3.2 Soft mild beginning. Easy to drink, soft and mild. Neutral grainy, moderate bitter with a grainy caramel bitter finish.
3.2 50cl bottle. A clear dark golden beer with a off-white head. Aroma of mild citrusy hops, spices and caramel. Taste of caramelized malt, citrus hops, spices, moderate bitterness.
3.4 500ml bottle from Waitrose, Epsom. Pours clear golden amber with a white head. Aroma of malt and biscuit. Similar taste. Mild bitter finish.
2.9 500ml bottle from Beers of Europe (£2.99): An incredibly clear light copper amber with a 1cm, foamy head that's white & covers the surface with a little more build up on the circumference. The nose is mainly earthy malts, English hops & biscuit but its quite basic & bland. The taste is the same, or perhaps marginally better with biscuit malts & earthy hops, some subtle caramel & bread flavours on top of a medium body that is softly carbonated & fairly smooth but definitely unexciting.
3.0 Pint enjoyed in June 2003. Typical session bitter: lightish amber, white head. Balance of caramel malt and floral hops, fruity, with a dry finish.
3.1 Bottle - light amber, medium white head. Ok malty aroma. Medium carbonation. Ok mouthfeel. Pleasant mild caramel, slight fruity tasting - ok finish. Standard bitter.
3.0 Historical tick which I am adding as a rate so that I can see the impact it has on my stats. 500 Beers To Try Before You Die. At the Pickerel (?) in Cambridge. Ditch water.
2.9 500ml bottle. Amber colour, white head disappeared in seconds. Bready malt, metallic, watery, light dried fruit, light caramel. Another pretty basic bitter, not much to say about this one, solid enough for abv I guess
2.8 A clear light amber quaffable ale with notes of light fruits Found at Wetherspoons in bury ST Edmunds
3.0 Cask at The Moon Under Water (JDW), Watford on 03/10/2007. It’s a dependable bitter, getting on to more golden ale. Very quaffable.
3.4 (30/10/19) Cask pint at Ye Olde Watling, London. Clear light amber with a thin head. Aroma of malts, light fruits, caramel, bread. Taste is more of the same. Light body. Not outstanding but well made. Quite an enjoyable low ABV bitter. Would I drink it again? Most likely yes.
3.2 Butelka. Dość ciemny ,miedziany kolor. Piana biała,obfita, opada powoli. Ciastka, ziarno,skórka chlebowa,skóra,tytoń, w tle nuty ziolowe. Spora goryczka na finiszu ,niskie wysycenie
2.9 A nice amber colour. Smells zesty but fails to inspire with taste
3.1 Nice, easy drinking.
3.3 500ml bottle from the brewery shop. A straightforward reliable and session-able amber ale. Tasty notes of fruit and hops keep it interesting and balance the bitterness.
2.6 From cask at The Refinery, Manchester, 21.01.18. Served too cold. Slightly hazy golden. Off-white head and lacing. Aroma and taste of grains, pale malt, mash, yeast and harsh bitterness.
3.2 Basic English bitter showcasing goldings hops. Hints of banana on tongue, bitter finish
2.9 500ml Bottles from Morrisons, Birtley and M&S, Metrocentre, Gateshead. Amber coloured with a thin white head. It has a malty, fruity and peppery hop flavour followed by a warming, smooth dried fruit and earthy finish. Pretty good.
2.7 Bottle at home. It poured well, with a good head. There was no real nose and the taste was some malt, bitter hops and an inoffensive mouthfeel. It was ok, but there was not much going on at all. Dare I say a bit bland?
2.8 Bottle. I used to love this on cask 20 years ago. The first few sips took me right back to the good old days. However after a while it just became a bit bland. Sorry old friend.
3.1 From cask. A fairly average bitter, quite light malts and a fairly clean bitter aftertaste. Just not my thing, I wish I didn't keep get drawn into being persuaded to try these types of beers
2.9 Cask. Amber gold with a steady white head. Nose is burnt sugar puffs and struck matches. More sulphur tastes in the mouth, like a smouldering fire. A little honeycomb and lemon. Like a little tasty firework.
2.4 Clear copper color with small white foam. Aromas, carame malts, light herbal hops with notes of honey (reminds of good lager). Palate, light body, thin texture, rather flat and dry finish. Taste, sweet-ish and bit dry of grassy/herbal hops, with touch of honey? Overall, plain simple and rather boring.
3.0 Cask at The Reginald Mitchell, Hanley (JDW) A clear pale amber colour with a frothy off white head. Aroma of biscuity malts, fruit esters, some apple, slight caramel and subtle spicy, earthy hops. Taste of biscuity malts, caramel, fruit, some apple, a hint of orange and slight spicy, earthy hops. Light bodied and soft carbonation. A dryish, slightly fruity, spicy, earthy hop bitterness in the finish. A quintessential British bitter, a pale malt base, some fruit and a dry, hoppy finish. Not in the best condition but otherwise decent.
3.4 Cask, quarterly ale, 1/2 pint, hand-pulled at Hengler’s Circus, Glasgow on 28 Jan 2017, fruity, apple, malty aroma, golden with a thin white head and patterned lacing, apple, toffee, resiny flavours, creamy.
3.2 Cask Pint in Lowestoft in Sept 2016 - Amber colour. Fruity. Medium sweet malts with flowery fruity hops. Good malt/hop balance. Bittersweet fruity finish. (2016-09)
3.1 Clear amber bitter, lively with a thick white head. Not much by way of aroma, good or bad. Just a light bitterness. Flavour has a bit of light malt, apple, some bitter hop. Quite a clean aftertaste. A bit of fruity hop. Nothing special but a crisp, refreshing bitter.
2.5 Pale pour, not much on the nose. Perhaps a dud bottle but overwhelming carbonation leading to an odd mouth feel. Taste is bitter but weak. Perhaps better on a baking hot day.
3.3 From cask at the Old Mariner, Woodbridge. Pours golden with a lasting bubbly white head. Aroma of light hop, floral and fruity notes. Moderate sweetness, light bitterness. Light body, slight sticky texture. A nice session bitter, especially served straight from cask.
