Widmer Brothers Reserve Barrel Aged Brrrbon

Widmer Brothers Reserve Barrel Aged Brrrbon

Hidden in the beautiful dark amber color are aromas of vanilla and caramel that compliment perfectly the presence of bourbon. Soft oak flavors transition into a sweet yet slightly dry finish. After aging the ale for four months, the malt and hop complexity of Brrr has melded harmoniously with the bourbon barrels and become a truly one of a kind beer.

3.4 Bottle at DØE Ølfestival 2016. No head. Hazy amber body. Sweet fruity malt honey artoma with bourbon, vanilla and wood in the background. Alcohol dominated bitter sweet fruty flavor with a long finish and a low carbonation.
3.5 2011 vintage I had this one last year and was amazing another year in the cellar didn’t help. Looks like it peaked at 4 years. Pours out a amber topped with a sand head. nose is caramel vanilla light bourbon barrel notes. Taste is starting to feel age a little cardboard but still with the sweet caramel malt and bourbon.
3.3 2011 vintage provided by buckeyeboy... Cool to see one of these again.. Thanks Jeremy!! pretty thin ... lite caramel and bunches of a mash-up of odd wood/whiskey/ and bits of dried fruit.. 9.4% isn’t readily available, but the overall brew is thin like a bigger amber that has some obvious barrel work... caramel and minor pick-up toasty malts.. I wish the hops had any play at all... really.. I wish anything with depth played ball tonight.... just nothing except the EtOH to really write home about.
2.9 2012 bottle, clear amber with ruby hues, just a trace of a beige head. Very sweet with Vanilla and Oak, hints of whiskey & cherries. Quite sweet, still beer with little carbonation. Very warm, alcohol is up front, not hidden. Slick oily feel. A bit of bitterness in the aftertaste but not nearly enough to balance the syrupy sweetness. Getting through this bottle alone will be a challenge.
3.4 650 ml bottle thanks to Adrien. 2013. Slight oxidation marks on the inside of cap. Deep Amber color, carbonation is ok. Aroma is light oak, mild dark fruits and slight oxidation. The flavor is faded. Weak bourbon, lots of oak upfront. The base is dark fruits and English malts. Body is fuller with a nice smoker carbonation level. Overall for the age it’s ok.

3.8 This is for ’12. Poured into snifter - clear dark orange with thick light tan head. Aroma - lots of bourbon note on nose, some dark fruits underneath. Light oak with bourbon notes on palate predominate, but finish is a bit earthy hoppy with some pine/resin.
3.4 Bottle. Pours clear amber with a small, creamy white head. Aroma has sweet malts, caramel, light toasted, mild oak. Medium carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is mild, caramel, malty, some sweetness, light vanilla, toasted, quite oaky dryness. Vinious and quite warming.
3.4 Bottle. It poured a dark amber color with an off-white head. The aroma was of malts, caramel with raspberry and bourbon. The taste was similar to the aroma with more caramel, malts, raspberry and bourbon. Nice.
3.1 2012 bottle on XMAS 2015. Pours a clear amber, thin beige head. Aroma is big bourbon, sweet malt, candied fruits, toffee, caramel. Flavor is oak, bourbon, prune, med sweet. Med body, fairly dry - more bourbon in nose than taste.
3.9 2011 bottle at Real: gastronomy pub, Honolulu (thanks Tap Hunter). Pours reddish amber with fleeting head. A boozy bourbon nose leading to rich malty taste with bourbon accents. Very smooth drinking and enjorable; I’m sure aging has mellowed the edges on this one.
3.7 Bottle from Salling. Pours clear dark brown with a small offwhite head. Aromas of lots of malts, bourbon, vanilla, booze, fudge, sweet licorice. Taste is boozy, bourbon, fudge, vanilla, chocolate, light hoppy. Pretty decent actually!
3.6 (Bourbon barrel ’13) Orange to brown beer, smallish head. Aroma has caramel malts, vanilla and Bourbon barrel, syrup sweetness. Taste is sweet, caramel and syrup, Bourbon and vanilla from the barrel. Some cookie or other malt flavour. Medium body and medium carbonation.
3.9 I’m sensing the barrel. Great. Dark sweet fruits. Elegant. Vanilla? Oh, lovely. This is for the friends of whiskey.
3.4 Hazy amber pour. Aromas of oak, bourbon, raspberry, vanilla. Full bodied, toffee flavours, caramel, vanilla, berries. Noticeable bourbon barrels. Lingering bitter finish with wet wood and light spice.
4.4 I didn't take any extra notes when I tried this beer for the first time but I'm gonna try it again and update my comments.
3.9 Keg pour at NH Brewfest. Appearance is light brown, no sparkle, off-white head with decent retention and fair lacing. Aroma is moderately roasted malts. Taste is also moderately sweet roasted maltiness with some alcohol. Palate is light-to-medium with light texture and average to lively carbonation and finish is long, moderately sweet. Overall, I didn’t get the effect of the bourbon barrel aging but this was good nonetheless.
3.7 Bottle. Pours a clear amber colour with a small head. Very smooth taste of malt, oak, vanilla and bourbon. Very good but could use "a little more of everything". ;-) [backlog]
3.5 2013 Vintage. Sampled thanks to Kraddel @ Rampkrot. Deep amber, little head. Nose is oxidized bourbon mixed with very cheap candy, heavy sugar & strong soda-like quality with some caramel. Taste is a bit akin to a fizzy soda / softdrink mixed with bourbon, oxidation, basic sweet sugar, caramel, cheap candy, a bit watery, fizzy, touch honey, toffee. Thinned out, tad watery, fizzy. Weird, possible ravages of time. Very odd, not sure if I like it or hate it. Deeply flawed. A puzzling mistake of sorts, probably better fresh.
3.3 2013 version, thnx to an awesome trader (if only I could remember names) . Pours redcopper, clear, small layer of white foam. Smell is sweet, grains, like a BW. Bourbon. Taste is Bit bitter, sharp grains. Bit sweet, hints of bourbon. Pretty weak base. Bourbon lives next to the base, but doesn’t blend in too well.
3.5 Bottle - Barrel Aged Brrrbon 12. Clear amber body with a medium white head. Sweet, caramel, bourbon, candy sugar, light hops.
3.4 Bottle to glass. Pours a deep amber light brown color with a small light tan head. Basically a weak english barleywine with a touch of spice and a faint bourbon character. Not terrible.
