Widmer Brothers Rotator IPA Series - Hopside Down IPL (India Pale Lager)

Widmer Brothers Rotator IPA Series - Hopside Down IPL (India Pale Lager)

We’re turning things deliciously upside down with an aggressively hopped cold-fermented brew that brings together the clean crisp finish of a lager with the hoppy aroma and character of an IPA. PROST! To turning convention on its head.

3.2 Bottle - Pours a hazy golden with smallish head. Aromas of citrus and bread. Full lager malts with some bitterness. Decent IPL.
2.7 12oz bottle to tulip. Pours hazy orange, dissipated white head. Aroma of citrus fruit and spice. Taste of sweet malts, citrus and floral. Good light hoppy beer...for the lawnmower.
3.0 12Fl OZ ($14.99 12 pack) got this in a variety pack. its pretty good as is everything else in the case. good chugging beer from these guys. not crazy cratched but pretty good for the price, all beers in the box had high ABV. this one came off pretty good, smooth lager with a sneaky ABV of 6.7%. I would buy again.
3.2 355ml bottle. Gold pour. Arroma is fruity and sweet, slightly herbal. Flavor is caramel, grain husk, very sweet, then some fruits. Not very ipa like, jsut a sweet fruity lager. Not necessarily bad.
3.3 Unclear light orange, small frothy white head. Caramel and biscuit with some citrus, grass, earth. Light body. Semi dry. Mild bitter. I’d have another.
3.8 clean crisp citrus aroma. hops and yeast. Floral and earthy characteristics. The flavors last a long time. Slight hoppy/bitter finish. Very enjoyable :)
3.0 (bottle - 12 oz) Golden pour with a white head. Very mild aroma. Subtle hops and a hint of fruit and malt sweetness. More malt in the flavor at the start but moves into a fruity and slightly floral hop middle. Lightly bitter finish. Middle of the road.
3.4 Bottle. Clear gold with a moderate white head. Slightly musty lager aroma blended with the hood for s unique combination. Light, refreshing.
3.5 crisper than your average ipa but definitely hopped like one. slightly resinous, good balance and a nice fresh nose.
3.7 12 oz bottle: Aroma has a really nice floral hop scent, juicy, pine, light resin, and little to no malt characteristics. Appearance is a clear golden with the slightest orange hue and a medium white head that diminishes slowly. Taste has got a nice punch of hops upfront with a nice smooth lager finish. Palate has got a medium carbonation and a clean aftertaste. Overall, I was really surprised with this one. I enjoyed it a lot. Cheers!
3.2 Clearish gold, light gold, light head. Average carb. Aroma is minimal on hops with light fruit notes and mostly a minerally light toast/caramel character. Light floral maybe. Bottle is only a few months old and this is seasonal? I believe. Taste is of a toast malt buiscuit with some slight roast and light toffee/ caramel. Has some hop fruit in flavor with a light slickness. Bitter is kind of spicey like with grapefruit and minty pine. Hop flavor and bitter is there but aroma is lacking. Something a bit diety tasting in the nature of the bittering/hops in this though. Not too bad overall though.
3.3 It poured a hazy orange color with a white head. The aroma was of pine, resin, a touch of fruity notes and some bread with malt notes. The taste was crisp, clean, bitter with mild citrus and pine notes. Nice.
3.2 Bottle at home. Pours golden color, white head. Aroma is floral, hoppy, caramel, herbal. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter, malty, caramel, grapefruit, orange, herbal notes.
3.4 Clear golden pour with minimal head—no lacing. Aroma of grass and biscuit. Flavor is semisweet, malty with a herbal bitterness. Very enjoyable up front, but a lingering dryness to the finish.
3.0 Bottle from Prima Beer @ Kristrup tasting. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, light stale grassy hops. Flavor is light sweet, malty, caramel, grass, light bitter hops. Medium body, average carbonation, light bitter finish. 310115
4.0 on tap at Dog & Bull in Croydon - Really good! A nice, hoppy, sweet IPA. Nice aroma and flavor. I’ll definitely look for this again.
3.4 I was looking forward to the return of this beer from Widmer. A unique cross of lager with the hop profile of an IPA. Beautiful golden color in the glass. Easy to drink and finishes with a little dryness. I don’t find the 6.7 ABV too overwhelming.
1.6 Dull hoppy aroma. Wew, first taste is a big kick in the palate and now I see its almost 7% wew. Chewing on older green grapefruit rinds. Over the top and too much for these girlie taste buds. Finish is like licking slick oily liquid soap. Terribly on style if this is an doubly impy pale ale. Clean clear taste of a lager or do you imperial pilz? Brutally on hoppy style something strong or imperial.
3.3 Poured from bottle, pours a clear dark gold with a bubbly white head, the aroma has a good amount of fruit and hops with a kick of grain as well, the flavor has a hop and citrus front end with a sweeter finish at the same time, hoppy sweet juice, huh.
4.3 12oz bottle pour, two finger white foam head. Light golden to amber color. Nice floral smell, very much caramel taste on the start with a crisp, slightly bitter finish.
2.6 12oz bottle. Poured a golden color with an averaged sized head. Pine, grass, and stale hops with some graininess.
2.9 12oz bottle (Courtesy of Headbanger) poured into a Shaker at 42°. Color is bright gold with good carbonation and rocky white head. Aroma is very mellow with some malt showing and a bit of hops. It has a lighter medium body giving a smooth mouth feel. Flavor is very light malt, citrus, spice and bitterness. After taste is clean and bitter. Overall its ok, smooth and clean but not much flavor.
3.4 Bottle. Creamy White good mostly lasting head. Yellow colour. Light malty and heavy hoppy aroma. Flowery. Heavy bitter flavor. Average heavy bitter finish. Oily palate.
3.5 bottle - Pours yellow-orange with a one finger off-white head. It smells of citrus hops. The flavor has some caramel malt and a good citrus hop character. So it’s a lager? Okay, it tastes like a pretty good IPA.
3.0 Lager meets IPA and the result is ... satisfying. Yellow-orange with a fine head. Grape dominates the aroma with further notes of metal and hay. Bitter with some alcohol noted in the distance. Nice.
3.1 Bottled same from happy Harry's. Pours straw colour. Cris and clean lager with great ipa type hoppiness
4.1 Light orange colour, white head. Aroma of hops, caramel, toffee. Taste is light sweet, light to medium bitter. Light to medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Very nice.
2.8 Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate lager yeast, pine, light florals, sweet cereal notes, and a touch of straw. It pours a transparent golden-orange with two finger white head that quickly fades to a thick film. There is a good amount of soapy webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of light honey and grainy sweetness. The finish has light-moderate pine, lighter citrus, grapefruit, and a touch of grass. It’s light-medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, not bad, but not really my thing.
3.6 This beer really surprised me with how good it is....nice cloudy golden orange pour....sweetness on the nose with a pleasant hops mix.....flavor is crisp and full of hops with a perfect bite...a very pleasant drink.
2.9 Flaske. Klar gylden med et ok hvidt skum. Humlet næse, desværre i den i den græssede, let støvede stil. Der kompenseres for den manglende friskhed med en god fyldig næsten kikseagtig maltprofil. Bedre i munden end i næsen. Desværre endnu en ok, men middelmådig øl fra Widmer.
