Weyerbacher Unfiltered Double Simcoe IPA

Weyerbacher Unfiltered Double Simcoe IPA

In 750ml corked ’n’ caged bottles this will be and unfiltered, fully bottle conditioned version of the super popular Double Simcoe. Expect Cask taste in a bottle, with more pronounced hoppy flavor and aroma due to being unfiltered. Also, carbonation will be a bit higher as is usual in our cork n cage series in keeping with tradition. It all comes together to form a uniquely great experience for hopheads.

3.4 bottle at jans ... copper ... thin lacing ... soft sweet woody... little cheesy nose... soft sweet floral orange ... juicy oily fruits ... soft floral fruits ... zezty oily fruits ... soft foral hops.
4.5 Simply a bold punch of hops with enough body to give you something to enjoy. The unfiltered version is also a real treat.
3.5 Very good although I think I like the unfiltered version better. Dark orange with decent head, thick and hazy, looks good. Aromas of pine, bread and some citrus. The hops are dominant and, coupled with the fairly high carbonation, a little harsh. Still, pretty well balanced with a hearty breadiness and sweet malt. Drank better the second day when the carbonation dropped.
4.0 Bottle thanks to Bruce. Pours a cloudy orange with medium frothy off white head leaving spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is strong pine and floral hops. Medium mouthfeel with strong dry hop and light bitterness. A very good IIPA from Weyerbacher.
3.8 2013 bottle to snifter. Pours a light copper color with an off white head. Aroma is tropical fruit, yeast, malt and a some floral hops. Taste follows the smell with only a little bitterness and a sweetness that is caramel and grapefruit. A slight funk to the whole thing that someone described as a cheesy taste and that sounds about right to me. Medium, highly carbonated mouthfeel.
3.7 A hazy light copper with good head and lacing. Aroma of tropical fruit and caramel malt with bready yeast. Taste follows aroma with sweet malt and floral hops with a yeast adding a nice bread flavor in finish. Mouthfeel is medium/full with a crisp carbonation. Nice IPA that has a nice yeast component that is a bit different.
3.7 Light copper color with a finger of white head, murky unfiltered. Floral hop sweetness smell with some funky notes that I can't peg, maybe some kind of vegetables. Taste is pretty tame on the bitter, pretty carbonated, yeasty sweetness with some cheese like funk and maybe some grapefruit. Overall interesting, I don't like the bit of funk in there.
3.0 Pours a dark orange with a large off white head. Smells hoppy, piney and of oranges. Heavy body for an IPA and plenty of carbonation. Has a lot of piny hop taste with less noticeable citris elements. The hops have a strong bitter taste I however don’t like the taste this one leaves in my mouth.
4.0 Bomber. Pours a deep rich burnt orange in color. Huge pillowy tan head that lasts all the way down. The aromas are intense citrus pine hops. Flavor is a blast of piney grapefruit hops... must be the Simcoe hops! The caramel malt balances well in this one; not too sweet. A touch of alcohol in the finish. Plenty of sediment in this one; it is unfiltered afterall. Full bodied and well carbonated. Absolutely loving this beer tonight! .... and a week later too!
3.7 Corked bottle; courtesy of madsberg Cloudy amber color, with big frothy head. Strong aroma, fruity hops in the front, bitter oranges, and then some cheesy yeast. Malt flavor, some caramel, too much yeast; strong bitterness, but also final astringency from the yeast. Powerful but too rough.
3.5 750 bottle from 2012 Winter Secret Santa. Hazy and muddy. Not a big hop presence. Slightly malty and sweet. Pleasant. New or aged bottle?
3.6 Bottle. Pours a nice hazy amber color. Lots of carbonation, with a thick white head. Piney, slightly floral aroma. Tastes much as it smells, very piney with a touch of earthiness. Goes down smooth, with a touch of bitterness and dryness in the finish, with some alcohol warmth. Not nearly as hoppy as I might have expected initially, though the flavor builds up. Pretty good brew, especially for a single hop type.
2.6 Visible sediment in a very hazy pour. This beer had strong hops, but was not very smooth. Strong pine aftertaste.
3.5 Pours cloudy copper with a thick foamy head and thick lacing. Aroma of pine. Initial flavor is hop heavy, but did not develop as much as expected. Lingering aftertaste of light bitter hops.
3.7 Bottle. Pours hazy copper with a large white head. The aroma is full of floral notes with some earthy notes. The taste is bitter with an orange citrus kick before a dry finish
2.1 Cloudy golden redish. Thick head. Sweet aroma with some citrus and yeast. Very malty and slight citrus. Yeasty warm aftertaste. Not very hoppy flavor. Bitter finish with alcohol warmth.
4.1 This is a unique brew! They are right the first sip is full of bubbles. Lots of carbonation in this one (it dies down as the beer sits, thank god!) Heavy resin & citrus in the aromatics. Taste (after the carbonation) has a slightly botanic bitterness that gets stronger but quickly tappers off into a rolling sweetness. I don’t pick out any real particular tastes but the ones I do are an acetic/vinegary orange + pine herbalness... Kind of weird, lots of "resin" and citrus. Palate is thick and lively. Overall, I like and would love to try the filtered version!
4.0 750 mL bottle. Hazy orange-gold with a small white head. Nothing special to look at. The aroma improves the experience, bringing a pineapple fruitiness along with citrus (grapefruit) and caramel. The flavour is where this one shines, carrying over all of the aspects of the aroma, and filling them out. A little sweet. Full body. Light carbonation. This would be an interesting one with which to do a vertical.
3.4 Bottle. Hazy amber color. Beige head with lacing. Quite a lot of visible yeast (?) at the bottom of glass. Strong aroma of fruity hops. Slightly sour taste of hops. Bitter finish.
3.7 Botella. Gracias a yespr. Deep golden amber colour. Pleasant sweet fruity hoppy citrus aroma. Good mouthfeel. Flavour: Fruity citrus hoppy, piney like, sweet, very bitter, dry, lovely.
4.6 This is a great IPA. A couple of friends gifted this to me, so I only have one bottle of it but I am certainly going to fix that soon. The pour is lively with a brassy tint and a decent head. The aroma is the first standout property that you notice - the aroma has all the usual spice and fruit tones, but also has a ...zing that makes you want to get to the drinking part real quick. The initial taste cinches the proposition. Hops and more hops. No beer has a better hop taste than this. The taste mellows on your tongue a bit after the initial tartness of the hops, but retains a decent roundness, but nothing worth putting off the next sip for. And that’s my single complaint with this beer - the finish. The finish is weaker than I expected for a beer that comes on so strong from the beginning. Overall, one of the best beers I’ve ever had.
2.9 A-- Poured a light cola color and settled a dark amber ruby color. Nice look to this. One finger light tan head. Helhd up extremely well. A good few minutes at half a finger and the rest of the time a thick film/ collar. One good ring of lacing on the glass. S-- Pungent, yet crisp and lively. Pungent grapefruit, orange and pine. Like walking through a Pine forest after rain. Good malt backbone to this. T-- Lots of carmel covered orange and grapefruit. Slightly slick and sweet. Good amount of bitterness to this. Has some barleywine tones to this. M-- Burnt toffee with orange medicinal qualities. Low carbonation, oily, and orange cough syrup medicinal. Hard orange/grapefruit medicinal finish with burnt toffee. O-- Good looking, good nose, and good taste to start. Then it got real medicinal. Decent enough for one, maybe two. Stick with the West Coast DIPA’s
3.9 Bottle at yespr. Hazy orange coloured with a small off-white head. Sweet and fruity aroma of hops, citrus and grapefruits. Sweet and fruity flavour of caramel, hops, citrus and grapefruits. Dry hoppy finish.

3.6 Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of madsberg. Pours a cloudy and almost opaque amber with a creamy off-white head. Very fresh and intense aroma hops up front. Rich body, sweet and caramellish, almost sticky with heavy juicy citrusy hops. Bitter, herbal finish - but not overly bitter. 200812
2.9 Bottled/ An unclear amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and staw.
4.1 Bottled. Huge thx to SS GT2 for this. . Amber coloured. Unclear. Dense beige head. Aroma of herbs, flowers, caramel, spice. Flavour of caramel, herbs, flowers, light pine, spice. Medium to full bodied. Ends on a heavy herbal bitterness. Phantastico.
4.0 75 cl bottle. Pours cloudy orange with a huge white head. Fruity, citric and grapefruity. Bitter and smooth fruity hoppy. Crisp hoppy, mfrapefruity and peachy. Smooth fruity and crisp hoppy finish.
3.7 Pours a hazy brownish copper color with big off white head that laces out nicely. Big hop presence all around; pine, grapefruit, and citrus rind with good doses of bitterness and round earthy caramel flavors to help balance everything out. Not to sticky on the finish... great beer for the money !
