2.8 Bottle from Wegman’s. Copper pour with no head. Apple, honey cinnamon in the nose. Tastes of apple, cinnamon, smooth flavor, some late tartness. Earlier Rating: 9/30/2008 Total Score: 3 Bottle from Capone’s. Pours golden straw with 1-finger off-white head. Nose is champagny yeast, mild oaky and earthy apples. Tastes dry, apply, with champagny yeasty and chardonnay notes and a subtle oaky quality. Earlier Rating: 6/2/2004 Total Score: 3.5 Copper colored, with aroma of apples and some red wine. I do taste the oak barrel flavor somewhat, and I like this cider.
2.8 Squat, 12oz bottle, average label. Tawny, light, clear cider. Notes of vanilla and wood, green leaves, slightly astringent cider in the aroma. Winey/whiskey notes from the barrels over sweetish cider. Minor vinegar notes all over. ABC Liquors, Bull Run. Earlier Rating: 11/20/2008 Total Score: 2.6 White grape juice aroma, with some rotten chemical/floral tones. Green bottle, twistoff. Clear, the color of tawny port. Sweet, very little apple astringency. Cooked apple and floral flavors. Pretty tasty, but disappointing as a hard cider. Glassy mouthfeel, only breaks effervescent at the very end. This would make a great poultry or pork infusion/marinade. Earlier Rating: 9/9/2002 Total Score: 3 Acetic nose and flavor. Moderately sweet. Good non-lingering palate and mouthfeel. Dings on appearance for the green bottle and the twist-off.
3.4 scary smooth...very sweet....my wife really enjoys...yum ..............................
3.0 (bottle - 12 oz) Orange pour with a thin white head. Sweet apples and light oak notes. The usual woodchuck sweetness is toned down by the barrel aging. Nice mild vanilla near the end. Earlier Rating: 12/26/2008 Total Score: 3.3 (bottle - 12 oz) Amber pour with a very thin head. Aroma is tart and a little sweet with some sweetness from the oak. The oak adds a lighter sweetness to the otherwise very sweet cider and really brings out the tartness of the apples. Finishes crisp and dry. Reminds me of the Dark and Dry which I really liked.
4.0 Aroma is apples/apple skin, fruit and a small hint of mint. The flavor is apples, light caramel/toffee, mild/medium sweetness and a long and tart finish. Earlier Rating: 4/2/2011 Total Score: 3.3 Mild apple juice in the flavor, slightly dry. Its not bad, but it does make me wonder how some of the best rated in this style compare to this.
4.0 Bottle at home, from the deli. The aroma is oak, whiskey, candy corns. Good carbonation for a complex cider like this. Flavor of vanilla, oak, tart apples, butterscotch, tobacco. This is oakier than some of their other barrel aged offerings. Crisp apple finish. Very nice. Earlier Rating: 3/23/2014 Total Score: 3.4 Bottle at home. Aroma of tart apples and faint whiskey oaky notes. The flavor is sweet - tart with ample oak and vanilla. Finishes tart and perfumey. Undercarbonated.
3.1 A dark amber cider with aroma of sweet apple jam, light apple acidity, pleasant. In mouth, a nice little cider with sweet apple juice character, faint woody notes, looses points for not tasting as you would expect. OK.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a medium amber, with a brown tinge. Aroma is fairly basic apple cider, but with hints of vanilla. Flavor is sweet apples, citrus, hints of vanilla and oak. Nice, a bit sweet as usual for this brewer, but as usual, easy to drink, come complexity, enjoyable. Worth picking some up every batch. Earlier Rating: 11/1/2013 Total Score: 3.8 Bottle. This is the Winter Cider...not sure why the name is wrong here. Mostly typical cider notes for this, but less sweet than many from this brewer. Nicely balanced. Only very subtle hints of barrel notes, but I suspect the barrel aging mellowed it. Overall, I like this, and think it’s one of their better ones, and now a favorite of mine. I will buy this again.
3.3 Bottle. Poured clear amber color with a minimal white head that diminished slowly with little lacing. Moderate aroma of tart green apple and vanilla wood. Medium body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet apple flavor with a medium vanilla sweet apple finish of moderate duration. My expectations were met.
3.3 Clear amber pour with a thin ring of bubbles. Nice sweet and tart apple aroma with oak and vanilla. Taste follows with a nice tartness and vanilla sweetness. Light medium body. Pretty enjoyable.
3.1 Bottle. Wood and apple juice aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Oak and apple juice flavor.
3.1 Tap. Pours a transparent amber with a ring of off white. Aroma and taste of fruit Ann’s not much else. Tastes almost a little flat.
3.1 "pretty nice cider. The oak comes through the bittersweet apple juuust enough to notice. Nice fruity aroma and lasting finish."
3.5 Reviewed from notes. I poured this into a pint glass and a wine glass. The appearance was actually the same in both: yellow to hazy orange color with a one finger white bubbly head that died pretty quickly. There wasn’t any lacing. The smell had some sweet and tart apple notes, and honestly, there’s a decent oakiness in there as well. I even got a light vanilla in there. The taste took those previously mentioned flavors and gave it the sweet and the tart and a light woodiness. On the palate, well, the harshness is there, but I expected that, still it seemed as it warmed, the harshness dissipated a bit and became a bit softer. Overall, hey, number two cider from Woodchuck I could do again.
3.3 Of the apple flavored soda pop ciders I’ve tried this is certainly one of the better ones. It has a little bit more to it than just sweet and tart apple notes. Specifically, it has a great deal of oak character. It pours slightly darker than apple juice in the glass w/ no head. It nose is sweet apple cider w/ a hint of spices. The oak character begins to take over once you taste it. It is sweet and apply to be sure but there it is punctiated by a bit woodiness and a ton of vanilla. The flavor combination works well and while it is perhaps not the most subtle use of oak, it does at least add something to seperate this out from a million other things in the same vein.
3.6 Bottle purchased at Kroger. Clear gold to amber pour with a thin white head. Aroma of apple slight caramel and slight vanilla. Sweet apple and caramel flavor with oak and spice before a slightly tart finish.
2.8 Ok cidre, 355ml bottle, sweeter apple flavor, lots of vanilla overtones, flat mouthfeel.
2.8 12 oz bottle from Evergreen Discount. Light amber and clear with a fizzy, dissipating head. Aroma of mostly apples with notes of earth, wood, champagne and vanilla. Similar flavor, sweet and crisp with a light spice. Light body, crisp and tingly with carbonation and light tart finish.
3.2 Bottled as ’Winter’. Nose is simple sweet apple with medium tartness, pours clear orange with avg carb and a vanished head. Taste sweet and midly puckering in its tartness, has some vinous qualities with measured stillness, very faintly woody but the latter adds significant roundness as it swirls about the light alcohol. Light-medium body with a lightly tannic, wine-like aftertaste. May well be the most interesting of the Woodchuck ciders.
3.1 Pours a clear light brown with no head. Aroma of apples and oak. Flavor of tart apples, wood, vanilla and slight alcohol.
4.0 Pours a hazy honey-golden, not much head but this is cider. Strong aroma is very apply, no surprise, but very much of fresh apples, sweet and a little sour plus an alcohol kick. Fresh apple flavor has more sweetness than sourness and a subtle alcohol nip. Firm, fizzy texture leaves a nice sour apple finish. Chuck on down today.
3.1 2oz sample at International Great Beer Expo (Meadowlands). Pours a fizzy deep golden color. Aroma of sweet apples, oak, and sugar. Taste of sweet and sour apples, oak, and bourbon?
3.0 12 ounce bottle. Pours a somewhat cloudy reddish gold with hardly a head. Aroma of apples and spice. Taste is apples, spice, and a touch of wood. Pretty good.
2.3 Decent winter cider. Smells funky but all cider does to me. A little earthy compared to normal cider. Not fruity.
3.3 12oz bottle pours a clear yellow golden color with a fizzy white head that fades and leaves no lacing. Smells of apples and oak. Tastes of the same things in the smell with a hint of vanilla in the finish. Mouthfeel is watery ans creamy with decent carbonation and a dry finish. Great cider, I like the use of oak ageing. It made it more unique than most of the other ciders I’ve had. Would definitely this again.
3.0 Really great cider. Not too sweet but great apple taste. Not bitter but tasteful and nice.
3.5 On tap at Sugar Maple. Hazed apricot with a thin white head. Aroma is apple cider with some notes of oak, vanilla and mild funk. Taste of cinnamon, apple, oak and mild caramel with a dry and tart finish.
3.5 On draught at Third Annual St. Johns Winter Beer Festival. Listed as Winter Cider. Amber color. Sweet apple with some oak notes in the aroma. Taste is spiced apple cider with some woodsy notes.
3.4 bottle. Golden with minimal head. Big sweet apple flavor with some slight vanilla and light wood. Light tartness. Pretty nice.
3.4 12oz bottle. Pours amber with spare white head. Smoky amber aroma. Touch of vanilla to go with the apple flavor. I enjoyed this.
