4.0Bottle 75 cl. Dark black with almost no head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, alcohol. The taste is sweet with a fruitful undertone. The aftertaste aftertaste is bitter with chocolate hints and a glow of alcohol.
3.9Pours dark brown/black with minimal lacing. Initial aroma is cherry cognac and sweet figs.
3.3Another disappointment. This beer scored so high on ratebeer, but what I got was very sweet and phenolic in both Aroma and flavor.
3.8Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with a short tan head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruit, licorice and spices. Flavor was sweet, malty and fruity with raisins, licorice, molasses, chocolate, figs and dark fruit.
3.4Bottle. Pour is deep brown with no head and no carbonation. Notes of molasses, soy sauce, bitter chocolate, and dark caramel. Finish is very sweet but masks the alcohol decently.
3.6Under the ’Bink Grand Cru’ label. Pour at Shelton Brothers. Big clove and cinnamon aromas with dark chocolate and treacles. More of the same on the palate. Hides the booze fairly well, but definitely a big beer with a warming finish.
4.2Bottle. Very dark, almost black with light ruby reflexes, nice beige head. The beer is a mix of spicy, clove and fruity notes from Belgian notes and malty side - roasted malts, chocolate plus some dried fruits. Full bodied, moderate carbonation, finish is sweetish with spicy note. Alcohol noticeable but only in warming finish, nothing harsh. Great dark Belgian strong.
3.6Pours a dark brown almost black color with an alcohol soaked fruit aroma with a nice complex flavor. Taste is cherries, oak, chocolate, fig, and minor spice. A flavorful beer that is sipped rather than drank. Delicious!!
3.8On draft at The Sovereign. Pours black with a thick tan head. Aroma of toffee. Flavors of pit fruits and fruit cake. Big boozy finish.

4.0Pours dark chestnut brown with aroma of fig, cherry, and hint of spice. Sweet dark fruit flavor with spice and toffee. Very nice beer.
4.0Jan. ’16. A 0.75 l bottle at Känguruh, Vienna, vintage 2014. It poured very dark and hazy brown body with a small brown hued head. Served a bit too cold. Beautiful, very intense aroma of chocolate, cocoa, licorice, dried fruit and some spices like cloves. Alcohol. Flavor was sweet, alcoholic, maybe a bit too much of both. Pleasant sweet dark malt dominated by the chocolate and licorice included everything else listed in the aroma, too plus caramel and wood, while dried fruit was more pronounced. Full bodied, with a long, warming and sweet finish that followed the taste pretty much. A little bit too strong despite the complexity, but still a really nice Belgian.
3.8On tap it is a dark amber color with a small head. The nose has dark fruits, licorice and spice. Taste has more dark fruits, alcohol, figs and some a little bite on the finish. Good beer.
4.3750ml bottle shared @Mad for Beer (Rome). Pours brown/reddish with a little but persistent off-white head. Aroma is rich and powerful, dried fruits, oak, cherry, light chocolate, oxidation. Flavour is complex, medium to heavy sweet with a good bitter end, alcohol. Full body, medium carbonation. Amazing.
3.52011 bottle. Sarphati Oude Olie. Flat, medium brown. The aroma is oxidized toffee, choc, molasses, wood...but oxidized in a way that seems rounded. Quite sweet, with a nice sticky character. There’s a sticky molasses character, with a bit of boozy woodiness in the finish. The sweetness really mellows this out.
3.7Bottle - Vintage 2011 - Booze, molasses and soy sauce. After some time cocoa come out. Deep brown. Soy, tootsie roll and a light booze finish. Old, but decent.
3.5Bottle of "Sarphati Grand Cru Oud Olie," at least 5 years old. Pours a deep brown/black colour with no head. Minimal carbonation. Bit of soy on the aroma, and toasty chocolate notes. Tastes rich but oxidized, with a slightly sweet finish. A very cool bottle, thanks fiulijn.
3.4Shared bottle, pours dark brown with fast falling beige head. Aroma of candy, caramel, dried fruits and milk chocolate. Extremly sweet taste with a touch of bitterness in the finish. Good beer but to sweet for me.
4.1750 ml bottle of "Bink’s Grand Cru" served in a Porter Bar goblet. A wire bound synthetic ’cork’ is way too hard to remove! Thankfully, the beer was well worth the effort.
Pours dark brown; opaque in the glass but dark ruby highlights at the edges. Weak head.
Aroma: a mix of dark dried fruits including cherries and some pleasant, mild alcohol esters. Hints of chocolate that are more subtle in flavor.
Feel: a soft, full body with light carbonation, some warming alcohol. A bit syrupy.
Flavor: rich and complex. Just a touch sweeter and more alcohol laden than I’d prefer. Loaded with raisins and other dark dried fruit flavors. Faint spicing. Good balance other than being slightly over sweet.
Overall: This is a fine sipping Belgian ale, best served fairly warm/ Admirably the high ABV is partially hidden.
3.7Winterkoninkske Grand Cru 13%
750ml from Ohtsuki, shared at a work party. Dark brown with a tan head. The aroma is nutty, chocolate and fruity. Full bodied and smooth. The taste is red berries, fudge and Malts with a light warmth. Very nice stuff.
3.7Backlog. 2010 bottle ->mini snifter from Churchkey Vintage Vault event. Labeled as "Bink Grand Cru." Dark brown with bare head. Dark fruit, earth, roasted malt, hints of ash. Tasty.
4.3Draught at Akkurat 15/12-15.
Big sweet and roasted mix of chocolate, dark bread, raisin and plum with warming alcohol. Smooth and fairly drinkable considering the ABV. Like a big fat belgian imperial stout. Didn’t "dissect" it too much, but it was damn tasty.
4.2From notes (9/5/2014 at Ebenezers in Maine). Man this is a complex beer. It artfully combines flavors of plums, candy, Christmas pudding, biscuits and more from the malts with fruity and spicy esters from the yeast. It’s big but the alcohol is never overpowering or too present. Great beer to sip at the end of the night with friends, and one of the best I’ve ever had from Belgium.
4.728/11/2015 - 15cl sample, last beer @WBF2015, Bierhalle Deconinck Vichte.
Dark brown with nice head. Mindblowing nose and taste, would even say a bit overdone. Definetly a beer too end with. Dark malts, chocolate, licorice, dark fruits, some wood, sweetness, some coffee, nice thick mouthfeel. WOW.
3.6draft poured in small tulip glass. poured a medium to dark brown color small wispy head and little to no carbonation. aroma strong and deep of dark fruits plums and raisins mostly slightly sweet malt booze hidden well. the flavors come out soft and subtle nothing overpowering quite smooth and flavorful a true sipper that is very good.
3.9Sample from 2010 bottle during the 10th Annual Day Before Labor Day Party on 09/06/2015. The beer pours a dark brown-black color with a medium thick tan head that recedes gradually. Small patches of lace. Aroma of malt, dark fruits and yeast. Full-bodied with flavors of malt, earthy yeast, berries and figs. The finish is fruity dates and plums in the aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
4.0Draught at The Beer Trappe. Dark plum raisin ale with some great rich flavors. Very smooth. Huge beer.
4.0Ooh, this is good. Pours very dark amber brown with minimal head. Aromas are roasty, dark dried fruits, raisins, like a good quadrupel but maybe a little fruitier than average. Flavors are really nice and constantly evolving. Starts with a pleasant roastiness and sweetness, into slight fruity notes and sourness, then a really long finish with a bit of bitter chocolate.
0.5Raisin aroma and the booze almost pours up the nose. Rich red brown almost opaque. Thick on the tongue. Caramel that’s a little burnt and the raisin is now prune and rum in flavor. Glad it’s only an 8oz pour since you feel the bite. Tap
3.8750, corked, bailed, and foiled. Pours a heavy dark ebony with a loose and creamy dark tan head that goes away. Big smoky dark complex nose, lots of dark pitted tree fruit but in a fleshy way rather than a sweet way. Creamy thick body with soft carb. Smoky, fruity, slightly tangy mid palate, showing sweet campfire and some tangy fruit notes. Long earthy fruity finish. Very interesting.
