White Hag Black Boar

White Hag Black Boar

Imperial Oatmeal Stout

A fierce and powerful creature was the Black Boar. This huge beast played a massive role in shaping ancient Irish history. Famously the Black Boar killed, and was killed by Diarmuid the warrior, while he answered the challenge of his archrival Fionn MacCumhail on the mountain of Ben Bulben in County Sligo. The Black Boar has come to represent resilience. Fitting then that this black, silky Imperial Stout should carry the name of one of ancient Ireland's most notorious icons.

Description:
An intensely flavoured, big, dark ale. Roasty and bittersweet, with a noticeable alcohol presence. Dark fruit flavours meld with roasted coffee and dark chocolate notes to create a very full-bodied, velvety, luscious texture.

Tasting Notes:
Rich and intensely complex flavours of dark chocolate, roasted malts, and robust coffee. Full-bodied, with a soft carbonation; finishing with a mellow alcohol warmth.

Ingredients:
Water, barley, hops, oatmeal & yeast.

3.9 330ml can via Beer52: Poured into a Gordon badged thistle shaped glass at home on 28th Mar 2021. Smooth tanned foam on top of a very dark brew, looked interesting and wholesome! Malty and Beefy (rather than Wild Boar or 'Porky') in both the nose and taste, some coffee and chocolate esters and flavours creep in, but this is meaty and not for any veggie types at all; because of that I liked it!
4.0 Beer 52 CyberFest 5. Tight tan head on a still black body. Boozy, oat & Christmas cake aroma. Full-bodied, smooth & cloying. Boozy, Christmas cake, raisin, berry & malt tastes.
3.9 330ml can from Monster and Beer, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, liqourice and boozy alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a rich, roasty, liqourice, molasses, chocolate, dry spicy, warm alcohol bitter palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Surprisingly awesome!
3.9 33cl can from hopt.it. Pours black, with very limited brown foam, very fine. Aroma is rich, with chocolate, molasses, caramel, vanilla. Body is dense, like carbonation. Nice stickiness. Taste is medium-high sweet, with good roasty bitterness. Final is long, sweet and chocolate.
3.9 Creamy lightbrown good mostly lasting head. Black colour. Heavy malty and moderate hoppy aroma. Heavy bitter flavor. Strong molase notes. Moderate bitter average finish. Creamy palate,
4.0 330ml can at home. Can’t believe I haven’t rate this yet. Pours inky oily black with a thin brown head. Nose is molasses, roasted coffee, dark chocolate. Smooth flavour of dark chocolate, vanilla, dark fruit. Smooth oily finish.
4.2 Can from Honest Brew online in a Mystery box. Classic black and tan with a nice head. Stone fruit, tamarind and molasses on the nose. A great impy stout with plant of dry character, chocolate, coffee, burnt caramel etc etc. Earlier Rating: 2/13/2018 Total Score: 4.6 The star of my 4 tasters at BrewDog, Brighton. A classic Black and Tan stout appearance. The aroma is vanilla, malt and licorice. A very nice stout, thick and malty with hints of oaky, roasty , smoky whiskey.
4.2 Dark in colour, good head and a very strong bourbon/sweet aroma. Smooth sweet taste and luxurious finish.
4.4 Can, 10.2%. The aroma is dusty, vinous. Black colour. Dark brown colour. The flavour is sweet and spicy, has a good oily mouthfeel. Very sweet, but well balanced by the alcohol.
4.2 330ml can (beerdome.nl) (8:5:8:4:17=4.2) Basically black, large tight persistent tan head. Nice rich roasty malty aroma, some dark berries and esters, touch of banana even, nice to see some ale yeast doing a bit of artwork with the brew, in comparison to so many dumbed-down emasculated sugary impies. Full palate, smooth, gentle carbonation. Lovely deep roasty taste, quite burnt but not ashy, and with a lovely associated bitter bite, pleasantly sweet, but not overly so, and again the esters are there as a retronasal reminder of the banana in the aroma. A delightful one to fill your mouth with, as every surface can appreciate the wonders of what's within, and the more you cover the more it pays back with its lovely dry finish, drying enough that you're drawn to take another draught. To say this is an excellent sipper is a flat out lie - this is so good, and covers the alcohol so well, I simply cannot sip it. Magnificent brew. No adjuncts, all beer, craft tossers could - should - learn a lot from this. Wow!
3.9 Thick black pour. Sweet, roasted malt tones with a thick creamy mouthfeel. Nice one!!
3.8 Can.Pitch black colour with no head.Aroma of licorice and tart berries oily and roasted with good full body nice warming finish.
3.8 Black beer, brown head. Smells of malt and liquorice. Quite a solid liquorice hit in the flavour too, along with a stack of malt, some chocolate and coffee and the rich smoothness you'd expect from an oatmeal stout. The liquorice might be a bit too forward for me but it's got a decent malty finish to balance so it just stays on the right side of the line. very decent.
3.4 On tap at Carlsens Kvarter. Black with a lasting off-white head. Roasted aroma with licorice, chocolate and coffee. Sweet roasted flavour with licorice and sugar
3.9 Tap @ Det skæve hjørne. Pours Black with bubbles on tap. Roast , ashes, soy and coffee. Smooth and full bodied. Tasty sipper
3.9 Draught at Carlsens Kvarter. Black coloured with a medium sized beige head. Roasted aroma of caramel, chocolate and dried fruits. Roasted flavour of caramel, chocolate, dried fruits and alcohol. Roasted finish.
3.9 33cl Can @ Beyond Beer, Eimsbuttel, Germany. Black colour with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, cocoa, coffee, dried fruits. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, prunes, licorice, vanilla. Full body, soft carbonation.
3.5 Presa alla spina, odore forte e penetrante. Colore veramente scuro, molto invitante.
4.0 Tap at Indewildeman, 10th October 19. Pours black as a boar. Aroma is liquorice, roasted malts, cocoa, ash. Taste is bitter, liquorice, ashy, dark roasted malt, slight syrup, more bitterness. Really good solid Imperial Stout.
1.4 Zurige smaak. Ruikt ook niet lekker. Oatmeal. Gootsteen.
3.7 Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and dark fruits. Sweet taste that ends up being slightly more dry and a little bitter. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonated. A very nice Impy. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
3.7 Black. Brown head, two fingers, good retention. Difficult to see the carbonation through the darkness. Creamy texture. Aroma is liquorice, dried fruits, liquor, caramel, molasses, ashy undertones. At first, more roasted with burnt traces and tar. Taste is lots of sticky caramel, black chocolate, liquorice, dried fruits, molasses, soy sauce, roasted malts, ashy undertones. Sweet, maybe a bit cloying if you don't like sweet Stouts. Soft bitterness at the end. Alcohol well integrated. Complex Imperial Stout with multiple layers and no adjuncts. Missed one of these.
