Weyerbacher Slam Dunkel

Weyerbacher Slam Dunkel

Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldn’t live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Recipe by Chris Wilson, Head Brewer.

2.9 I am a big lover of German wheat beers, but this one is just too sweet. The originators do it better.
3.3 Nice nose. Cotton candy and banana. Mild carbonation, smooth mouth feel, strong banana, finishes smooth. Kinda silky.
3.5 Total Wine, Chantilly 12oz ($3): I have finally found this beer. For some reason this is hard to find... Pours a muddy brown with a quickly dissipating head that leaves barely any lacing. Aroma is bananarama, with wheat, and some spice. Taste is bubblegum, banana, and some roasted malts. Taste is quite smooth. Body is somewhat thicker than most wheat beers. Leaves some of the sugary stickiness in the aftertaste. Quite good.
3.4 Pours a dark amber brown with a small tan head. Smells like dark fruits and spice. Taste is rich with dark fruits, chocolate, spices and sweet malts. Med-full bodied. After taste is rich but a little short. Good brew. I can drink this again.
4.0 nothing special. not as good as their witbier. julie definetly does not like.
3.5 Draft. Dark cloudy reddish brown pour with a fizzy off-white head. Concentrated dark wheat flavors. Typical yeasty bready esters (banana, etc.) but condensed enough now to read as dried red fruit. Good mouth feel. Creamy wheat body mixed with syrupy red malt. Certainly a fuller denser flavor than any other Dunkel I can call to mind, but still seems like a shotgun wedding of styles and flavors.
3.3 On tap 8 oz. pour at Adega Wine Cellar & Cafe in Silver Spring, MD. Hazy muddy, dark caramel brown with nice, fine, light tan head and very good lacing. Aroma of bananas, bread, wheat, dark fruits and yeast. Taste is a little sweet and a little tart with flavors of caramel, bready malt, yeast and bananas. Medium/light body and high carbonation. Spritzy mouthfeel.
3.8 This is definitely a "Big Boy" wheat beer. Love the chocolate/cocoa nibs appeal. For a 7% brew, the wheat creaminess attempts to balance the booze. Highly Reccomend!
3.9 Pours a cloudy brownish amber with medium off white head. Aroma and Taste is very fruity, sweet malt, sime banana notes, yeast with some hops bitterness. Palate is a medium body with a slightly thick and sticky mouthfeel and good carbonation. Finish is sweet malt, yeast, fruity with some banana notes and some bitterness on the end for balance. There are some notes of dark fruit, dates, raisins ans some light toasted malt as it warms up at the end. Overall a very good, tasty and enjoyable brew, very nice indeed.
3.0 Ruddy brown colored beer with an off-white head. Aromas are a bit rancid, of foul water, and rotten fruit. The taste is much better than the smell. Tastes of toffee, sweet caramel, sweet malts, some banana notes, and finishes on a bit of candy sugar. A bit cloying, sweet, dark fruit finish. Not bad, but not great.
3.4 Bottle. Pours brown with a tan head, good retention/some lace. Aroma of banana, clove, toast, dark fruit, wheat. Taste is banana, wheat, chocolate, light licorice, earth. Palate is soft, creamy, average carbonation. Refreshing.
3.6 I’m starting to like this style of beer. The pour reveals a cloudy brown body with a thin and creamy head. Aromas are floral hops, sulfur, clove and a very delicate hint of vanilla. The mouth feel was sticky and almost thick - full of banana, dried citrus and lightly roasted malts. Finishes well with a lingering hop bitterness followed by soft toffee notes.
3.6 (bottle). A beautiful dark brown and unfiltered complexion with creamy white head. Lots of dried fruit in flavor. Not my favorite style beer but well done
4.2 Gorgeous appearance. Murky red with an off-white head, looks like apple cider. Aroma of lemon, wheat, grass and light hops. Taste is lemon, yeast, grass and earthy hops. Light body with a sticky palate and a tangy finish.
3.5 Poura an opaque chectnut color with a medium tan head. Aroma is yeasty and fruity with mild clovey and bubblegum notes...just a bit wheaty. Flavor has malty sweetness...earthy with some fig and wheaty notes...a bit candi sugary. Mouthfeel is full and the finish is earthy and yeasty with light bitterness.
4.1 Probably the best dark wheat beer I’ve had. The appearance is grainy due to being unfiltered, which is a bit off-putting, but the flavor profile blows up in your mouth and make it happy.
3.6 Pours reddish brown with small head. Aroma is banana, caramel and toast. Taste is sweet and spicy. Thin mouth feel with a light and almost airy texture. Very easy to drink as it is delicious.
2.9 NCAA 2012 Aroma - Smells like a wheat beer... Appearance - Hazy medium brown Taste - Wheaty Palate - Harsh finish Overall - Timing is probably bad for this beer...but not my style. and it seems particularly poor with this timing
5.0 Heavenly mixture of malts. This beer packs a punch wit a phenomenal after taste
2.9 Dark brown colour and unclear. Has an off-white head, mostly diminishing. Aroma has clear acidic notes, faint yeasty laqurice. Flavor is sweet, fatty, creamy, moderate bitter finish. Light acidic. Dry, creamy texture and lively carboantion.
3.2 caramel, bread, cereal, nuts, amber, hazy, light brown foam, light sweetness, lightly bitter, light body, creamy, soft carbonation, long finish,
3.4 Bottle fron Vinens Verden. Medium head with short duration. Color is brown. Aroma and taste are rich dark dried fruits, nuts, caramel and hops. Quite sweet.
3.5 12 ounce bottle thanks to Dan. Pours a cloudy, really very murky, brown color with a small beige head. A sweet nose of bananas, some caramel and toffee. The flavor is a rich Dunkel with plenty of banana and spices, some sweet brown sugar and earthiness. Quite raw and tasty.
4.2 Bottle @ Dan’s. Somewhat hazy, orangish brown appearance with an off white head. Rich chocolate (german chocolate?), rich toffee aroma. Quite sweet, coconut, toffee, great dessert beer.
4.0 Bottle. Cloudy copper with foamy light tan head. Sweet malty wheat aroma with some banana / clove released in the mouth. Carbonation is moderate to high. Very enjoyable beer all around.
3.4 Bottle. Brown colour with a beige head. aroma is wheat, caramel, alcohol, orange. Flavour is wheat, caramel, alcohol, orange, malt, hop. Nice beer.
3.4 Bottle:   Dark caramel, very murky and dirty, small fizzy head, dies quickly.   Charred banana, good amount of clove, pale roasted wheat malts.   Good amount of banana and clove on the tongue.   Also has a slight fruitiness, the dark pitted variety.   A little fizzy on the tongue.   Heavy on the cloves.   Somewhat reminds me of those Indian cigarettes.   Moderate body and mouthfeel, not as heavy as I would have thought but more so bubbley.   Finishes fairly wheaty.   Has a charred wood sort of wheaty aspect.   Touch of tartness on the backside.   Might be a little over the hill, but still tasty.
3.5 Bottle, bought @ Kihoskh, Cph. Clear dark red with a firm, stayin, creamy, beige head. Aroma is sweet, apples, banana, peach, caramel, sweet chocolate, light cola. Highish carbonation, fine creamy and light dry mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet at first, banana, chocolate, light red apple, some dusty cocoa. A soft sweet liqourice note as well. Lingering sweetness with a soft grainy bitterness and warming edge.
3.6 Bottle. Dark brown / blackish beer with a strongish head. The aroma is very malty and roasted, and the flavour is malty and yeasty with a bitter and spiced finish on the throat. Overall a nice strong dunkel weizen beer.
3.2 Bottle. Frothy off-white good mostly deminishing head. Red-amber colour. Moderate malty and hoppy aroma. Very week hefe-notes. Moderate bitter flavor. Very roasted. Almost no fruity esters. Average moderate bitter finish. Creamy palate.
