WinterCoat Cockney Imperial Stout

WinterCoat Cockney Imperial Stout

Cockney Imperial Stout was born at the request of Mike Wilson, publican and proprietor of Cockney Pub in Århus. Mike talked Niels Jørn into brewing a whole batch of a rich, dark, very strong stout exclusively for his pub. The stout went like wildfire, and 800 litres were sold from a single tap in the small pub in just 5 weeks! Rumors of this amazing stout spread to the rest of the country, convincing Niels that this smooth, black beer should be a constant in the WinterCoat selection. It, like many of WinterCoat's strong beers, goes down deceivingly smoothly.

3.9 Bottle: thanks to Fonefan. Big light airy to vast light brown head on top of a deep dark brown to black colored beer. Smell is a light smell with lots of chocolate, and hints of toasted malts and caramel. Taste roadted malts, caramel, hint of hops, bitter, dark fruits, prunes and chocolate. Soft silky turns to bitter, aftertaste of bitter, grass. Between watery and oily texture, medium to full body, low carbo and soft silky light dry mouthfeel. Nice beer.
3.8 Draugth at Valhal. Black with a medium beige head. Aroma and flavour of chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, coffee and with hints of fruit.
3.4 Cask @ Cockney pub, Århus. Pours black with small light brown head. Aroma of roested malt, chocolate, coffee. Taste is much like aroma with some caramel and light smoke added. Full body, low carbonation. Fairly easy drinking for that ABV, good. 220111
3.9 Rated in the spring 2010: Very nice smokey beer, like drinking a bonfire. Rough but good taste with a malty palate. Maybe a little more sweetness could make it perfect..
4.0 Beautyfull dark brown with a small light brown head. Aroma is roasted with a note of chocolate and deep malty. Flavor is balanced bitter and sweet, straight simpel with a roasted bitter finish. Good harmonic beer.
3.7 Rating #302, bottle from Fish n’ Beer Appearance of this beer is black with almost no head, but on the other hand there is yeast fragments in the beer, which is a plus in my book. Aroma is marked by different stout-aromas like chocolate, a bit smoke and some tar, but more fruity aromas as mandarines and strawberries are present too. Flavor has mostly chocolate and liquorice, and ends in a nice bittersweet finish with only light bitterness for an imperial stout, but very pleasant. Medium body, and very nice soft and oily mouthfeel. Absolutely a nice beer.
3.2 Cask conditioned@Lord Nelson, København. Abv 8.0%. A layer of tan bubbles over a near black body. Initial aroma of sour dark fruits. Then a scent of roasted malts and coffe. Taste has strong coffee and cocoa notes. Some salty licorice and burnt caramel, and notes of acidic fruits. Medium fullness. Low carbonation level, easy on the palate. Coffee and bitter chocolate in the fade. Straightforward with an acidic touch.
2.9 Bottle. 8% abv. Dark brown almost black body with a fluffy tan head. Sweet roasty aroma with light tobacco and caramel notes. Light chocolate. THe flavour is mainly roasty but the alcohol is rather profound. Caramel and light coffee notes. Roasted alcoholic finish. Not very good actually.
3.7 Relativly clear dark brown with a small light brown head. Aroma is nutty with a minor note of chocolate and raisin along with hard roasted malts. Flavor is medium bitter and medium sweet with a roasted bitter finish. Nice clean brew!
3.6 On tap at Mahars. Poured a very dark brown, not black. Aroma is nice and roasted, very clean and tasty beer, with a bit of a vinegary finish.
3.9 50 cl cask. Black body with big lasting creamy head. Flavour is roasted malt, coffee and chocolate.
3.7 At Gingermans nyc. A very smooth and approachable imperial stout. Smoky malts, chocolate and espresso act as the driving force behind this brew. Interestingly, this brew did not kick me in the face like many ImpSto’s have done before. Likely due to the low alcohol for the style and taming creamy body.
3.6 Draft. Pours dark brown with a lasting tan head. Roasty aroma, with an almost creamy sweetness. The flavor starts roasty, with some lighter sweet notes, and a smoky/burnt finish. Nice.
3.3 On tap at The Ginger Man Appearance: dark brown going into black, creamy tanned , light brown top , some lace noted.4+ Nose: lighter top , roasty dark malts , ripe fruity character followed. Flavor/Palate : rich , ripe fruits , sourness followed with smoky dark malts, chewy malted end. Dry roasty character at finish with ash smoky accents. Interesting but not great.
3.7 Hell its damn nice to pull off an Impy Stout rating of a beer I’ve never had at a Bar I’ve never been to. Good combo. Tap at Ginger Man in NYC. Pours black with a little itty bitty tan ring. Nose is swet, malty and makes you want to take that first sip. Taste is sweet, slick wow, with a lot of nice sweet chocolate. yummers....
3.4 Pours black with a cream head. Aroma is roasted barley, chocolate, coffee and light smoke. Flavour is roasted barley, chocolate, coffee and light smoke.
3.5 Bottle. Dark brown with huge brown head. Aroma hoppy, grassy and then some roasted malt Taste soft and mellow roasted malts, dark chocolate, a little hoppy finish.
2.2 Tap at Ginger Man. Aroma of diaper and a little chocolate. Flavor of roasted malt, tart fruits, very tart finish with some of that diaper. It would appear as though this were infected, perhaps slightly older than the beer in others’ ratings where sourness seems to be creeping in.
2.4 Tap Ginger Man. Pretty awful beer. Aroma is sour, flavor is sour. No real redeeming qualities
2.4 On tap at The Ginger Man. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is medicinal with some sweat and odd sour notes. Very off-putting....the flavor doesn’t get any better--sourness, still sweaty, acidic, and chalky. I didn’t really get any roasted notes. I imagine that the sourness in this beer was intentional which just didn’t work out well for it. Palate is boozy, thick, and medicinal. Yuck. 4/4/4/3/9 (2.4)
2.9 Sampled at the Bavarian Lodge, Lisle, IL. Poured a black/brown hue with a light tan, foamy head and clingy patches of lacing. The aroma was some roastiness with an off scent of a combo of wood, tannins, and smoke. A tart, almost vinous nature dominated the flavor. The alcohol seemed well hidden. Tried to be objective but didn’t hold up to other ISs that I’ve tried.
3.9 Black with a brownish head. Nice roasted aroma with loads of chocolate/cocoa. Starts out sweet, again chocolate-like, and then finishes nicely bitter. A very nice experience.
3.6 Draft at Rustico in Alexandria VA. Pours a deep dark black with a small brown head that dissipates. Aroma is dark roasted malts, with a touch of sweetness. Flavor is roasted coffee, malts, element of sweets and some smoke. Pretty well refined, smooth and easy to drink - alcohol content packs a punch but is not noticeable.
2.9 Cask at the Copenhagen beer festival. Poured black with a small brown head. Aroma consisted of dark roasted notes. Flavor was dark with roasted coffee flavor. Lacking something a quite conservative for me.
3.2 Black of color with a small white head. An aroma of liqurice and weak sweets. A flavor of liqurice and prunes.
3.4 Picked this bottle up in Denmark, Sept’ 08 Pours black with beige head, big roasted and burnt malts dominate the nose with just a slight element of sourness. Sweeter in the mouth than expected, but roasted malts again and some light smokiness, bit of coffee and liquorice.
3.5 500ml bottle (Fish and Beer)
Glassy jet black, brief head. Sweet dark fruits, including raspberry, in the aroma. Big fruit estery body. Sweet and aromatic. Anna says walnut. Goes down so easily for 8.4%.
4.1 Bottled (8% ABV). The body is blacka s coal with a medium sized and persistent and almost creamy brown head. Very nice appearence and so id the aroma that has a medium maltiness, with some roastiness and notes of coffee, chocolate and some berries and smoke. Complex nose, maybe slightly less powerful for the style, but far from weak. The flavour has a medium sweetness and you are hit by the roasted malts that are quite strong. Some smoke too and the usual notes of coffee, chocolate and licorice. Medium body and not much more, soft/average carbonation, medium/long finish with medium bitterness. Lightly alcoholic. Tasty and drinkable imperial stout.
3.5 Bottle. Black colour with medium creamy light brown mostly lasting head. Aroma is roasted malt. Sweet spicy flavor with notes of coffee.
3.3 Strong aroma, dark fruits mainly. after it warms up i also get coffee. dark brown, light brown head. flavor dark fruits, banana, coffee, some boose flavor that i disliked, but only when cold, was better when warmer. actually it does not taste entirely like a porter, more like an aged beer of some sort. or a mix. For an aged beer it is very very good.
