Woodfordes Nelson's Revenge

Woodfordes Nelson's Revenge

Cask: Regular. Also Bottle Conditioned.

Originally the house beer for Limes Hotel in Fakenham.

Ingredients: Maris Otter; Crystal malt; Goldings hops.

A full-bodied pale amber beer with the rich flavour of Dundee cake. Sultana fruitiness is balanced by a hoppy bitterness, to give a full, but light feel. The finish continues to develop into a warm, mellow glow

T: 0,5l bottle, malty with some tone of citrus, earthiness hops, very mild bitterness, biscuits/toffee, caramel, dried fruits, raisin sweetness, medium body, good carbonated, a good beer.
3.0 Nice lasting off white head chestnut in colour burry and earthy perfect autumnal bitter. Bottle at home from m and s
2.8 500 ml bottle as “Marks & Spencer Norfolk Bitter” bought at M&S in iSquare, Tsim Sha Tsui. Clear amber copper colour with a nob of yeast sediments; Half finger head and crumpety off-white foam which lasts for 2 minutes; Very good sticky lacing and fizzy carbonation; Fragrant aroma of Ale malt, with strong caramel, toffee, strong citrus with light grapefruits scent, floral, strong molasses, yeast, lemon peels and light grass; Close to medium sweet taste of fairly light Ale malt, with strong grains, thin grapefruits, caramel, sugar, yeast, strong lemon, quite strong bitter hops and strong grass; Close to light body, Slick palate; Mouth Feel is strong Ale maltyness in a watery background. Very strong citrusy hops mixed and caramel dominates. Grainy taste is slightly annoying, and pretty sweet as well. Very lemony hops to round. Hmmm… Hoppiness is strong citrus, floral, sweetness, lemon peels and light grass in nose. Light grapefruits, strong lemon, and strong fresh grass in taste; Bitterness is quite strong for a lasting, astringent bitter-sweet finish; Quite fry after taste; Fruity sweet and bitter to mouth. Comments: This one has all sorts of strong tastes pulling in different direction - citrusy hops, sweetness and caramel malts - the result is not cohesive and quite unbalanced. Not that good as a strong Bitter.
3.2 Its a very nice every day bitter... slight citrusy tone to it. medium bodies and averagely carbonated. Very pleasant to drink
3.0 Cask in the Ship, Dunwich, Suffolk. Amber with a fading off white head. Toasty aroma. The flavour is toast too with a little citrus. Quite a nice bitter.

3.1 500 ml bottle as M&S Norfolk Bitter. (Marks & Spencer) London, England. Clear amber colour with a small white head. Citrus hops, mild bitter notes and sweetish maltiness in the aroma. The flavour is mild citrus hops, woody dryness, mild sweetness and malt. Not the worst.
3.3 Cask at the Alma, Cambridge. Copper brown, a bit of beige head. The pint has a reasonable amount of natural carbonation. Raisin, biscuity aroma: strong tea, malt. Sweet fruity faste with a bitter finish. Tiny hint of sourness at the very end. Good.

3.0 Aroma average. Appearance good taste bready malt with sultanas. Nice. Average on palate. Must say that I am a little disappointed with this one but given chance will try again. Bit average. Just okay.
3.6 bread, toast, earthy aromas from a golden body no real head, tastes burnt with a hint of pepper and smokey chocolate in the aftertaste.
3.0 Bottle 50cl. as Bottle Conditioned Norfolk Bitter (from M&S Amsterdam). Clear amber brown color, one finger frothy off-white head, mostly diminishing to a thin layer, some lacing; aroma sweet malts, dried fruits (raisins, dates), basement, light caramel, wet hay; taste moderate sweetbitter, bit burned sugar, light citrus notes; light to medium body, oily texture, bit thin mouthfeel, soft carbonation; mild bitter finish, toasted, earthy notes, too much roastiness in the aftertaste. Strange brew.
3.2 Purchased in a 50cl bottle as Marks & Spencer’s Norfolk Bitter. Pours very clear with a deep bronze colour and gentle white head. Not much aroma, but the taste starts slightly sweet with a hint of raisins and sultanas and ends with a full Goldings taste. there is a fruity hop flavour but without any strong bitterness. A pleasant bitter, fruity and light without being watery. A well-made beer.

3.4 Pint at JDW in Chancery Lane. A: Bronze, clear, small white head, with moderate retention and decent lacing. S: Earthy Fuggles type hop. T: Sweat wheat, with a bitter slightly off fruity finish. M: Low to moderate carbonation, smooth texture, body light enough. O: A beer which fell between two stools, too strong to session, but lacked the character of some others with lower ABV.
