Worthington's White Shield

Worthington's White Shield

Bottle conditioned; occasionally on cask.

Production moved from White Shield brewery to William Worthington’s brewery in December 2010. Production moved to the main Coors brewery in Burton in 2012 to keep up with increasing demand.

Ingredients: Halcyon barley, from the northern part of Norfolk; Sugar; Northdown and Challenger hops - including a hop extract; and a two-strain yeast supplied by Bass.

"It has a clean, fresh flavour and full bodied, balanced bitterness." Michael Jackson.

An iconic India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed to the same recipe as 1830. Aromatic hops, toasted cereal notes and hints of smoke and spice kindle White Shield’s embracing nose, enhanced by fragrant fruity characters and an intricate top-note of freshly baked bread. With time to condition, William Worthington’s unique dual yeast works up a sharp sparkle, crafting a full luxurious mouth-feel that combines with warming hints of alcoholic liqueur and White Shield’s ever so subtle peppery character, to create an exquisite bittersweet finish.

3.8 Jakaaa aroma, jaka karbonizacija. Boja crvenkasta, pjena odlična i bogata. Svaka preporuka za pivo.
3.3 Tamna amber/narandzasta boja, bijela pjena srednje debljine, malo trajinija. Arome karamela, trave, citrusa i hmelja. Jake gorčine, dugog gorkog finiša. Uljane teksture, jake karbonizacije.
3.2 500ml bottle bought in Burton. Pours amber with a thin head. Nice malt and full bodied. Sweetish, mild hops, toffee, and bubblegum. Not enough hops to qualify as an IPA for me but still a drinkable beer that is bottle conditioned.
3.2 Bottle in W Cork. Red gold, clear, thing white head. Warm caramelized and mild hops. Very restrained
2.8 Brown Color with minimal Head. Malty aroma. For an IPA aroma and taste is quite flat. Very sweet with low bitterness.

3.5 2014 rating. Pours a huge foamy white head and leaves thick dirty lacing. Has a light amber coppery appearance. Aromas are fairly tame, a bit malty with some mild herbal hops. Flavours of earthy and herbal hops. Much sweeter than expected, but also not as hoppy as wanted. Pretty smooth mouthfeel and easy going down.
3.3 Aroma: Medium berries, Medium-light earthy. Light cherries. Appearance: Clear, copper body. Small, off-white head. Small to fine bubbles, Good retention. Flavour: Medium dark molasses, licorice, berries. Medium bitterness. Medium-light earthy. Dry finish with bitterness, licorice. Mouthfeel: Medium body. Medium carbonation. Overall: Amazing aroma, but the flavour of licorice/molasses is stronger than what I expect of the style. 500 ml bottle. 12C. English IPA
3.5 6-4-7-4-14 Bottle, eleven months before bbd. Pours clear golden, with a big, dense, creamy head. Aroma is roasted malts with bread, toffee and caramels, as well as earthy hops with marmalade and herbal notes. Medium body, with soft to average carbonation. Flavour is bitter hops with pine, orange peel, marmalade and herbs, as well as malts with cereals, caramels and honey. Lingering hoppy finish.
3.0 IPA, nenasilna, pitna, zelo primerna za vroče dni. Nekaj manj okusa in arome, a zato toliko bolj session. Če je cena ugodna, lahko poleti nadomesti Adnams Innovationa, ki pa ga, roko na srce, ne doseže.
4.5 Bottle 0.5. Caramel and malty aroma, medium white head. Slightly bitter finish. Great beer after all.
3.5 Frothy white head stayed well on a highly carbonated dark copper coloured body. Balanced bitter hops & malt aroma with red berries & tea. Medium bodied, effervescent on the palate and a crisp clean back. Bitter, floral, tangy tastes of red berries, cereal, tea & herbs with spicy & slightly peppery finish.
3.1 0,5l bottle. Clear dark copper color, medium white head.Aroma is caramel and malty with floral and earthy hops.Finish is nicely bitter and herbal. Quite nice ESB.
3.5 Enjoyed: Poured from a bottle into English pint glass. Appearance: Dark copper colour, with medium head. Aroma: Malt, caramel, hint of hops. Palate: Medium body; gentle carbonation. 3.3 Cask at The Blue Mugge, Leek. A clear amber colour with a medium white head. Aroma of bready malts, fruit, some caramel, slight toffee and subtle spicy, earthy hops. Taste of bready malts, fruit, caramel, slight toffee and subtle spicy, earthy hops. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. A bittersweet, fruit and spicy hop bitterness in the finish. A rich, malty premium bitter with a subtle English, spicy hop to it. Good.
3.0 Great example of english beer with some notes of caramel / fruit and a slight bitter robust flavour
3.2 Bottle – pours an almost clear amber colour with a medium sized foamy off white head. The aroma is toasty malt and cereal, caramel with fruity hop notes. Robust malty taste, caramel, a little coffee and bitter hop flavours with a bit of spice in a long bitter finish.
4.2 Pours a clear, dark copper colour with thin white head. Aromas of toffee, bananas, some spice and rich alcohol. Taste is bitter-sweet; hop bitterness dominates but sits beneath a wonderful blend of malt sweetness, fruitiness, toffee, hint of spice and slightly warming alcohol. Great beer - nice to be able to enjoy an original IPA.
3.0 Lys brun klar med fingerhøyt beige skum. Maltig lukt, maltekstrakt, karamell og noe sitrus. Middels fylde og bitterhet. Brent karamell, kandis og noe mørk frukt.

3.0 Bottle 50cl. Big white head. Light golden amber color. Very good carbonation. Aroma is leaves, berries, english hops, hint of cherry candy. Bitter taste with herbs
2.5 First time try this beer. Bottled from Kaufland. I like IPA,but this is not good IPA ! 0,5 L bottle. Visualy very good bottle. Good red color, but not a good taste. To much etil alcohol in the beer killing hop taste, sorry. Don’t like it. Piva je precjenjena, definitivno. Previše se osjeti alkohol i skoro da okus etanola ubija malo hmelja što su stavili....Jednom probao i nikad više...
3.5 bright golden pale color, with a nice white head, and a good carbonation.. quite soft in mouth
3.8 Loved this tasty without any standout flavours good balance of sweet malt and herby hop all round winner.
3.3 2016 catch up - A good "English" IPA. A heavy bitterness, a good colour and a nice refreshing mouthfeel. This is a very good beer and quite surprisngly sessionable.
