3.4 Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of yespr/Ungstrup. Pours a dark brown - almost black - with a vague tint of red and a small, light brown head. Sweetish aroma of hard roasted malt. Medium body, sweetish hard roasted malt and a hint of vanilla. Heavy sweetness and a lightly bitter malt finish. 210309
3.8 Bottle. Weak roasted aroma, a little dust. Very dark brown colour. The flavour is nicely roasted, with some liquorice, turning to roasted coffee. A little sweet as well, giving a slightly syrupy mouthfeel. Good creamy and sweet finish. Gets a little sweet, but manages to stay almost balanced.
3.5 Bottled. A dark re-brown beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt, chocolate, and caramel. The flavor is sweet and very malty with light notes of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate , the mouthfeel is very smooth. Boring at first, but it grew on me.
3.4 12 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a fully gone head. Dense roasted malt and light chocolate aroma. Chocolate malty and slight roasted base flavour with a light acidic note and smooth and bitter chocolate. Mild bitter and lasting chocolate flavoured finish.
3.5 12oz bottle. Dark brown pour with a thin off-white head. Malty aroma with licorice and cream. Malty and sweet up front with a nice roasty finish. Pretty good.
3.5 Thanks to Rogueone for sharing a bottle. The brew is an opaque dark brownish black color with a medium tan head that burns away steadily. Small patches of lacing. The aroma consists of roasted malt and chocolate. Medium, low-carbonated body with flavors of milk chocolate and roasted coffee, along with sweet malt. The finish is mocha-flavored with a chocolatey aftertaste. Decent overall.
3.3 smells like roasted malt with mild aftersmell of coffee. pours very dark and without any noticeable head. tastes very creamy and milky with obvious flavors of coffee and roasted maltiness. goes down thicker than it really is. no hops, but its got that tasty coffee flavor. i could drink this in the morning and not feel guilty. 3.4 T - sweet silky first taste with a strong bitter chocolate coffee kick a moment later. V - somewhat thin looking pour, decent sized head. black with cola-ish bubbles. A - muted, watery, P - somewhat thin but decent
3.7 Deep brown almost black pour. Lite brown sugar and toasted malt on the nose. Coffee with a hint of semi sweet chocolate flavor and a good finishing bitter. Medium/Full bodied. Pretty solid beer.
3.7 My favorite Widmer beer by far, this one is a lovely dark brown with a middling tan head. Smells of molasses, coffee and chocolate and tastes heavily of chocolate and coffee with a nice hop finish. Almost a viscous mouthfeel too, very pleasing to the tongue. Why do they not brew more like this one?
3.7 A dark brown appearance with a beige head. The aroma contains chocolate, coffee, and oatmeal. The flavor is rather sweet with some milk chocolate, oatmeal, and coffee. I didn’t expect much from this one but I was pleasently suprised.
3.5 Thanks to decaturstevo for sharing this one. Mostly black with some ruby at the edges. Light coffee aroma. Light sweetness, not much complexity or bitterness. Smooth easy drinking.
3.6 12oz bottle from BevMo Carmel Mountain. The aroma is of plum, and coffee. The appearance is a dark brown, almost black. The flavor is smooth, very smooth, yes even milky. Really liked this one.
3.4 Pours a richy dark murky brown color with a small fizzy tan head that dissapates to near nothing. Nose of chocolate, mollasses and coffee. Initial taste of tons of chocolate, balancing roasted malt, candi sweetness, coffee and lactic notes. Mid palate displays some mollasses. Finishing sweet, light bitter hops and chocolate. Just enough sweetness to not overpower. Average palate duration. Medium body, decent viscosity with velvety smooth mouthfeel. Decent stuff.
3.5 Bottled. Poured clear, darker brown with a short-lived cap of tan head. The aroma was quite nice with sweeter chocolates, coffee, and caramel laced with milky sweetness.. quite sweet overall. The flavor had coffee, sweet chocolate, and milky notes at the core with light, tacky coffee bitterness surrounding.. the back-end found lots more of the same.. medium-length, sweet finish. Medium-bodied and extra-sweet on the palate.. decent flow.. low bitterness. Very, very drinkable.
3.5 fairly fresh sample: bottled Pours as black as a Divorce Lawyer’s heart...light sticky mocha cap...low carbonation. Aroma is lightly sweet with large cocoa tones a whisp of grass. Wonderfully silky smooth and rich mouth feel and texture (lactose) lightly sweet but not cloying, coffee-coca. light but sufficient hop bittering...long finish where the sweet lactose-cocoa give way to a gradual bittering from hops and black patent malt charred astringence...wonderfully approachable stout....very drinkable
3.3 12oz bottle: pours black with tan head, aroma of roased malt, flavor roased malt and has coffee, im not a huge fan of coffee in a beer. decent beer but cant stand coffee in beer.
3.3 Black with a mediocre head. Aroma is of coffee. Taste is of malts and coffee. a little sweet. Not amazing.
3.5 Pours a two finger light tan head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving a little lace. Almost black faint mahogany highlights. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Malty nose. Flavor is sweet roasted coffee, finish has a hint of burnt coffee. $1.45 for a 12oz bottle from John’s Marketplace Portland, OR.
3.3 Black to dark brown in color with a small to mediocre head. Coffee aromas and tastes. It does have some malty sweetness in the aroma and flavor but seems missing the normal lactose sweetness. Medium body.
3.5 Pours opaque with foamy tan head. Not too potent. Aroma is sweet roast. Deliciously smooth. Not astringent like some stouts. Slightly watery mouth feel and thin but I love the smooth finish.
4.3 Ive always loved this style , Widmer does it justice,As the commercial description says the recipe they use is actually based from a collaboration with their local homebrew club.I understand the Widmer tweaked it a little .What I didnt know was the recipe was used in the 1999 AHA big brew which is a day all the hombrew clubs brew a similar recipe this is the "Collaborator Milk Stout" the recipe is easily googled. My description is Dark brown ,creamy tan head , medium body ,low carbonation ,Taste is mocha maltiness and really smooth.
3.2 Widmer is just decent in everything they do. This beer pours a nice dark chocolate brown color with a big foamy tan head. Nose is roasted malt, bitter chocolate and some alcohol. Taste is very sweet and creamy, of cococa and malt. Not crazy about most sweet stouts but this is somewhat watery which makes the sweetness not overbearing. Not bad but nothing special.
3.3 Aroma is roasted coffee with a hint of nail polish. Pours with a quickly fading small light brown head. Extremely dark brown. No real lacing. Flavor ends moderately sweet with also a sour-salty feel. Taste is a bit watery to be honest. Creamy softly carbonated mouth feel. Nothing special.
3.5 A smooth, sweet, and tasty Stout. Agree this could be too filling to drink very many. It came in a Brew-fest 12 pack and it was one of the better ones. Would go well with a meal or a bar snack. The price right too. About $1 US per bottle. Update: 12-12-08: Pours black with a one-finger tan head, good amount of lacings. Aroma cocoa, coffee. Taste is chocolate, coffeee, sweet roasted malts, some bitter hops. Palate is smooth, dark flavors. Drinkability is pretty good for the style. My bottle says 5.9% abv.
3.1 Pours a beautiful black with a nice brown head that laces solid rings as it dissipates. Aroma is a strong malty sweet that hints at the malty, caramel flavor. The medium mouth feel works well for this beer, as it finishes sweet. In my case, almost too sweet to finish. Otherwise, a good beer that could substitute for a small meal.
3.5 A nice sweet stout; right in the middle of the style, with nothing offensive but nothing to get real excited about.
3.7 12oz bottle from a friend who works for A-B. PItch black. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. This is really nice. Sweet, but not overbearing. The mouthfeel is smooth and velvety. There is a nice lingering flavor of chocolate. Very good.
3.7 I’m not a fan of everything Widmer does, but this milk stout is the perfect companion when they are using snow plows outside your door! sweet, silky, chocolate malts and low bitterness make this an entirely quaffable stout.
3.6 From a 12-ounce bottle, nice dark malt aromas. Slight molassas notes, nice mouthfeel, slightly sweet character (lactose?), mellow chocolate flavor. Not very rich or complex but easy-drinking.
