Widmer Brothers Citra Blonde Summer Brew

Widmer Brothers Citra Blonde Summer Brew

Citra hops lend their name to this interpretation of a Golden Ale. But that’s not all they bring to the party. Their striking citrus aroma and thirst-quenching flavor are the perfect pairing for soft malt notes. Together they create a beer that’s full in flavor and uniquely refreshing.

3.3 Easy drinking wheat with a touch of orange. Not as thirst quenching as I would like it to be, but a nice easy summer drinker.
2.8 Smells pretty good. Lots of fine lemon, orange and wheat notes float up from the bottle. Less complex and distinguishing on the palate however. A little plain and not especially quenching.
2.9 Pours straw blonde, decent head that faded off quickly. Aroma is actually nice, sweet citrus notes and some breadiness. The taste isn’t nearly as wonderful. It doesn’t taste bad, just very bland. I’m actually surprised at how strong the aroma carries itself and yet tastes so bland. Drinkable summer beer on the porch with friends.
2.5 This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a decent pale hazy yellow to orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated rather quickly. The lacing was somewhat bubbly and didn’t last long at all. The smell had some citrus - like aspects to it but it didn’t really meld that well. The taste was mainly sweet but through the citrus but once again it didn’t really meld that well. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a pretty good sessionability about it. I’m pretty sure I could pound a sixer of this within a session. Overall, this was just a decent blonde ale that tried to do something different with the citrus aspect to it. I probably wouldn’t come back to this.
4.0 Tropical, tangerine fruity aroma and flavor, with light malt: Sweet, bready. The aroma is really nice.
3.5 Bottle. Pine, orange peel and light malt aroma. Bright yellow with small head. Sweet orange malt and moderately bitter pine/grapefruit peel flavor. A very nice beer.
2.7 bottle, blonde pour, light lemon notes, otherwise pretty blah and flavorless. moving on
2.9 Poured from draft at widmer brother brewery. Golden with white head. Taste like a bud light about now. Probably good
3.4 12oz bottle picked up at The Grapevine Pours slightly hazy golden with a small white head, some light lacing. Aroma fruity, oranges and light malts. Flavor is citrus, light malts, bready and lemon peel A decent summer ale.
2.5 Maybe a little dark for a blonde ale. Thin body, yeast, lemon, honey. Pleasant hop flavor but no resin. On the hoppy side but well balanced. Nice seasonal but nothing too special.
3.3 Citra blonde ale. Pretty much as the name implies, easy drinking blonde with nice citra aroma. Not for everyone but pretty tame drinkable beer.
4.7 Bottle. A- Lemons, mangoes, grapefruit, peaches, pineapple, wheat. A- Golden orange color, cloudy liquid, white head. T- Tropical fruits, citrus, wheat, slightly sweet, balanced. P- Light body, tart texture, average carbonation, smooth fruity finish. O- I love citra hops and this beer uses them perfectly. A very smooth and refreshing blonde ale. Widmer Brothers nailed it with this one.
2.7 Bottled: 06JUL11 A: Pours a blonde ale with brilliant clarity and a transient single finger of off white foam which falls to nearly no sheet of the same. No lace. S: Citra hops have lately become quite familiar to me, and they’re present here. They are quite subdued compared to my recent exposure, but they are well applied in their tropical tastiness. Otherwise some underlying grainy malts are dry in character. T: Lots of grain component, some hops are in here, but contribute little palate interaction. Grains are plain, unsweetened and raw tasting. A hint of flour. M: Medium on light body with sharp and persistent carbonation. Dry finish. O: The look and smell are nice, but the flavor is a substantial disappointment for me. One and done. Serving type: bottle 09-01-2011
3.0 12 ounce bottle from Red Hook/Kona/Widmer Brothers summer variety 12 pack purchased at Western Hills Kroger, tasted on September 20, 2013. Clear golden hue, nice fruity aroma with citrus and other fruit notes, medium fruity flavor with backround bitterness that’s a bit unpleasant. I don’t quite get the high ratings but it would be a dull board if we agreed on everything, would it not?
3.5 Poured from a 12 ounce bottle, thanks to Mike. Super Citra aroma, slight cat pee. Malty, grainy, vegetal, citrusy, some mango notes. A tasty blond ale.
2.8 bottle: pours a clear golden color with a nice fluffy white head. Aroma is sweet citrus. Taste is bright...refreshing citrus and fruit. Nice and refreshing, but nothing surprising or "special" about it. Great warm weather drinker.
2.4 Pours a hazy straw yellow. Aroma reminds me of a urinal cake. Not sure why. Lots of citrus on the nose. But not much flavor. Watery. Not enjoyable.
3.1 Bottle. Pours a clear orange gold with coarse white head, settles quickly with essentially no lace. Aroma is hoppy, citrus, floral. Flavor is citrus, malty, nutty, mildly piney, with a fruity, peach, grape finish. Quite fruity and sweet. Soft carbonation, light body, and juicy texture. Light, sweet, fruity blond ale.
2.7 Pours a clear deep golden yellow. Aroma is a bit nutty and lightly spicy/peppery. The taste is light and a bit watered down. The citra comes through as pungent and peppery, but it’s strength is a little weak. Also grainy and nutty. Good crisp finish, but undewhelming due to the whole weak flavor
3.0 Bottled. Poured cloudy straw golden with a short, spotty white head. The aroma picked up a kiss of citrus over soft bready malts.. not a whole lot going on, but it smelled refreshing. The flavor found bready notes and pale malts at the core with light grassy bitterness and scratchy orange peel around.. refreshing finish. Light-medium bodied with fairly high carbonation on the palate.. dry and grainy at times.. this was aiight.
1.9 355mL new label and bottle design. Chill haze, brighter gold pour. Medium, soapy white foam with weaker retention. Not much aroma- mild soap. Taste is bland- small soap and biscuit. Disappointing. Tastes almost like nothing :/
3.5 Hazy Yellow Color, Huge Head, Lots of Lacing. Moderate Orange Aroma. By the Looks and first sip impressions, you’d think this is a wheat beer.Malt, Citrus Sour, Grapefruit Biter, light peppery bitter finish. Real easy, refreshing summer beer. Enjoyed it. Good. ..
3.1 Backlog of ratings. Thanks to someone at one of bu11zeye’s tastings. The look is golden in color, whitish head, and clear. The smell is wheat, malts, floral, and fruits. The taste is the same as the smell.
3.6 Golden yellow pour with a white head. Aroma is citrus. Taste is a nice malt backbone balanced with the light citrus hops. Soft mouth feel. Low carbonation. Little lacing.
3.0 On tap pours out a pale golden topped with a long lasting white ring. Aroma cereal malts, lite hops, and some sweatness. Taste of sweet malts, floral, and a touch of bitterness.
3.0 12oz bottle. Bottled 4/10/13. ABV labeled 4.4%. Poured into my DFH IPA glass. Mostly clear yellow color. Thin white head, leaves pretty nice lace. Few small particles floating in the body. Flavor is bready, doughy, with some lemon citrus. More smooth, crisp carbonation of moderate strength. Lighter body. More dry finish. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter. OK golden ale. Citra doesn’t really shine well here. It might not help that the beer is nearly 5 months old, but hey, excuse me for drinking a summer brew in the summer.
3.7 Hazy orange pour some white head. Aroma of canned peaches, orange, pine. Tastes like it has fruit juice in it. Light carb. Smooth syrupy mouthfeel; sweet though not overly sweet with no real bitterness. Tastes of peaches, black pepper. Delicious fruity non-fruit beer.
2.8 Clear light orange with a small head. Aromas of citrus hops. Taste is slightly bitter with a sweet finish. Very watery mouthfeel. 4.3%=low boost
3.1 Bottle. Pours with a clear yellow hued body and a minimal white head with poor retention. Aromas are of citrus, papaya, tangerine and lemony hops. Mild biscuity malt character with lighter crystal notes. Slight iced tea, moderately low esters. Flavors are of grapefruit, tangerine hop notes, bready and almost grapenut like malt flavors. Citrusy, low bitterness. I would definitely prefer it to be a bit drier or more crisp. A touch flab, but easy to drink. Fuller carbonation.
3.6 Bottle. Pours gold with a white head. Lemony citrus and coriander, sweet and juicy fruity, and relatively low bitterness, followed by a clean and faintly hoppy finish. Good stuff, very drinkable.
