low hops ..mmm
3.7 Dark black pour with brown head. Boozy fermentation with roast coffee aroma. Thinner than expected for an imperial stout. some roasted malt in the finish. Flavors of cocoa bitterness and some earthy hop, nice. Taste is more like a foreign stout than an imperial.
3.7 pours pitch black with a small brown head. Aroma is a sweetish chocolate malt. Some coffee notes. Taste is full rich malt. Some burnt toast. Some coffee. A mild bitter fades in and lingers through a fairly quick finish. A well balanced, quite enjoyable stout. Good beer!
3.5 Strong roasted malt presence. Subtle cola & caramel also there. Slight bitterness in the finish. Smooth feel in the mouth. A bit thin and slick. Not as complex as the top tier imperial stouts but a solid brew none the less.
3.9 Bottle at home. Pours black, nose is chocolate, coffee, roasted, taste is similar, light caramel, bitter.
4.5 Buonissima Imperial Stout. Aspetto come solito.
4.0 bottle @ Jungle Jim’s / Eastgate OH --- Opaque brown/black color, heavy rocky brown head, thick curtain of lace. Almost too viscous. Taste is toasted malt with hints of chocolate and coffee that moves with incredible smoothness through the palate to a mildly bittered finish, which is quite enough to balance. A brew with big flavor that has the ability to deliver the goods without becoming overpowering. Highly recommended.
2.5 Nothing special about this one. Malt, vanilla, light body, moderate carbonation. Would not buy again
3.3 Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. Aroma- Has a strong malt aroma with a chocolate backdrop. Appearance- A black colored beer with a tan head Taste- Has a strong malt flavor that I found mildly satisfying. Palate- This is a full bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Overall- Not a favorite of mine, but not a horrible beer
3.9 Very dark opaque pour with a small brown head. A bit thick in body and lightly carbonated. Flavor is coffee, caramel and a bit of prune. A nice hop bite finishes this one nicely. Oh so dark and oh so good.
