Xbeeriment Black Force One

Xbeeriment Black Force One

Editor’s note: From 2009 - 2012 this beer was brewed at Amager Bryghus. Starting from the summer of 2012 it will be brewed at Herslev Bryghus.

English: Our basic idea with this beer originated while making Xbeeriment Barack. When we’d done that we thought "What if we took it further?" So we decided to go for it and create an Imperial Stout made with 5 different kinds of malt including substantial amounts of peat smoked malt, roasted barley and 3 different hop varieties. We then added a 4th variety for dry hopping. Finally it was bottled unfiltered, bottle conditioned and left to mature in the bottle for 2 months before release. Serve at 12-14 degrees Celcius (53-57 degrees Fahrenheit).

3.8 Flaska från SB ca tre år gammal. En lite udda IS. Snygg.

4.1 500 ml bottle from Mile High Wine & Spirits, poured into a small snifter. Black appearance with a small tan head. The nose is roasted malt, light smoke, dark chocolate, light coffee, earth. Similar flavor, rich and robust, everything comes together nicely. Medium to full body with a soft, creamy feel. Pretty smooth and fun to drink. Very nice overall. Pairing: Radiohead - Black Star

3.8 Bottle, pours an opaque dark brown body with a thick brown head. Aroma of cocoa, roasted malts, and light espresso. Taste is similar with a long roasted malt finish and some hoppiness/booze.
3.7 Had this one cellared for about a year. Sorry DerWeg for sneaking in a rating after yours. Liked this one when I first tried it, so grabbed another and stuck in the basement. By this point you know it pours like a stout and looks like a stout. It has a nice nose full of espresso, some smokiness, lots of roasted malts. The taste is solid, with some of that smokiness that’s subtle and a little sweetness. Lots of roasted malts, there is that ashy, dusty flavour that seems to happen fairly often with stouts, which I don’t love, but overall well done.
3.8 Black, malty and fruity with sweet cocoa and espresso roast. Black dried fruit and malt sweetness. Smoke. Sticky malt and hay aroma. Slight grassy hops, tasty.
3.8 [6563-20140801] Bottle. Roasted grainy malt aroma has a chocolate base with a mild cherry note. Brown black body with a quick foamy tan head. Roasted malt and mild dark chocolate flavour. Full body. Delicious. (8/3/8/3/16) 3.8 Overheard: "Suck on my chocolate salty balls."
3.4 Backlog rating: Its black allright, nice creamy eggshell head Dark chocolate, chocolate sirup on whipped cream mouthfeel, getting a ice cream vibe here. Sweet finish with dry roast to balance. Chocolate retronasal.
4.1 Noire opaque. Beau collet brun et dense. Nez: chocolat. Grain. Café froid. Réglisse. Fumé. Bouche: riche. Très ronde. Sucré avec une bonne amertume. Torréfié à souhait. Fine chaleur d’alcool. Finale choco amer. Excellente.
3.7 Sehr dunkelbraunes/schwarzes Bier mit schöner bräunlichen Schaumkrone. Geruch röstmalzig, Kaffee, leicht rauchig, leicht alkoholisch. Geschmack scharf malzig, Kaffee, ordentliche Portion Hopfen, bitter, alkoholisch, Molasse und Schokolade im Abgang, leicht brennend alkoholisch.
3.6 Bouteille 500ml.
3.7 Very sweet and malty smell, chocolate, strong aroma. Black but with very little head, big watery bubbles that disappear quickly. Full bodied and, oily, chocolate, long aftertaste, no alcohol heat despite the 10.5, extremely smooth. Finish is balanced, beer is very balanced. Doesn’t punch you as hard as some imperials, but the balance and texture is excellent, a well crafted beer.
Excellente!
3.9 Tap@Taphouse, Copenhagen - black pour with good sized tan head. Dark roasted malty aroma and taste, caramel, big chocolate, some smoked peat notes, coffee, great mouthfeel, roasted bitter finish. Lovely brew!
4.1 On tap at Taphouse. Pitch black with a dense, tanned head. Roasted aroma with chocolate, coffee, herbal hops, subtle smoke and light honey. Taste is sweet. Full body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes dry and roasted with dark malts, coffee, chocolate and herbal hops. To bad Xbeeriment is out of business! -- rated with beerbasher/winphone
3.7 500ml bottle. Jet black colour with small to average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Roasty dark malty and herbal hoppy aroma has resemblance to typical Black IPA flavours, green onion notes, with the hop flavours quickly evaporating malty notes of dark chocolate predominate, "Schoko Toffees", chocolate truffle, hints of coffee. Taste is initially roasty dark malty, minimally sweet, hints of chocolate and treacle, the decline of chocolate flavours is inversely proportional to the rise of a peat note, accompanied by a complete fade out of sweetness and a flashing up of some herbal hop; dry, somehow ’crumbly’, peaty finish. Interesting course, but finally you cannot understand what has happened on the way to find yourself now ended up with that slightly unpleasant and unrelated peat taste in your mouth. How did you get there? Wormhole? Anyway, one fact can be stated: this would be a better beer if the tour was taken in opposite direction.
4.1 500ml bottle 8.4% ABV (as marked on bottle) King/Spadina LCBO Outlet (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) October 19, 2013 The beer pours a beautiful opaque black colour with a thin tan creamy head that lasted throughout. The aroma was roasted malt, dark chocolate, and coffee. The mouthfeel was medium full, with average carbonation. The flavour was a complex arrangement of dark chocolate, molasses, vanilla and coffee.
4.0 Bottle 0.5l from luttonm at Belgrade tasting Vol.3.Thank you Matt.Pour it dark color with small white head.Taste and aroma of chocolate, roasted coffee, roaste malt and plum.Perfection.
3.8 Tasting after party at Marko’s, in Belgrade. I brought this bottle from Gothenburg. Rich black-brown, tan foam. Smoke is mild, coffee, alc notes, fruity ester. Smoke adds to the bitterness and finishes dry. Good strong stout, dry and bitter with hints of interesting smoke. Very good imp stout.
4.0 Bottle at a private tasting in Belgrade. Pours oily black with a tan head which leaves a nice lacing on the glass. It smells of coffee, biscuits, smoked cheese. Mouth stays mild and drinkable with all the aroma notes present and balanced.
4.1 Purchased at the LCBO a year ago. Pours a real dark brown colour with red highlights. Big beige creamy-frothy head, long lasting with some good lacing. Beautiful peaty malt nose with dark fruits, roasted malts, licorice, sweet chocolate and mild coffee. Smooth mouthfeel, medium-bodied. The taste has lots of anise over the roasted malts, which is not showing as sweet as the nose gave out to be. Alcohol is very well-hidden behind the darkness. Complex and definitely worth trying. Wish I would of bought more to cellar.
3.7 bottle, bbq with kim in copenhagen. rich jet black with a minimal head; aroma of smoked chocolate, light pineyness; plenty of bitterness, traces of licorice, light citric touch. pretty good
3.3 2014-08-01. Black body with a small tan head. 3++ Aroma is moderately smokey, over a sweet dark malt core. Flavour is similar, moderate earthy smoke throughout, sweet dark malt core. 6+ Average plus bodied palate, soft carbonation. The smoke is relatively restrained which lets the richness of the dark malt shine through, but ultimately the smoke is still more than I personally like. Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto
3.9 Bottle from the LCBO. Dark ruby-brown with a small wisp of tan head that quickly disappears. Lush aroma of heavily roasted malt with a peaty character and dark bitter chocolate backnote. Medium bodied with minimal carbonation. Nice flavour combo - charred malt, licorice, peat smoke, bitter chocolate, bit of coffee. Warm finish, nicely bittered with noticeable but not overpowering alcohol. Very good.
4.0 Pours inky black with a small beige wisp. Aroma is roasted malts, smoke and a small deli meat. Taste is velvet mouthfeel, smoked malt but not overwhelming which allows me to enjoy this. Small hop bitterness in the end.
