Widmer Brothers Rotator IPA Series - Falconer's IPA

Glen Falconer was passionate about friends, familly, and great IPAs. So in tribute, we’ve created an IPA worth of this master brewer. Made with Falconer’s Flight hops from Hopunion, LLC, a blend named for Glen himself. The result is a bright, moderately bitter IPA with stonefruit aromas and a strong malt backbone. We think Glen would approved. Proceeds from the sale of Falconer’s Flight hops go to the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation, providing scholarships to professional and aspiring brewers. In addition, Widmer Brothers Brewing is making a donation to grant two additional scholarships. Learn more at www.glenfalconerfoundation.org. Prost! To true hop heads.

4.0 Amber colour, one finger beige head. Aroma of caramel, bananas, toffee. Taste is light sweet, not very bitter. Light to med body, velvety texture, soft carbonation.
3.6 It’s hazy red copper with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of soap, caramel and exotic fruits. The flavor is sweet with dry notes of fruit, caramel, berries and the finish has a light and fairly dry bitterness.
3.1 Bottle. Yellow color with a white head. A soapy floral and pine aroma and does not carry any better into the finish and palate. It seems somewhat astringent and lacks some sweetness or citrus balance. The malts are a little harsh.
3.6 Dark chestnut brown in the glass, The beer starts slightly malty and very nice hopped. The mainpart is smooth, highly drinkable, nice malt basis and very nice floral hoppy, the bitterness is also very nice and round. The aftertaste is long, slightly sweet, malty-dry and nicely floral hoppy bitter. --> very nice maltier IPA. Not too sweet, but I think the malt-basis tends to put the floral hops a bit into the background. --> 12/13/12/12
3.5 Amber with a medium tan head. Aroma of caramel, woodsy and floral hops and some bready malt. Taste is balanced with bready malt, caramel and floral hops and a mild bitter finish.
3.5 Sample at DØE 2013. Hazy amber colour with an off-white head. Aroma and flavour of hops, fruit, malt and caramel.
3.4 Bottle from Maruhn, Darmstad; marked Nov 20 12 (bottling date?) Hazy amber color with small head. The aroma is caramel-forward, apparently sweet, with a fruity touch. Strong caramel flavor, with moderate residual sweetness; strong bitterness (although well blended in), with medium-strong resins, and bitter orange fruitiness. Too caramelly for me, for an IPA, but a good beer overall, although it doesn’t seem very fresh.
3.5 Bottle: Amber, hazy, small but lacy off-white head, distinctive spicy piney-hoppy nose, maybe some more exotic fruits underneath, caramel detectable; quite dry moderate bitter-sweet flavour, quite light bodied for a beer of 7.0%; dry and lingering piney-hoppy finish with traces of dark malt and the good old cough syrup, all in all a bit harsh. Not a world-class brew, but still a chunky IPA…
3.5 22. Pours a cloudy medium amber with a scant off-white head. Big sweet pine and floral nose with soft fruit notes at the edges. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Darkly toasted caramel with some tangy fruit notes on the mid palate. Mild sweet finish.
3.4 Pours an amber color with nice fluffy off white head. Aroma of caramel with some floral fruity notes. Hoppy but not overly so. Medium bodied with a nice clean finish. A very nice drinking beer.
3.5 bottle from Bierzwerg. Clear amber colour, mid-sized, creamy white head. Full-bodied, good malty base that supports the citrusy-resiny hop flavours.
3.7 Pours copper with off-white head. Aroma is caramel, toasted, wood and fruits. Flavour is bitter, caramel, toasted, wood and citrus. Texture isa bit oily with light to medium body.
2.9 Pours a deep clear copper color with about a 1" white head that sustains pretty well. Smell is bready/grainy with some pine. A bit too malt forward for an IPA. Taste is similar. Strong bready and caramel malt bakcbone with some slightly astringent pine dry bitter finish. Hints of some wood as well give it a unique taste. Mouthfeel is good with good carbonation. Perfectly drinkable beer although the dry bitter finish may make having more than 1-2 of these unpalatable. Nothing horrible, but nothing great either.
3.4 Can’t remember if this was a bottle or on tap - but from Bonefish restaurant. Copper-orange pour. Aroma is earthy hops and caramel malts. Tastes are floral, light spice, caramel, pine, grapefruit, little on the toasty side. Fair enough w/ dinner.
3.1 Bottle @ døe meeting. Brew date 20/11 2012. Clear reddish amber, small white head that quickly disappear, some lacing. Aroma, malty sweet, hoppy, fruity. Taste, malty, hoppy bitter, fruity, citrus, piney. Wish it was fresh. Bitter dry aftertaste.
3.3 Dunkel hopfiger, sehr frischer Antrunk. Würziger werdend, die Hopfigkeit bleibt vorhanden, fällt aber vergleichsweise zurück. Vollmundig, süffig. Zum Ende grasiger, dezent bitter, rund fruchtige Noten. Gelungen! 9/10/11/11/11/11
3.6 Bottle. Orange colour with a white head with medium duration. Aroma is very hoppy, fresh sensation and tropical fruits. Flavor has a very decent bitterness with orange peel notes, tangerine, mango and more tropical fruits are present. Also resins hops are highly present. The final is bittery with a long duration but no disturb in the throat.
3.2 Bottle. Pours slightly hazy amber with a lacing and partly lasting frothy off-white medium head. Aroma is caramel malts, fruit, toffee, citrussy and herbal hops. Taste is moderate sweet and light+ bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is moderate. Finishes sweet with a lingering moderate bitterness. This beer begs for more aroma hops, the sweet malt base is left with all the attention.
3.0 Pours amber with thin off white foamy head. Smells of very light hops. Tastes of citrus, hops, and bitter. Short to medium on the palate with light carbonation.
2.4 Poured up amber with a head that died out almost soon after it was in the glass. Aroma is sweet with a grass and fruitish smell. Taste is fruitish with a odd malt flavor and slight alcohol. Not exactly my first pick for an IPA but it is still at least drinkable.
3.6 Bottled@CPH BF 2013. Deep amber colour with a mediumsized creamy off-white head that leaves some lace. Aroma is fruity and floral with nectary and honey notes to it as well. Flavour is quite crisp crystal malts along with some toffee along with big time fruity and floral notes and a nice mellow bitterness in the finish. Wellbalanced IPA.
3.7 The appearance has a golden amber color to it. The aroma is slightly sweet with a strong pine hop aroma. The taste is sweet with a medium malt background flavor.
3.3 From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. It pours copper amber with a moderate short-lived head. The aroma is of pale malts, caramel malts, and mild earthy hops. The body is medium. The taste has an immediate sweetness with a touch of butter and there is a moderate hop bitterness at the end. Not all that bad.
3.4 Bottle: Thanks to Joes: Served in a snifter: Medium sized off white foamy head/lacing on topmof a hazy yellow orange colored beer. Aromas of oatmeal, horse feeder, griesmeel, meal, dough, some dusty old fruits and light malty. Flavour is a bit dull, old hops, some bitters, cream, malts, oatmeal, some old fruits, yeast, corn and grains. Aftertaste is creamy, malts, corn, bitters, old fruits and yeast. Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied and a creamy texture.
3.6 Bottle shared by Joes. Clear medium to dark orange color, small quickly diminishing white head. Smell malts, hops, mandarin, lightly sweetish. Taste moderate to heavy malty, hops, pine, resin, bitter. Medium body and carbonation.
3.4 Bottle @ joes. Hazy orange colour with a small off-whitw head. Smells dough, cookies, some hops, malty. Tastes malty, some hops, hay. Medium body, soft carbo.
3.3 (bottle, 35.5cl) Hazy, amber to copper colour with a medium-sized and slightly tanned foamy head. Slightly sugary bready malty aroma with notes of caramel and a mildly spicy and subtle fruity hoppy touch. Sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Bready malt-character with notes of caramel and candy sugar; dry-ish bitter-sweet finish with spicy hops; caramel in the aftertaste. Quite a malt-accented IPA. 23.VII.13
3.4 From YNWABS, Kolding, DK. Bottled, 170713. Amber with white head. Aroma of malt and fruit. Flavour with spices and solid bitterness.
3.0 Bärnstensfärgad med mellanstort ljust skum! Mycket malt i smaken och inte så humlig! Helt ok ipa
3.1 Bottle. Light amber, hazy, small to average and fully diminishing head. Moderate, malty and sweetish aroma, caramel and some tropical fruitiness, light citrus and grapefruit hoppyness. Body is medium, malty and caramel sweetish flavor, light toffee, some tropical fruitiness, light citrus and grapefruit hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and sweetish, some caramel and light fruitiness, some grapefruit - light citrus hoppyness. Sweetish IPA with caramel - way too sweet for me/could use more bitterness (and less caramel).
