Widmer Brothers Rotator IPA Series - Shaddock IPA

Widmer Brothers Rotator IPA Series - Shaddock IPA

People sometimes describe the aromas and flavors of hoppy IPAs as “grapefruit.” Hell, why not use some then? Widmer’s brewing team used a simple IPA recipe and added a generous amount of dried grapefruit peel to the end of the boil. The aroma is a melody of citrus, with a slight spice undertone, accentuated by the use of Citra hops. The flavor is that of nice hop forward IPA with the bitterness of grapefruit.

3.6 Bottle at home. Pours slightly hazy amber/orange with a off white head. Very fruity, sweet aroma. Nice initial bitterness, then some malt backbone. Medium body, pleasant bitter aftertaste.
3.6 Poured a light orange, very similar to honey. Smelled and tasted mostly of pine. Slight citrus tastes. The bitterness is up front and lasting. Great sipping beer
3.2 From a bottle, dated August 12th, making this one almost 6 months old. I wish more breweries would specify "Best By" dates so I could go easy on an old beer. Anyway - aroma is citrus and grapefruit. Taste is definitely heavy on the grapefruit. Not an overpowering taste, but tilted a little too much towards grapefruit in the relatively bitter finish. Drinkable, not terrible, but I didn’t want a second one.
4.1 Draught at Beer Authority NYC sept 2012. Clear amber beer with a nice offwhite head. Hoppy, sweetish, fruity and grassy aroma. Sweet hops, fruity and grassy flavour with nice bitterness that dosen´t last. Lovley beer :-)
3.7 Golden orange with a decent off-white head. Aroma is tons of grapefruit, floral, light pine and more grapefruit. Taste is grapefruit, grass, floral, light soil.
3.4 Bottle. The look is clear, orange colored, with an off white head. The smell is nice, orange, fruits, citrus, grapefruits, hops, and good. The taste is medium bitterness, fruit, pine, orange, and grapefruits.
3.4 On draft at the Brass Tap pours an amberish orange color with aromas of citrus, grapefruit, light pine and some spice. Flavors follow suit just a lighter version of it. Ok ipa overall.
4.0 Gold clear but yestie bits.NIce lace, nice froth,ok head. Going on 7 months, this is still nice with orange dank spicey fruit notes, excellent smooth citrus.Pungent, dank this is still hoppy as hell. Malty buttery, caramel, slight toast, hoppy citrus, smoooth this is a damn goodness. Very smooth clean hoppy, kinda bright but too smooth.
3.6 12oz bottle in a shaker. Pours amber with an off-white head. Aroma of citrusy hops, grapefruit as they say, and some caramel and pale malts. Flavor the same. Average texture. A pretty good IPA.
3.7 Yellowish-orange in color, some chill haze, and nice frothy white head that lasts. Citrus, grapefuit, spice, and a touch of melon in the aroma. Light and refreshing, not overly carbonated. A hop-forward brew with citrus and a grapefruit-rind bitterness to finish. Tasty and inviting. Not too in-your-face, but with enough interest to keep coming back.
3.7 Bottle. Pours a vibrant orange with white head. Aroma is floral hops. Flavor is floral hops, grapefruit with a nice smooth mouthfeel. This rotator series is solid.
3.6 Bottle. Bright golden color with a sudsy head. Nice inviting citrus-blossom aroma. Drinks with a nice floral flourish up front. There’s a hint of grassy spice in the background, but this is a citric IPA all the way. (#4858, 12/16/2012)
3.4 Hazy light orange with a small, white head. Scent is grapefruit, citrus...very faint. Taste is mild, sweet grapefruit with a spiced tingle...malt.. Very soft, easy. Bitter is quite subdued throughout. A rather quiet IPA. Enjoyable..nice balance.
3.4 From the 12 fl. oz. bottle stamped 08:37NH-JUN2012. It pours a light copper orange color with a fizzy head. The aroma is nicely hopped with the floral variety. A little breaded malts too. The body is creamy and medium. The taste is bitter from start to finish with a vibrant floral and lightly lingering finish.
3.6 Bottle. Citric, dank, and grassy, with light malty sweetness and a medium bitter hoppy finish. Pretty good.
4.2 12 oz Bottle at Memphis Meis in Ossining NY. Nice deep golden pour with a fluffy head. Hops, Grapfruit and pine with just a hint of Cinnimon keep this beer highly refreshing while eating NY BBQ. Enjoy!
3.7 Bottled June 05 so not old but not quite off the bottling line fresh either. Bright orange yellow, so-so head, scant lace. Smells like grapefruit (surprise) and hops, citrus. Taste is grapefruit, hops, a hint of malt to hold it together. Very, very easy drinking IPA and I thought it would be good since I liked the X-114 IPA. Overall, I’d buy this again. Not the hoppiest IPA but hoppy enough. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 07-18-2012 03:41:03
3.5 Poured a crystal clear golden amber with a tall foamy off-white head. Ther were lots of carbonation bubbles rising up in the glass that lasted for the entire glass. The was a nice fruity aroma with apricot, tangerine and orange, but not much grapefruit. However there was a nice mild grapefruit flavor in the beer with a slightly bitterness like the rind of a grapefruit. The head dropped to about 1 finger and left some light clingy lacing. The finish mellowed away from the bitterness and was morerefreshing citrus one.
3.7 Clear pale color. White frothy head. I don't detect any abnormal amount of grapefruit. It goes well. A very enjoyable IPA
2.8 This draft brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized white colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a softly carbonated transparent light orange colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was malt hop. The smooth mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and strongly tingly at the finish with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of green hops. A decent one that I would consider buying again.
2.2 Pours a light cloudy orange with a short lived head. The aroma was a nice floral citrus hop sent. The flavor was a light funky bitter taste. The body was medium with a nasty bitter aftertaste.Overall not a good beer.
3.4 You know, the grapefruit isn’t such a bad idea. It makes a dry beer a little more juicy, and it makes a spicy beer like this one a little more lively on the other end of the spectrum. Bright and well-hopped. The malts are a bit mushy and plain. Damp palate.
3.6 Poured orange with fluffy head from the bottle. Sweet and citrus smell. Bitter and flat taste, but a good fruity taste. Would have again and better than I thought it would be
3.7 Aroma is pine/grapefruit and a grassy/bitter/resinous element. The flavor is grapefruit skin/a hint of pulp, a mild undercurrent of sweetness/juiciness, malts and a bitter and tangy finish.
3.4 Grapefruit-flavored IPA. Grapefruit strong on front and hits hard. Tastes better as it goes. Grapefruit overpowers the hops but slight malts can be detected. Interesting take on IPA but ultimately unnecessary.
3.4 Draft. Clear golden body. Big, frothy white head. Aroma of grapefruit rind, toasted grain, raw hops, resin. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Grapefruit with artificial sweetener taste, but clean. A little too much of the grapefruit juice going on here and some husky grain creeps into the background. As it warms, the huskiness becomes more prominent.
3.5 GABF 2012 Appearance: Clear golden with a big white head Aroma: Grapefruit and grassy Taste: Grassy, floral with a bitter grapefruit finish Nice
2.0 12 ounce bottle. Pours a golden yellow with a thin white head that lasts. Taste is of pine, resin, citrus, hops and some grapefruit. Similar aroma. The body is decent, with a bit of bitterness and dryness. An okay beer, that falls short when compared to other IPAs.
3.8 tap at Dash In - Pours gold-orange with an off-white lingering head. It has a citrus and flower hop aroma. The flavor is bitter and full of rich citrus with a solid malt background. Citrusy bitterness lingers on the palate along with a hint of pine and resin. Very good IPA.
3.2 bottle at home ... amber ... thin white lacing ... soft toffe malt (the same one i dont like) ... big grapefuit nose ... sweet fruits ... mellow soft grapefruit ... light amount of that malt ... ligth gentle grapefruit linger. ... huge fresh grapefruit (as in i feel ive just eaten a grapefruit) finish
