Profanity Stout is the first in the Williams Bros ’chapeau’ series, in which we celebrate the skills of amateur brewers whose beers we think are exceptoinal and should be made available to a wider audience. With Profanity Stout we doff our caps to Peter and Craig, the ’Balls to the Wall’ brewing duo, who developed this recipe as students on the brewing course at Edinburgh’s Heriot Watt University. The beer is a blend of rich coffee and intensely fruity hop aromas on a base of full velvety malty mouthfeel.

3.7Bottle. This is a nice thick and rich stout that has great viscosity. Worth trying.
3.7330 ml bottle,bb 08/2019.
Almost black.
Nose - coffee, citrus fruit, bit of wood and ash in the far background.
Taste - bittersweet, follows the nose pretty much. Bitter (not coffee) aftertaste.
It's IPA and stout crossover, not bad but not great though.
3.8Bottled @ Bishops Arms, Hornsgatan. Very dark brown/black, dense tanned head, rich lacing all around the glass. Chocolate, coffee and peat aroma. Medium bodied, wheat smooth mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pleasant roasted taste, coffee beans, chocolate, licorice and hints of vanilla. Dry, and roasted bitter finish. To me this is a great stout but not as much an imperial stout, either way, very drinkable and relaxed brew.
3.6How: Bottle.
Where: Pub Anchor, Stockholm.
Appearance: Dark brown colour with a tan head.
Aroma: Roasted malt, liquorice, chocolate, some dried fruit.
Body: Medium body, low to medium carbonation.
Flavour: Roasted malt, some dried fruit, some alcohol, caramel, liquorice.
3.1Bottle 330ml bought at faire. Surprising fruity and floral aroma, tune of alcohol. Great really velvet feel at palate. Taste also surprising, lot of flowers, some malts, sweet, coffee, no alcohol in feeling. Low bitterness.,
2.9There's an undeniability here to the fact this beer doesn't know what it wants to be. Appearance-wise, it's an obvious stout. The mouth feel also compliments this.
However, the palate is heavily hopped and fruity with burned and roasted flavours, acting like a mish-mash between IPA and Stout.
This combination seems to only bring out the worst aspects of both styles for me. Disappointing.
3.4Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is sweet, slight acidic, grape. Taste is slightly sweet, dark oak, slight sour grape, ending slightly acidic and bitter and dry. Bitterness lingers. medium bodied, medium carbonation. More bitter than many stouts, quite fruity, pretty nice!
3.6Aroma is rich and hoppy, with liquid chocolate, dark fruit jam, cake, roasted coffee notes. Taste is sweet but bitter and hoppy with cold coffee, brown bread, chocolate liqorice, and sticky, burnt sugar. Finish is dry and there’s a note of stale bitter coffee in there. Nice stout, albeit a bit too sweet.
4.0En god stout. Der er smag af lakrids i stor stil, og ikke alt for meget sødme oveni. Kun en enkelt som nydeøl, ellers bliver lakridsen for meget.
3.5The aroma has roasted malt, coffee and licorice. Black coloured beer with a medium sized, beige head. The taste is bitter and has little fruity sweetness, roasted malt, coffee and licorice. Nice one
3.7Bottled. The aroma has roast, coffee and licorice. Black coloured beer with a medium sized, beige head. The taste is light bitter and has little fruity sweetness, roast, coffee and licorice. Nice one.
3.9Coulée noire d’encre, mousse beige... However, job is done ! Bouteille 33cl, Boissons du Monde, Saint-Egrève.
3.8Pours black. Aroma is more varied than your typical stout - chocolate, perfume, floral, candy. Taste is chocolate, smooth balanced roast. A well balanced beer that has an innate complexity to it. Medium bodied. This was my final beer after having several 9+ %ABV Orkney stouts and this was by far the most enjoyable.
4.1330ml bottle. Pours jet black with a tan head. Nose is roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, black cherry and orange peel. A bit thin for the style and abv. Taste is good though, roasted malt, brown bread, treacle, coffee, dark chocolate, cherry and Christmas cake. Bitter at the end, with some orange peel. Tasty.
3.2Pours black. Roasted malt, chocolate, coffee aroma and flavor. The body is a bit too light for this style.
3.8Bottle. Pours deep black with good amount of beige foam. The foam lasts a bit in the glass. Nose full of coffee, liqorice, alcohol. Tastes coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and grassy hops. The alcohol is present, but I quite like it. Enjoyable.
2.7Pours black with a brown tinge little to no head. Nose is heavy on the booze, tinge of sweet caramel. Taste is bitter upfront peppery hops and thin mouthfeel. Balance is not there, may be an old beer but dissapointing.
4.1Black body, medium beige head.
Aroma of coffee, milk chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, cocoa, hoppy fruits. Flavours of coffee, cocoa, caramel, liquorice, alcohol fusel, dark cherries, medium bitter backbone. Long coffee bitter dry finish, slightly sweet. Full body, medium carbo.
3.7Look: dark brown, opaque, unstable dark head.
Aroma: berries, coffee, some sweet citruses.
Taste: dry, bitter, roasted.
Flavour: grassy, herbal hops, roasted notes, light molasses notes.
Good and balanced, hoppy and "black".
3.4Roasted malts, coffee, deep brown/black with a good and quite persistant tan head, medium body, law/medium carbonation, roasted malts and coffee, quite bitter and a bit watery...a good IS but i want more by a profanity.
3.4Nose of rose water like a box of Boozy chocolates. Turkish delight sweets and milk chocolate. Rich bitterness with mild texture. Soft hints of brandy. Good beer
3.9Bottle at home. Pours black colour with a beige head. Bitter espresso, chocolate, roasty malts. Extremely well balanced with a smooth dry finish. Very tasty.
3.1Ipanainen stöyt. humalainen, mutta liian perus luonteeltaan. Paksuutta ja omaleimaisuutta kiitos.
3.2A beer that’s okay, but could have been better. Color is really nice, deep black, absolutely no light coming through the glass, with a good, creamy head. Taste is full of coffee and that’s kind of all. Something is a bit sour too, but can’t put a name to it. Not a bad stout, but not to be remembered.
3.6Bottle at home. Pours opaque black with a small lasting tan head. Aroma is roasty, coffee slight dark chocolate. Taste is roasted malts, dark cocoa, slight coffee, long dry finish which came as a pleasant surprise. Best Williams Bros brew I’ve tried.
3.9330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Verksgata, Stavanger. BB date Nov. 2014. ABV is 7%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Low beige head. Nice roasty aroma with notes of chocolate, vanilla and coffee. Nice roasty flavour too, plenty of character without becoming too bitter. Notes of coffee, some fruit / prunes, chocolate and a hint of vanilla, moderate hops.
4.3bottle @ home
clear brown, coffee cream head
toffee, licorice, nuts, milk chocolade
very drinkable, burned wood, licorice, dark chocolate, cocoa bean
3.0Correcte. Beaucoup de torréfaction surtout sur la longueur, comme un mauvais café genre starbucks... Sinon pas horrible. Du chocolat très noir, un fond café.
3.9Ekstrakt: 17% wag.
Chmiele : Nelson Sauvin, First Gold (UK), Centennial, Amarillo.
Kolor : Na pierwszy rzut oka wydaje się całkowicie czarny. W rzeczywistości rubinowy z ineresującymi refleksami.
Piana: Gęsta jak dobrze ubita bita śmietana. Piana w kolorze beżowym o drobno oczkowej strukturze. Piana cieszy oko i zachęca do spożycia - najlepiej łyżeczką do lodów;)
Zapach: Głęboki, złożony.
W aromacie płynna czekolada, miód, karmel oraz kawa.
Na drugim planie cytrusowe nuty.
Smak: Bardzo rozbudowany.
Wysycenie: Niskie.
Podsumowanie:
Bardzo apetyczny Imperial Stout. Wyśmienity balans słodkiej bazy z przyjemną goryczką.
Wszystko wzorowo skompomowane.
Piwo jest aksamitne i treściwe.
Polecam!
