Weyerbacher Quad

Big and delicious, QUAD is an elegant dark ale. Rich with complexity and flavor, try savoring it with a fine dinner. You also might enjoy it as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to a dessert, but QUAD stands alone quite well. 3.5 Bottle from Total Wine, Gainesville. Pours murky reddish-brown with a small, soft beige head. Aroma of bubblegum, dark fruit, yeast. Flavor is plum, bubblegum, alcohol, black cherry, caramel. Good.
4.0 Muddy, brown color with little to no head. Rich aroma of malt , molasses, dark fruits and yeasts. Taste follows the aroma. Moderate sweetness, warming finish.
3.7 bottle at home ... dark coppeer .. thick tan head ... dark rich fruity malt nose .. soft sweet fruity malts .. soft toffee fruit .. rich sweet malts .. soft toffee fruit .. juicy fruit .. long soft berries .. light spice malt
4.1 Served on tap at Weyerbacher. Hazy plum red color with an off white head. Sweet plum raisin aroma. Plum raisin spice flavor. Heavy body. Nice balance and complexity.
4.5 Tap at brewery in easton with commonmac and rosskyle and samadouche. 12oz tulip pour. Really nice light plum color reminiscent of this style, small off white head. Dark fruit nose. Fruity plum taste with Belgian funk, very smooth. This is what this style is supposed to taste like. Excellent.
3.7 Pours a dirty brown tea color with a thin tan ring. Crisp tart aroma with notes of caramel, toffee, and vanilla. Smooth and flavorful with a full mouth feel and a nice warm finish. Masks the alcohol well. Leave a nice aftertaste.
3.9 12 oz. bottled 09/30/2015. Clear, deep copper with some spots of foam. Aroma is banana, walnut, bread, toffee and a touch of booze. Tastes of toffee, bread, lightly tart apple, clove, plum, cherry and wood. Medium-plus body is big and malty per the style, but has a nice drying finish that makes it pretty drinkable. Smooth low-medium carbonation is nice.
3.6 Pours a medium dark reddish amber color. Aromas of dark fruit, caramel, and some spice. Flavors are sour cherries, and some spice. Alcohol really dominates.
3.8 Bottle at NYC Craft beer festival. amber clear white head aroma matured grapes and sweet plum taste sweet litchie, plum. fresh
3.6 Pour is a muddy river water with a small white head. Aroma is a big dark fruit with a lot of raison and figs with some bron sugar and alcohol. Flavor is at first a huge sweetness. There is a ton of dark candi sugar here. Next I get a sugar covered plum with a healthy warming alcohol. This is way sweet but I do like the dark fruit that this beer has. Not a bad 12 oz bottle quad. Probably just needs more time to sit and let the sweetness subside.
3.6 Bottle at NYC Craft beer festival. Pours reddish amber. Taste and aroma of dried fruits, round mouthfeel.
3.8 A very pleasant quad, if a little too thin bodied. Bottle into a snifter, served a bit too cold out of the refrigerator, but I have the time to warm it up. Reddish brown color that is somewhat transparent, with a thin, quickly disappearing head. Aroma of alcohol and yeast, dark fruit and sugar and the flavor follows the aroma pretty well. Dark fruits and sweetness predominate with a pronounced malty roundness and alcohol heat. Just at a guess, and due to the high ABV, I would say that this brew has an overload of sugar overpowering the malts, and it has a negligible hop presence, standard for the style. I’m certainly enjoying the one I bought, but would probably find two a bit cloying.
3.6 Bottle from andersons east side. Nose is sweet but has a bite. Smooth upfront. Has quite a bite to it especially at first. Dark malts shine through. Aggressive but kills the taste buds early on. A man's beer and heavy.
3.9 Poured from bottle thanks Airforcehops nice clear amber brown pour with a thin tan head. Aromas of dark fruit caramel oak and yeast. Taste is rich caramel malt dark fruit spice belgian candy and alcohol. There is a slight lingering bitterness but damn it’s nice.
3.4 4oz draft at Spacebar. Clear amber with small frothy lite tan head. Predictable quad characteristics, with dark fruit, slight booze, caramel, candied sugar, yeast. OK, but just.
3.6 4 oz pour on draft at Spacebar. Clear brownish amber with beige head. Aromas of dark fruit, caramel, syrup. Tastes of dark fruit, caramel, medicinal cherry syrup, spices. Medium body with a dry finish. Alcohol is well masked but this is very rich and sweet.
3.6 Bottle. Pours brown with notes of red, hazy, almost no head. Aroma of cherry, plums, caramel, oak, yeast, hint of peach and spices. Taste of dark dried fruits, caramel, chocolate, raisins, brown sugar, cloves, yeast. Quite boozy even for a quad.
3.7 Deep amber color with a short lived fizzy of white head. Malty aroma with dark fruit present. Flavor is sweet dark fruits with a less then expected boozy finish for the abv. Body is full and slightly tacky, leaves a coating in mouth.
4.1 Pours a beautiful mahagony color with tan head. Aroma is rich malt, dark dried fruits, booziness, and Belgium yeast, cloves. Flavor is rich caramel malt, dark dried fruits, raisins, plums, candied sugar, a little bit of cherry. Finishes with dark fruits, sugar, alcohol vapors, and Belgium yeast. Didn’t go into this beer with high expections but this brew really blew me away. Really great for a quad made in the US. This beer is so under rated.
4.2 The beauty in this beer is both in its color (it pours a lovely shade of reddish brown) and in its smooth finish. The label says it’s brewed with raisins, and you can smell and taste the presence of raisins throughout. It’s a strong beer. It’s got just the faintest bitterness to it in its aftertaste, but it’s very smooth overall.
3.9 Good quad. From Wes, one of his favorites. Heavy, without trying to over-perform. 11.8 ABV
4.4 Aroma: Light and not overpowering. Light bananas and malt Appearance: Deep amber in color Taste: I think of creamy bananas Palate: creamy and smooth Overall: Weyerbacher Quad is one of my favorite finds so far. Very smooth and creamy, its big ABV will slip up on you because it is so easy to drink.
4.1 12 ounce bottle into chalice, bottled on 11/6/2015. Pours crystal clear deep ruby red/copper color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, plum, fig, cherry, date, apple, light banana, pepper, clove, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and compelxity of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, cherry, date, apple, light banana, pepper, clove, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy/peppery yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, cherry, date, apple, light banana, pepper, clove, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, fairly creamy/bready and slightly slick mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an excellent quadrupel style! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
3.4 Not a bad quad, but I found it to be a bit too sweet and malty for my liking. The complex body and flavors were certainly there, but perhaps too much sugar or some other sweet ingredient(s). The beer pours a cloudy and murky brown color with a small light brown head. There isn’t much lacing left around the glass. The nose is full of sweet notes like caramel, toffee, rye and yeast. The flavors are strong and full-bodied, with more caramel and toffee, along with a hint of light and prickly hops, alcohol, banana, clove and pepper.
3.6 Bottle. Pours opaque, red-russet color with off-white head. Raisin and caramel aroma. Raisins and plums with candied sugar and alcohol burn in the finish.
3.0 pours an orange amber with almost no head. Aroma is spicey with notes of cherry and a slight yeast funkiness. Flavor is very sweet with a decent amount of spice with slight notes of raisin and fig. Its just flat and lacks character. Medium body. Flat carbonation. Astringent finish. This is for the price just really disappointing. Buy yourself a Rochefort or an Abt12. The few bucks more are worth it.
3.8 12oz bottle thanks to stevoj 2001 vintage. Pours out a murky rust color with a ring of a head. Nose is very nice roast malt pit fruit toffee caramel sweetness this is nice. Taste is more of the sweetness pit fruit malts toffee and a nice end. Wow this still great after 15 years.
3.1 From NOTES. A: Fruity malts and some grass and yeast with a little bit of bittering hops and a dose of alcohol. A: Pours a red slight orange and about a 1/4 inch of light tan head T: Follows the nose with dark fruits and a bit of hop presence and some yeast and farmyness for spice, but surprisingly missing some complexity. M: Medium body with very little carbonation and is very hot from the alcohol O: A decent quad that is good tasting but really does not stand out for the style.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with white head. Raisin, dark fruit, caramel, slight cherry aromas. Plum, cherry, caramel, malty flavors. Solid quad, nothing spectactular.
3.7 Born on date of 11/18/2014, supposedly dead by date of 11/18/2019. This was poured into a chalice. The appearance was a ruddy red to brown color with transparent hues running around the bottom. A slim quarter finger’s white foamy head dissipated immediately. No lacing was left. The smell started off with a sweet caramel malt running into Belgian spices of light ginger, cinnamon, and clove. Cherry based sugar lightly shows up. The taste was moderately sweet and drawing in the spices to accompany and balance. A Belgian sweet and semi-spicy aftertaste leads into a quick sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a good sipping quality about it. Carbonated decently as a quad, spices tend to run along my tongue appropriately. Overall, I’d say this was a pretty good quad. It hits everything its supposed to, I’d have it again.
