Wild Beer / Burning Sky / Good George Shnoodlepip

Keg and Bottled, Special

Shnoodlepip – 6.5% – Pink Pepper + Barrels + Passion Fruit + Hibiscus

The next beer to appear this summer will be one of the most exciting we are yet to be involved with…

A collaboration of 3 brewers, 3 nationalities and 6 ideas.

We collaborate to learn, experiment and enjoy. With this beer we have explored new ideas, techniques, ingredients, combinations and processes.

Kelly Ryan from Good George Beer in NZ, Brett Ellis (originally from the US) from the Wild Beer Co, and Mark Tranter from Burning Sky Brewery have used their combined knowledge and experiences to create an incredibly unusual and complex beer, at every opportunity they have sourced an amazing ingredient or tried an alternative technique.

Grain – Spices – Yeast – Wood – Fruit – Flowers

Somerset Sharpham Park Spelt has been used for a full body. Pink peppercorns give a gentle sweet spiciness. Saison and Brettanomyces yeast strains lead to a dry spicy character that will continue to evolve. Wood-ageing in French red wine barrels for 4 months adds depth and oak. Passion-fruit brings a tart tropical fruit character. The 4 month ageing process has been finished off with amazingly tangy Hibiscus flowers.

That is one shnoodlepippin beer!

Note:- 2015 release has a change in label design with Fork Brewing replacing the Good George logo.

3.8 Super enjoyable sour farmhouse. This beer encourages a speed of drinking perhaps not entirely appropriate. Well done.

3.6 A bright orange sour with a tonne of flavor. Savory with the hibiscus coming through very strongly. More savory than sweet. The passion fruit is very understated.
3.8 330ml bottle. Aroma is peppery, floral, thyme and a little fruitiness. Flavour is floral, herbal from the pepper and there’s some fruitiness. It’s very unusual, with lots of savouriness and herbal notes. I think I really like it.
3.0 Tap @Royal Navy Volunteer, Bristol. Tiny, quickly disappearing head, pink/orange colour, hazy. Aroma of strawberries, raspberries and other berries. Sour taste with tonic/dry aftertaste. Light body, long finish, lively. Could have been better if not that annoying dry aftertaste.

Note: 6+/10
3.7 2015 edition. Appearance- very cloudy light amber, half a finger off-white head. Aroma- lambic, wood, oak, yeast, freshly cut hedgerow, must, pepper, ammonia, tropical fruit, grapefruit. Taste- loads of tart fruit, grapefruit, rhubarb, gooseberry, spices, vinous, oak towards the finish, fruit lambic, tannins, champagne, yeast, dry lip-puckering finish. Unusual, quite good, a bit like a cross between wine and lambic.

3.3 Draft. Amber beer with a cream head. Tart and light sour aroma. Sour and light acetic flavor with light herbal notes. Medium bodied. Sour and light acetic notes linger with light herbalness and light tropical fruit.
3.7 [2015] 330ml bottle from Boutip, thanks! Golden orange with a foamy white head. Slight haze. Flavors are lemon, sweet citrus, passion fruit, apple peel, pepper, light funk and earth with floral and vinous notes. Generous lactic acidity. Light to medium body, good carbonation, slick texture.
3.8 Bottle: Poured a cloudy peachy/pinkish color ale with a medium size foamy head with limited retention and not much lacing. Aroma of light passion fruit notes with hibiscus and oak is pretty unique and refreshing. Taste is a nice mix of passion fruit with light hibiscus and some oak with light funky barnyard notes. Body is full with limited filtration and some light carbonation. Nice refreshing drink with nice use of passion fruit with some good level of complexity.
4.2 Hazy lighter amber color with nice thickish off white foam. Aromas are sour and reminds of pomegranate, sour passionfruits, peppers, sour cherries and well it is freaking complex aromas, hard to make out what it is specificaly but to sum it up bunch of sweet more acidic/sour fruits and berries mashed into one, quite nice! Palate, full body with somewhat heavish mouthfeel leaving tart, sour, sharp fruity finish. Taste, sweet and sour, of forest fruits such as blueberries, rasberies and pomegranate, passionfruit and kiwi in more sour form. Overall, not your average beer, in a way imagine someone made beer out of a smoothie and made it bit more sour. Very interesting do give it a try!
3.4 0,33 l bottle from Biervana amber, hazy, frothy - minimal white foam, barnyard, basement aromas, fruity, light sweetness, lightly bitter, heavily sour, medium body, thin feel, lively, long finish,
1.7 Right, there is pushing the envelope and just fucking about for the sake of it. This falls firmly into the latter category
3.8 It is a beautiful brassy gold pour. A wild fruity aroma, I get the pink pepper, passion fruit, passion fruit and mild hibiscus. The taste is tart bready fruits and bitter, very interesting with a melon rind note. This is a pretty wild beer that is quite fun., I guess I downed it fast as I didn’t pick up on too much of that vegetal character.
3.5 Bottle from KBL. Funky acid nose, hibiscus, passion fruit, some vinegar, and a bit of veggie that got stronger as it opened up. Dark gold, cloudy, with lace and lots of carbonation. Huge passion fruit flavor at first, raspberry, rhubarb. Nicely tart. Light and a bit thin, spicy, interesting and fun, though the flavor seem to turn quite vegetal as it warmed, which really turned me off.
4.1 330ml Bottle. The nose is a very floral but slightly tangy aroma. Rather fizzy but the palate is very full of fruits slight spice and that enjoyable sour finish. Exceptional beer worthy of the brewers who collaborated together on it.
4.1 Pours a murky golden brown from the bottle with little to no head or lace. Aroma funky brett notes, a hint of herbal earth, almost elderflower, and fruity sweetness. Taste is more lactic than funky, with a hint of berries, but still the herbal notes. Minimal carbonation, the hibiscus and peppercorn come out nice, solid stuff.
3.9 33cl bottle. Pours a bright pinkish orange with a thin white head that disappears quite quickly. Smells of hibiscus, gooseberries, peppers, citrus. The taste is bitter and sour, with notes of pickles, dark fruit, wine, grapes, lemonade. Light bodied and refreshing.
