Yards Jefferson's Golden Ale

Yards Jefferson's Golden Ale

This powerful and complex golden ale pays homage to Founding Father and fellow brewer, Thomas Jefferson. Yards Brewmaster, Tom Kehoe, worked closely with Philadelphia’s historic City Tavern to recreate this recipe, employing honey, rye, and wheat, just like the beer Jefferson made at Monticello.

3.5 12oz bottle @ Renaissance PHL. Aroma is sweet malt. Orangish amber color, little head, little lacing. Flavor is a little caramel, light malt, med bitterness. Med body. Overall not a bad beer. Kind of mainstream.
3.4 Pours rich golden color with white head. Aroma is grainy malt with herbal hops. Flavor is sweet malt and some grain, a hint of sweet hone and a slight bitter hop finish.
3.1 On tap. Pours a pale brown color with a bit of head. Mild maltiness. Noticeable alcohol. Some spiciness.
3.4 Bottle at home, while I pondered my faint memories of high school history classes. I like ambitious, slightly out-of-the-ordinary beers like this. It reminded me of a gruit, with a malty and slightly vegetal taste. Unusual, but I liked it.
3.6 Nice aroma, goes down smooth however little bit of a bitter aftertaste but does not drown out the flavor.
2.5 Poured from a bottle. Clear golden color, small white head. Medium corn syrup aroma. Medium body with a sweet syrup flavor and a slight bitter finish.
3.3 A subdued aroma of malt and grain, pours a clear Amber color without much of a head. A mild taste of sweet fruit and malt with a lighter body and a sweet fruit finish.
3.2 On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear orange gold with small off white head that lasts. The aroma is strong honey and grain. Medium mouth, yeast, sugar, honey, very sweet, good.
4.5 A-. Pours a clear golden color with white head. Good flavor, slightly dry finish
3.6 Pours an amber brown color with an off white head. Malty-slightly hoppy aroma, a hint of caramel. Bread-yeast flavor as well. Medium bodied, a little flat but overall alright.
3.8 Pours clear dark gold, fluffy off white head. Aroma is grainy, hints of honey. Taste of sweet malt, honey, cookie dough, maybe rye bread, dark fruit. Somewhat heavy mouthfeel.
3.5 I poured it from the bottle into a pint glass. It pours copper with a beige head and lacing. The aroma is tea, caramel, and grass. The taste is caramel, slight hop bitterness, earthy, herbal, and a hint of candy sweetness. It is pretty creamy. It packed a nice punch. This is pretty good.
3.3 Poured from a bottles at Costoberfest. Gold in color with a hint of honey.
2.9 Ale. トーマスジェファーソンのレシピらしい
3.5 Had in Philly at City Tavern from a guy dressed up as Thomas Jefferson. Pours from bottle an amber color. Some citrus, pine, alcohol. Solid brew.
3.8 Pours amber-orange with a one finger off white head which fades to just a little lacing. Aroma is of eye, citrus, pine, spicy hops, bready malts, sweet malts, and some toffee. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a semi bitter, slightly warming, medium-lonf finish. Overall, a pretty tasty American strong ale, especially considering the age of the recipe Yard’s used.
3.2 On tap at Castlebay Irish Pub. Amber body with nice head. Nose of malts, rye and some hops. Taste is rye, wheat and some hop. Not very good in my opinon. Too strong and full forced.
3.0 Pours attractive orange-amber with small off-white head that leaves small lacing. Aroma is straightforward: malt, rye, pine. A bit more complexity in the glass especially as it warms, with caramel, dough, floral hops, medium but not lingering bitterness. Higher ABV than expected from the light body. Interesting from an historical perspective, but closer to unobjectionable than exceptional.
3.1 Average appearance. Aroma is neutral.. a bit of malt. Taste is distinctive.. quite a bit of rye and alcohol is apparent. It is unique, different. Not bad.
3.4 So glad to be home with an ale that has great flavor. Rich amber color. Deep malt and bitters with a slight fruit taste. Go for this when you want an ale. Bottle.
3.0 This is s crisp and light beer when you are use to the imperial stouts and ipa’s. Enjoy the Belgian malts and crispness of this ale.

3.0 Pours a hazy amber gold. Has a faint malt, rye, and pine aroma. Has a malty taste with caramel, grains, and earthy flavors. A dry and bitter malt aftertaste.
3.7 light amber color; floral hop and toasted malt aroma with light caramel notes; a well balanced beer; floral hops; biscuit malt with caramel notes
3.8 Nice scent, good light brown appearance, taste was favorable, good on the palate, a good overall beer, I just had a first taste, will buy again in a six pack. This one I got at a package store, that let you fill your own six pack, with a choice of about 12 different brews.
3.3 On tap. Aroma of rye, malt, and slight resin hop. Pours deep red/brown with a nice white malty head. Taste is malt forward with some nice rye and earthy hop. Overall, tastes like a really good homebrew. The weakest of Yards’ presidents methinks.
3.0 Bottled. Poured I don’t know. Some malts with a bunch of weird berries. Not that great IMO.
3.4 Bottle to shaker glass. Pours amber golden, two finger head with some lacing. Aroma of is peppery with honey and caramel notes. Taste is complex yeasty sweet, only a slight spruce bitterness. Medium body, moderate carbonation, slightly sticky mouth feel. Finishes sweet with notes of caramel, yeast, apple, sour cherry, honey and slight alcohol. Good beer but I would prefer more hops but I’m not T J.
