WinterCoat Double Hop

WinterCoat Double Hop

WinterCoat's Imperial IPA is light amber in color. The fruitiness from the ale yeast combines beautifully with the body of the malts and the feshness of the bops to create a very well-balanced, though very heavily hopped brew. Double Hop has a heady hop aroma without too much bitterness. The smooth taste belies its 8.5% alcohol content. This beer is dangerously pleasant to drink!

2.7 [5/12/12] Hand-pump draught sample at Ølfestival København 2012. Almost clear deep amber brownish color with a medium beige head. Aroma of malt, candies (some gummy bears) and some floral hops. Sweet candy-ish flavor, pretty malty, with a bit of honey and a somewhat bitter finish with a bit of hops. Not very DIPA-like, but kinda OK. Medium-bodied.
Pours an amber colour with a white head. Aroma of sweet bubblegum, caramel and some nuts. Flavour of sweet malts, lingonberries, caramel and some hops. Light bodied, soft carbonation and a long juicy finish with some alcohol. Juice without hops.
3.3 Draught @ Ølfestival Kobenhavn. Pours hazy golden color with medium head. Aroma of berries, mild hoppy fruits, grass and caramel. Flavour of mild sourish berries, fruits, bilberry juice and some caramel notes. A mildly hopped berry juice. 4515
3.0 Bottle. Deep golden colour with an off-white head. aroma is hop, malt, floral . Flavour is smoked, apricot, floral, hop, malt, citrus. Nice beer.
3.5 Pours a cloudy orange color with a big white head and lots of lacing. Nose of alcohol, citrus, and some spices. Medium and alcoholic mouthfeel. Flavor is a little tart and sour with lot of citrus and some bitterness. While decent, verall this is a lot like a raw American Barleywine and not worth in any way the $17,88 this 750 ml bottle set me back. But that is the fate of a beer ticker.
3.1 Amber color with a fine sized head. Lovley fruity hop aroma. Lemon flavor, little sour.
3.4 January 28, 2011 - on draught at Blue Monk. Pours hazy orange with an average fizzy white head. Strong aroma, like an american barleywine, alcohol, thick juicy malt, pungent resin/herbal bitterness, but a lot of lemon and citrus zest - more a winter brew. Taste follows - strong, very tart, the malt and bitterness take a backseat, quite strong alcohol. Average body, acidic and lively, a longish dry acidic finish - not really hoppy enough to be DIPA, but that’s just my take on it. Wasn’t really in the mood for sour this day, wanted HOPS.
2.1 Bottle.Pours cloudy yellow with a white head.Aroma of floral hops, malt, some sourness and some milky notes.Flavor is sweet with some bitterness and sourness.Medium body, average carbonation.Slightly off.
3.1 Bottle 500ml @ Hotel room, Radisson Blu Aarhus Pours hazy golden with a off-whit ehead. Aorma has notes of malt, pine, grassy and citrus hops. Taste is light to medium sweet, light sour and medium bitter. Body is medium, textire is oily, carbonation is soft.
1.6 Let this warm a bit out of the fridge. And drat, I think it might have turned. Poured with a slightly thick and creamy, cream to light tan head that slowly settled and some lace. Color is a clear medium amber. Aroma is yeast, funk, with just a slight bit of hop. Flavor is funk, sour sweet, chemical and basically undrinkable. Body is soft and full with good carbonation. Finish is too long even though it’s not that long.. I was looking forward to this. What a disappointment!
3.5 Bottle. Pours cloudy apricot. White head. Nose/taste of pineapple, peaches, hops and caramel malt. Mouth feel is creamed peaches - very creamy with a bitter finish. Medium body.
3.0 (Tap 15/6-2011) Large white head, amber color, slightly sour taste, no real bitterness. Weak DIPA.
3.8 Pizzeria Paradiso Dupont, DC 12oz ($4.50hh): Pours a yellow orange color with a white head. Aroma is of cheese and mushrooms and dirt (this is a good thing). I don’t think that most people who sampled this beer were seriously looking at the nuance present in this beer, because this beer was seriously dirty in the way a dub-step show is dirty, which people who listen to dub-step think is a good thing. In any case, in the taste there is plenty of hop bitterness and more earth. I didn’t quite get the almost smoke, but I got some of that tasty dirt and it was good. A unique beer worth drinking by one and all.
3.4 Tap @ the brewery ( DØE meeting ) Pours golden with a white head. Aroma of fresh floral and fruity hops. Taste is floral hops, grass, grapefruit, tangarines, melon. Medium body, soft carbonation. Easy drinkability. 150611
3.7 Draught at Copenhagen Beer Festival 2011. Black with a small beige head. Aroma and flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, caramel and hops.
3.6 Hazy orange with a white head. Aroma is sweet, caramel and moderate hoppy - grapefruit and grass. Flavor is medium sweet and rather bitter. Dry and bitter finish. 251107
3.3 CBF; sweet and hoppy aroma, golden, clear, white foam, lightly bitter, medium body, soft carbonation, long bitter finish.
3.3 From bottle, 10 CL. Amber with a reddish tint with a small white head. Light malt flavor with moderate hop. Notes of smoke, possibly error brew. Slightly sweet taste followed by a moderate hoppy taste and aftertaste
3.8 Bottle, shared with Mike. Orange amber with sediment tailings, huge gold-tinted head. Aroma is sweet with perfumey fruit, lychee and pear. Sweet candy-ish malts, lightly floral perfumey aromatics lead into a very bitter finish with hints of spice and yeast. A very nice change to try an IIPA with some Euro hop varieties.
3.3 Strange brew this one... Appearance: Nice orange/amber color with sizeable layer of white foamy head. Aroma: I’m clearly picking up a bit of yeasty funk... quite strange. Taste: DEFINITE and STRONG funky/sour flavor dominates. I’m not sure if this is infected or old (it was a gift), but it certainly tastes nothing like any other DIPA I’ve ever had... very odd. My girlfriend LOVES sours and she is thoroughly enjoying this one... Mouthffeel & Drinkability : tart flavor makes it a bit hard to drink for me, but the mouthfeel is nice - somewhat smooth & creamy.
3.5 Tap. Poured a orange color, small head. Aroma was grapefruit notes, hops. Flavor was hops, malts, notes of caramel, slightly tart finish. Another beer that hid the alcohol quite well all things considered.
2.9 Tap. Pours hazy orange with an average, creamy beige head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is average malt (cookie, caramel, toasted), heavy hops (floral, herbal, grassy), and average esters (apple/pear) with notes of sour grapes. Flavor is average malt (cookie, caramel, toasted), heavy hops (floral, herbal, grassy), and average esters (apple/pear) with notes of sour grapes. Full body, medium warmth, carbonation, and creaminess with a dry finish.
3.3 Location: Draft at Capital Ale House, 11/26/10 Aroma: The nose is caramel malts, fruit, some funky yeast, fruity belgian yeast, a little wood Appearance: It pours a hazy amber color with a wispy white head and some lace Flavor:The taste is malty/fruity sweetness, some spiciness and funk to it Palate: Medium bodied with a somewhat creamy feel to it, also a little sticky, medium carbonation Overall Impression: First off, this was not a Double IPA, but it was a decent beer. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t outstanding. It wasn’t worth what they charged for it either.
3.7 Labeled Winter Coat Double IPA on tap. Nose and taste sour IPA. Nose tart currants. Tart sweet in the mouth to hoppy goodness to pure tart. Interesting mix in the mouth. Tasted closer to a sour that a DIPA. Nice brew.
3.2 Way more sweet & thick than I was expecting. Aroma is very complex & tough to put a finger on. Thick, hazy amber pour w/not much head.
3.3 Orange-red, thin white cover. Celery caramel aroma, light spicy hops. Vegetal taste, hoppy, but cut by the carame and sweet malt.
3.4 Very interesting hard to describe beer... Pours syrupy with a deep dark murky amber color and strong retention head that initially fades quick but then lingers for a long time. Aroma of hop resin, slight grapefruit, and sour apple? Flavor is strong in sweet and bitter with a interesting sourness mixed into it. Full bodied with a thick sticky mouthfeel and syrupy finish
2.5 Pours a very hazy orange amber with frothy cream-tinged head. Aroma is very berry with nutty malts. Flavor is bready with almond flavor that offsets a sugary berry flavor. Body is creamy with medium carbonation.
3.3 Slow gusher. Huge coarse offwhite head. Amber body with intense carbonation. Fruity spicy Belgian yeast aroma with wood and lacquer notes. Dry-bitter wooden floral mineraly taste with earthy horse blanket notes. Light body. Intensely fizzy and somewhat harsh mouthfeel. Dry citric floral herbal aftertaste with ashy mineraly notes. A real challenge, this. Tastes like a double IPA with European hops and brett. More likely it’s just lightly infected. (0.5l bottle, Fish & Beer, Copenhagen.)
