Wychwood Scarecrow (Bottle)

Wychwood Scarecrow (Bottle)

Bottle: pasteurised.

Previously sold as Circle Master in the UK.

Traditionally craft brewed in Oxfordshire using organically grown English Barley Malt and Organic Target Hops.

Scarecrow is a wonderfully refreshing Golden Ale evoking lazy, hazy days of summer in golden meadows & ripe barleyfields. A winning combination of tart citric fruit flavours perfectly balanced by a rich biscuity maltiness and rounded off with a spicy bittersweet finish.

2.7 Bottle, 500 ml. Pours cloudy orange, small white head. Malty, some caramel, some vague fruit, sweetish. Soft carbonation. Light bodied.
3.0 Not a big fan of ESB, but I thought this one wasn't so bad. Still very disappointed overall in this special Christmas 4-pack.
2.9 Bottle - Light skunky but sweet pale malts. Clear copper with a small white head. Sweet, light toffee and butterscotch with a touch of bitterness.
3.5 Pours a clear deep golden coloration with a medium, fothy head. Smells of doughy, grainy malt with a hint of citrus and hay. Taste follows the nose, being dominated by sweet, doughy, grainy malt and just a touch of citrus hops and hay, as well as the merest hint of honey, fruity yeast esters: apple skin and a very light mineral note. Finishes with a light bitterness and some doughy malt, fruity esters and a light mineral note lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium body and medium/strong carbonation. A perfectly pleasant English Pale Ale that's heavy on the malts, but still with a good balance of hops and mild yeast esters, giving this a very resfreshing quality. Unremarkable, maybe, but but perfectly pleasant and quaffable.

2.4 Pours yellow gold from the bottle. Thin white frothy head. Aroma is caramel, grains. Taste is sweet up front. A mild, grainy bittersweet arises at the finish. A bit rough and uneven. Body is light to medium. Not much on its own but does well with food. Finished the second half of the glass with smoked Schinken, which it complemented very nicely.
2.4 From Mar 2006 Poured from 500ml bottle(room temp) medium gold with a fairly large head of foam that dissipated slowly, leaving a fine layer. The smell when I opened the bottle had an initial air of skunkiness but that settled down quickly leaving a kind of malty nose with some nutty notes. The taste has some malt up front but then, a rather citrusy hoppy bitter flavour moves in and it's a bit harsh on the tongue. The finish also has that harsh bitterness to it..hmm...maybe I'm not a fan of Target hops(as per label). Bottom line: I like a lot of UK brews and appreciate the fact that they can make a flavourful beer with rather low abv %s but..this is one that I won't make a habit of buying. I'll blame the hops. :^(
2.9 Clean light amber colour, small white head. Aroma of malt, grassy hops, some citrus and grain, biscuits. Dry sweet taste with light bitterness in finish. Thin body and average carbonation. Not bad.
2.3 Bottle. Amber body, white head, low retention. Metallic notes in the aroma, light maltiness... Taste... Metallic, stale dull fruity touches. Messy, just not enjoyable. Ew.
2.6 Beer with gold color, light body, medium bitterness, good volume of foam, average carbonized, (bought a 50cl bottle in Tesco supermarket @ OC Eden, Praha, CZ).
3.1 Copenhagen 11/3 2017. 50 cl bottle from Skjold Burne. A not very frightening Scarecrow standing among the Barley and Hops on the label. For some reason they are calling it a "Golden Pale Ale". Pours bubbly golden yellow with white head. Settles as 0,5 cm thick layer of foam. Aroma is not very intense. Sweet malts and cardboard with light notes of citrus. Medium carbonation and slightly thick palate. Flavor is medium sweet followed by dry bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with semi dry finish. A little thin but refreshing - and nicely bitter.
2.7 Bottle from Booths, Clitheroe. Golden with a thin head. Has a dry but understated pale ale texture. There’s some hops in nose, a hint of fruit in its taste, but it’s all understated once again.
4.7 From elcervecero. In Ikea’s pint glass. After dinner. Fresh, refreshing, zesty, with a moreish dry finish and very pleasant herbal bitterness/spicyness notes. One of Wychwood best offerings and with difference the best brew with the label "organic" Ive had.
2.1 Pours clear gold with a white head. Faint aroma of hops. Kind of bland tasting, has some hops and malts, but it just doesn’t deliver.
2.0 Bottle @ Tartu Kaubamaja. Pours clear golden with small white head, stays. Aroma: metalic, hay, sweetish, weak honey and maybe ginger. Taste: wet cardboard, sweetish, metalic, sour rotten hay. Thin body. Bad.
2.4 500ml Flasche. Dunkelgelbes Bier, cremiger Schaum. Es riecht nach Trauben und Getreide. Wenig Kohlensäure. Bitter im Antrunk. Wenig Körper. Gras und Kräuter.
2.8 Hazy golden color with moderate activity. Slightly creamy beige 1 finger head, lasting around 5 minutes, with moderate legs. Flavors of caramel, honey, barley, leafy hops. Lots of sugars but well balanced from some bitter grassy hops. Oily smooth almost full body with the perfect amount of crispy carbonation. Light finish, short lingering roasted malts with butterscotch and a dash of herbal spices. Slightly missing some freshness being a little flat and thick. Else the flavors are nice and the feel ends well with tongue coating honey. Overall decent quality craft.
3.7 Beautiful gold color with smell white head, watery palate and smooth citrusey taste
3.0 500ml bottle from Ken Warne, Darlington. Golden colour, white foam head leaving lacing and grain, citrus in the aroma. Taste is malty & grainy, with some biscuit, and fruity citric & grassy metallic hop bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry tangy bitter finish. Quite OK.
2.3 Pours golden clear with medium but quickly disappearing head. Aroma is malts, dust, herbs, basil. Taste is oily, malts, grainy, some sweetness, light bitter, biscuits, butter. Drinkable, but quite oily.
3.3 aka Circle Master. Pours a huge bubbly white foamy head. Appearance is slight dark golden colours. Has thick lacing. Malty aromas as well as some grassy/earthy and floral scents. Pretty faint hops. Flavours are of light roasted malts. Some citrus like flavours as well, more hoppy in taste than aromas. Has a creamy mouthfeel. Smoothness on the palate. Average retention and medium carbonation. Not too bad, easy drinking.
2.8 Bottle. Pours clear golden with a small white head. Nose has some spicy hops, grass, mild dishrag-y malt. Flavor is dry, hops, biscuity malt notes, some vague fruity sweetness. Malty finish, some dishrag in the background, malt and mild malty acidity. Nice malt character, not so nice dishrag. Drinkable though.
2.8 Bottle, 4.7%. Clear golden with small off-white head. Aroma is malt, caramel, hop and biscuit. Flavour is malt, caramel, little toasted, grass hop, biscuit, sweet and a little bitter.
3.3 Pours clear golden, big offwhite head, little lacing. Nose of light malts, some citrusy/spicy/herbal notes and a hint of honey. Tastes light sour and light sweet upfront, very light bitterness gets more prominent on finish. High carbonation, somewhat sticky finish. A light refreshing summer golden ale, somewhat overcarbonated.
2.5 How : bottle Appearance : clear golden with a small white head. Aroma : grass and some floral notes. Palate : light body, average carbonation.
3.2 Couleur dorée; mousse blanche; arômes et goût maltés, fruités et floraux; bière légèrement douce avec finale moyennement amère
2.6 500ml bottle. Pours a clear golden with a medium, creamy, short lived, off-white head that laces. Floral hop aroma with caramel malt, bread, grass and light citrus. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, biscuit, citrus and grass with a dry, mildly bitter, hoppy finish. Light body with a watery texture and soft carbonation.
2.6 Bottle at home. Clear golden with white head. Sweet malts, recycled paper, light lemonpeel, sugar, dustiness. Light sweet and moderate bitter, with faint acidic finishing note. Under medium body with light carbonation. Stale, steely, light tart finish with some sugarwater notes. Muted (dusty) feeling on the tongue.
