Wicked Weed Pernicious IPA

Wicked Weed Pernicious IPA

Pernicious is our flagship India Pale Ale boasting a silver medal at this year’s Great American Beer Festival. This massively dry-hopped ale has minimum malt complexity and a combination of juicy, tropical fruit-forward hops with heavy resinous American hops. Pernicious is the epitome of a West Coast IPA, made right here in the Southeast.

1.3 Somebody is really loving this beer, 98/100 & 3.92/4? Don't count on me for the numbers because I despise most IPA. Well, at first, this beer from a can, pours clear pale yellow with a smell of somewhat perfume IPA hops. Taste is what else but bitter, its your typical IPA but perhaps with a little more brite and a little less diesel? Its an IPA, what else can be said of such bitter bastards? Just asking. At least the alky level yields a slight calming effect on the finish. There you have it. OK for a tick but would not drink another; hey, it's IPA.
3.6 On tap in Savannah with Patty. I needed a fast IPA when I got thirsty while walking around town. Poured slightly hazy. Aromas of fruit and pine. Flavors of the fruit and pine and slight bitterness.
3.9 Can from Publix, Martinez. A cracking ipa that is lighter on the nose and palate than its abv suggests. Neck oil like.
3.5 Good. Gives me a headache?
3.5 Draft. Pours gold with a white head. Citric fruity hops, mild pithy notes, moderate bitterness, and a nice hoppy finish. Solid.
4.3 Great flavor
4.2 Can. Golden pour, slight haze, frothy head. Grapefruit on the nose. Grapefruit dominates, citrus hops. Some resin. Just enough tropical sweetness. This is a freaking solid IPA.
3.8 Clean malty base beer with a mix of tropical and piney hop aromas and flavors. Some malty sweetness to the finish. Clean balanced and flavorful ipa.
4.2 Very fruity light bountiful taste. Smooth finish with a thinner head. No bite like a classic IPA, lighter in flavor profile. Aroma was soft but eloquent
3.5 I poured it from the can into a plastic cup. It pours amber with a white head and lacing. The aroma is citrus, sugar, and hops. The taste is orange, marmalade, grapefruit, and bitter hops. There's a nice balance between the sweetness and the hops. It's smooth and has little carbonation. This is pretty good.
3.5 Draft. Slightly hazy golden beer with a cream head. Light grapefruit aroma. Summer fruit and light citrus flavor with light banana. Medium bodied. Good bitternss. Summer fruit and light citrus linger.
3.2 Can from a variety pack I picked up in Asheville on our honeymoon. I got to be honest 15 years ago if I would have tried this I would have been blown away.... But today it tastes like pretty much every other DIPA on the market.
3.3 12 oz. can, 7.3% ABV AROMA: Bitter with scents of pine, hops, resin, and grapefruit. APPEARANCE: Pours a clear, light gold, with a tightly frothy white head that dissipates slowly. There is minimal lacing. TASTE: Slightly sweet on the front-end and minimal bitterness on the back-end. Honestly, based off of the aroma, I was expecting something much more bitter than this. Which made for a pleasant surprise. Predominant flavors are grapefruit, pine, and hops. There is another flavor that is very subtle, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is that I'm tasting, but it's something in the citrus family (orange?, tangerine?). At any rate, it adds a nice "juicy" component! MOUTHFEEL: Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and slightly above-average carbonation. The finish is dry and slightly bitter. OVERALL: I got this in a sampler pack that showcases 4 different beers, and this is the third beer that I've tried from it. So far, this is my favorite. Mostly because it's not overly bitter, has a refreshing "juicy" quality to it, and has some good citrus flavor that's not overpowering. I'm not a huge IPA fan but I could see myself buying a six-pack of this several times a year.
4.2 Clear gold color pour with a long lasting head maintained with steady stream of carbonation bubbles. The hoppy aroma has floral notes. Moderately bitter. Very nice.
3.7 Hazy yellow with a large foamy white head. Lightly bitter with tropical fruit, pine and a faint earthiness. Long finish. Medium body. Pleasant
3.8 Aroma of pine and fresh citrus. Clear straw color with a white head. Sweet rich malt up front. Nice deep pine bitterness with grapefruit. Nice balance finish with an echo of pine and hops. Very good.
3.9 (Can) Clear yellow-orange body with a medium, white head. Piney hop and biscuit malt aroma. Light to medium body; little soft carbonation. Flavor is pine, grapefruit; biscuit malt; nicely balanced, clean and tasty; refreshing.
3.9 I had this at Halls Chophouse. Pours gold with a white head. Taste citrus, hoppy, juicy. I thought this was good. I would drink this again.
4.3 I dont know how i didn't review this before... its the perfect grape IPA. Nose is muted grape and grain... flavor is out the roof grape and lasting head. Yeah they sold out... but they are still making a full body enjoyable Modern IPA. The aroma says it all..
4.0 Gold pour. Thin foam. Medium carbonation. Even lace. Strong hop flavor wheat and earthy flavor. Wheat carbonated palate.
3.8 Poured from 12 oz. can. Upon opening, foam erupted from the can an spread a couple ounces of beer onto the countertop before I could pour lit quickly into a glass. Pernicious indeed! Hazy, bright gold with a 1-finger, billowy off-white head and very good lacing. Very dank aroma of pine, mango, hay and possibly citrus. Taste of dank mango, pine and hay. Medium body and medium carbonation. Unusual and pretty good. I’m not sure why they consider this a West Coast IPA.
3.7 Can. Pours a clear yellow gold with a white head that lasts throughout the beer and laces. Aroma has dank mango with some pine bite and a hint of sweet grains backing. Flavor is more pine forward with a bit of dank tropical fruits growing in the finish.
3.7 Straight hops, no discernible malt backbone. Resiny, some pine, grass. Noticeable orange peel. Quite good but also very filling.
3.9 Tons of fruit on the aroma, hop forward with a nice caramel malt backing, moderate bitterness on the finish. Nice dank resinous note in the mix. Really solid west coast style IPA.
5.0 Tastes of orange and nectarine in this hazy ipa. Very nice after a hot day on the golf course! Drank at Shipyard GC in Hilton Head.
2.9 Can. Pours light and golden with a nice airy head. This has a light citrusy air to it. It drinks with an uber-light mouthfeel, definitely delivering on the promised "minimum malt complexity," but I think this an unfortunate shortfall. (#7762, 8/2020)
3.5 7 week old pint can A: Bright pale gold pour with 1/2" of frothy white head, retaining very well with thick lace. S: Light scent of orange or tangerine citrus, pine and caramel. T: Bitter pine and pith featuring lemon or grapefruit citrus notes. Dry malty flavors of light wood and biscuit provide nice balance with minimal sweetness. M: Crisp feel and carbonation with a lightly resinous dry finish. O: Drinks light for its strength. Tasty and clean. Good all around.
4.1 Can. Moderate roasted grain for the malt, heavy pine resin for the hops, faint soap for the yeast, with green pineapple and nectarine in the background. Head is small, frothy, white with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is sparkling, slightly hazy, straw. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic, then the long finish is lightly sweet and acidic, and moderately bitter. Palate is medium, oily, with a lively carbonation and lightly astringent finish. Excellent, well balanced IPA. Not a palate wrecker but plenty of hops to keep you interested.
