Wicked Weed Genesis Blonde Sour

Wicked Weed Genesis Blonde Sour

This ale is our first venture into barrel aged American wild ales. A blond Saison base similar to that of Saison I, fermented on our proprietary Wicked Wild strain. After fermentation we moved the beer into Petite Verdot Barrels from Rock House Vineyards and added mango, papaya and guava where it sat for 6 months. This ale is tart and tropical with notes of musty hay and citrus. The tartness of this sour is moderate and the dry fruityness makes this beer a great palate cleanser and pairs well with delicate dishes.

Updated: Aged in white wine barrels with 250 lbs per batch of papaya, mango, pineapple and guava. The beer is blended from barrels ranging 5-12 months.

4.1 Bottle: Thanks Andrew: Served in a Chouffe glass. Light and thin white head/lacing that disappears quick. Hazy yellow body. Nose is fruity, expected a little bit more fruit, but it’s mixed very well with the funkyness almost dominating shortly followed by the fruit. Flavour is balanced tart with some funk/wild bacterias and more fruityness. Even little earthy and crispy wood tones seem to suface gently. Aftertaste is earthy fruit tones with light funky and wild yeast tones. Low to medium carbo, tart mouthfeel, good medium bodied! Maybe not the most exciting beer but it finds it’s balance and it’s refreshing. Good example of American sour!
4.1 Hazy golden color with a small, white head that left light lacing on the glass. Tropical fruits, citrus, vanilla, wood, acidic, sour finish.
3.9 Yellow with a thin head. Aroma is vinnegar, boozy cherries and lactic acid. Initial sip made me shake my face at the sourness but I fast adapted. Oaky, pineapple and salty. Didn’t get any of the other fruits but I did enjoy this.
3.9 On tap at Hops & Pie. Pale golden and slight hazy appearance. Aroma of tropical fruit, sour funk, light zesty hops, earthy yeast and light vinous notes. Similar flavor, tart, fruity and mildly sour with a lingering, light dry finish hinting at toasted oak. Light to medium body with a refreshing finish. Nice.
3.8 500ml from the Funkatorium. Pale yellow. Lots of sour citrius fruit in the aroma. Orange, mango, pineapple. Taste is fruit with medium funk and stron acidity to the flavor. Solid as always from the funkatorium.
3.7 Tap at the Funkatorium: gold pour, thin white head. aroma of floral, wine, citrus. tastes are earthy tart, tropical, woody. crisp and easy.
4.1 Slightly hazy yellow orange in color... Aroma of funk, citrus, tropical fruit, white wine, papaya... Flavor is white wine, tropical fruits, mangoes, papaya, funk, pineapple, passion fruit tartness on finish... Delicious
3.9 Hazy yellow. Thin to no head. Tart aroma. Big fruity medium Bodied taste no sweetness. Tart dry finish.
3.9 Tap at Monks, pours lightly hazy golden not much head or lace that sticks around. Tons of grape skin oaks, petit Verdot, guava and dank pineapple citrus. Acidity is balanced well which is the case with most of these wicked weeds. That’s pretty refreshing to see.
3.6 Lots of guava and some mango. Crisp grapefruit bretta. Golden pour with ok head and lacing. Tangy finish. Fruits I like. Tap at Funk brewery.
3.7 Bottle. Poured a yellow color with a white head. Fruity, white wine, funky, and citrus.
3.7 Bottle. Pours hazy gold with white head. Nose is champagney yeast, white grapes. funk. Tastes lively on the tongue with notes of white wine, hops, and a very dry palate. Like a dry champagne/wine hybrid.
3.9 500ml bottle. Tart aroma of tropical fruits including pineapple, mango and papaya as well as vinous white wine notes. Pours clear golden colored with a nearly non-existent white head that has no retention or lacing. Starts with a mixture of tart and sweetness from the various tropical fruit flavors as well as having a very lively mouthfeel. Finishes a bit tart with nice dry white wine flavor and a bit of oak as well. Nice first sour to try from these guys!
3.8 Golden color with a pineapple and citrus aroma. It is sour but not over the top. Some pineapple and white grapes. This is very similar to a dry white wine. Overall good flavors and tame.
3.4 Pale gold in appearance. White wine and tropical fruits. Taste and finish are tart.
3.8 The correct amount of sour and nose of sour. Tart but refreshing well done and tangy. Thin head.
3.8 Lightly hazy gold. Nose is quite floral with some tropical fruit (papaya mostly). Taste is lightly tart, with flavors of elderflower, and delicate tropical fruit. Delicate little beer.
4.0 375 mL bottle shared by Gus in line at 4 Elf. The pour is a bright gold color with a light ring of white head and a lovely soapy lace. The aroma is great. Sour fruit skins and a decent barrel character. There is some wood and earthiness. The flavor is good. Light fruits, heavy barrel. The fruits are good. The mouth feel is good. There is a good viscosity and a light carbonation with a lingeringly winey sour finish. Good!
4.3 wow..super excited to try my first offering from Wicked Weed and this doesn’t let down..just reading the label makes one happy a sour aged with tropical fruits on wine barrels..seems really hard to master but this is stellar..pours a golden color with slight head..small carbonation action..nose is massive tropical aromas with pineapple..mango all working nicely..interesting tang like citric quality intertwined with the vinous character from the barrel..combined with the complexity of the offering at the low 6.0 abv..and no wonder these guys have been garnering high praise for what they are doing..this is excellent from soup to nuts and makes me want to go visit the source for more..cheers
3.5 [Backlog] Bottle shared at Franks. Pours a bright golden body with soft white lacing. Mouthfeel is thin bodied with spicy carbonation prickling the palate; notes of dry yeast, bitter tropical fruits, not really juicy or tart - more peppery and spicy.
3.8 Bottle, thanks cavemanlawyer! Almost clear pale golden liquid with small, fast dissipating white head. Aroma of lemon, lactic acid, white wine, light wood, apples and light funk. Taste is dry and medium sour with notes of lemon, mineral, apple skin, white wine and light grain. Almost reminds me of mineraly champagne. Light to medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. A tiny bit boozy. Pretty nice.

Aroma: pretty fruity, sweet, funky, hint of cinnamon, stone fruits, some peaches. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sourish, brett, lemon juice, artificial, fruity touch. 3.4 Bottle. Pours clear golden, small fizzy white head, quick dissipation, some lacing. Aroma is a big up front burst of butterscotch, followed by some tropical fruit, caramel, oak. Flavor is there too - hella butterscotch, some fruitiness, pineapple note in particular, oaky tannins. Light residual sweetness, lightly tart. I am giving the benefit of the doubt here, but this is the butterscotchiest beer I have ever tried.
3.8 Bottle. Yellow colour with white head. Citric, fruity, tart arom .Citric, acidic, tart, fruity taste. Medium body.
3.6 April 30, 2015. Bottle at CBC pre-tasting. Shared by Theydon_Bois, thanks!. Hazy pale yellow with a small white head. Aroma is tart with lime zest, lemon, light fruity sweetness and mineral notes. Taste is dry, tart lemon and lime zest, light fruity sweetness. Dry tart finish, light bodied, average carbonation.
3.9 750 ml bottle courtesy of Theydon_Bois. Pours hazy pale golden with a small frothy white head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is fruity with crackers, lemon juice, lime juice, pineapple, peaches, star fruit, yoghurt, hay, dry soil, minerals and lemon zest. Taste is sour and fruity. Mouthfeel is dry, tart, mouthpuckering and light bodied. Finish is sour with crackers, lemon juice, lime juice, pineapple, peaches, yoghurt, hay, dry soil, minerals and lemon zest. Tasty simple citric-centered sour. Wouldn’t mind more depth though...
3.9 Light yellow color with a thin lacy head. Solid funky aroma. Sour notes are highlighted by the fruit additions.
