3.3 From my father: pours near black with a small beige head. Aroma is brewed coffee and some chocolate... very particular coffee. Taste is somewhat sweet. Not bitter at all. Very smooth. Not watery but quite light. I was very surprised that I have never had this before. So it goes.
4.5 Pour: Black like a cup of strong coffee. Head was caramel amber like the foam from root beer. Nose: Roasted Malts, Coffee, Slight sweetness. Taste: Smoky hickory, chocolate, coffee, slight moleasses syrupy note. Some sweetness. Creamy. Mouthfeel: Light bodied, Few small soft bubbles. Overall: I would pair this with anything Cajun style, but you could even match it with Brie toasted almonds and French baguette. Nutty qualities as well as mushrooms would complement it as well.
3.3 Black pour, thin tan head. Next to no lacing. Mild roasty aroma. While the favor is also a bit mild, it does hit all the right notes for being a solid stout. Body is smooth but again a bit lacking. Enjoyable but mild overall.
3.3 (Bottle). Pours a black brown complexion with disappointing tan head. Roasty malt aroma. The flavor is mild roasted malt with smooth palate. Simple but good.
3.4 Scents of fig, chocolate, oat, coffee and maple syrup. You taste the chocolate - overall, it’s very light. The other flavors don’t stand out as much as the chocolate. The aftertaste is mild with a light bitterness to it. An easy stout to drink!
4.3 Pours black, big medium brown head. Rich chocolate aroma, some cocoa powder. Taste is cocoa some sweet malt, a little cola. Mouthfeel is mwdium, smoothly carbonated. More accessible than some Stouts, but enjoyable.
3.3 Backlog, Pours black from a bottle with a medium beige head. Tasting notes were dark chocolate, brownie, dark malt, coffee, and grain. Medium bodied stout and relatively drinkable at 5.5. Also tried this blended with Fruli strawberry, Canals was calling it a chocolate covered strawberry on the tap station.
3.7 Poured from 12 oz. bottle. Opaque, near-black with a 2-finger tan head and good lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, caramel, roasted malt and a little nuttiness. Taste of caramel, roasted malt, bakers chocolate, roasted coffee and nuts. Medium body and medium/high carbonation. A somewhat sweet, malty and roasty stout with plenty of flavor.
3.4 Pours black into a shaker. Mocha head with excellent retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Soft with dark licorice upfront turning to soy in the lasting finish.
3.7 Opaque deep brown with short head. Cocoa, dates, plums, slightly roasted malt on nose. Aroma carries over to flavor with addition of coffee that I didn’t catch before, some whole grain crackers. Light body, slick feel, soft carbonation, medium to long finish with slight bittering from coffee and chocolate. Nice solid low abv stout.
3.4 On nitro at the brewery. Pours black with thick creamy beige head that lasts. The aroma is roast and dark chocolate. Thin mouth, cracker malt, cocoa, licorice, light roast, good.
3.9 On nitro, so lots of head. Slightly sour malt and barley aroma. Dark black body. Extremely smooth and bitter taste, slightly oaky. Creamy mouthfeel. Exactly what a nitro should be. Tap.
4.1 A very fine stout. Not an Imperial or double or foreign or any other adjective, just a mighty fine Stout. Creamy head, perfect blend of nice dark coffee and chocolate tastes.
2.2 Bottle from Perfect Pour. Dark, toasty oak body with thick tan head. Nose is sweet, chocolate, caramel. Taste is oaky, roasty, malts. Smooth texture. Lots of ash in there. Not so great. Where’s the love?
3.4 Bottle to pint (thanks Kerry). Looks good; a lightly translucent dark brownish cola with foamy beige head that slowly but steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of dark malt and chocolate alongside mild notes of roast and a touch of sweetness. Tastes like it smells, but not as robust, with a medium-light to medium-bodied mouthfeel that’s on the drier side for not being a dry stout. Solid and sessionable.
3.0 Roasted chocolate malt aroma. Pours black with a tan head. Opaque. Mostly roast flavors. Some sweet, but it’s not overwhelming or complex Has a light acid background flavor. Thin bodied.
3.6 Pours black with brown edges, with a one finger tan head which quickly fades to very little lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, sweet malts, caramel, molasses, and some light burnt notes. Taste is similar to the aroma minus the burnt notes and with some added light fruitiness. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a mostly sweet, medium finish. Overall, a decently tasty, easy drinking stout that is pretty sessionable for the style
3.8 DATE TASTED: November 12, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: Guinness pint... OCCASION: a rainy night looking forward to Friday... APPEARANCE: dark black body, as expected; brow, fraying head settles thickly, exhibiting creaminess and consistency... AROMA: chocolate and coffee immediately, as promised; some nuttiness in the malts, but the sweetness and toasted promise is clear and present--a pleasure to inhale... PALATE: creamy early, somewhat smooth in its middle, and lingering in its warmth late... a bit heavy and flat at the finish as well... TASTE: a silky sweetness begins the profile, and its toastiness is palpable but dry; peaty notes make for a rounded, relaxed flavor overall... OVERALL: a stout with little to complain about...actually, flip that--a stout with a lot going for it, and prop to Yards for getting it right...phenolic fragrance detracts slightly from the experience but overall, a solid styling...
3.3 Draft @ Max’s Taphouse, Baltimore. Pours a black color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty chocolate aroma. Roasted malty caramel and chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolate and caramel finish.
4.1 12 oz bottle at The Park House in Pittsburgh. Nice and dark with very tasty coffee and roasted grain flavors. The flavor stays on with you for the whole glass.
3.8 12 oz bottle served in tulip. Creamy off white head dissapears completly leaving almost no lacing. Aroma is roasted malts. Taste is roasted malts with hints of vanilla and chocolate. Smooth finish. Medium bodied beer with light carbonation. Overall good easy drinking flavorful stout for a reasonable price.
3.5 Draft at Towne Tavern. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Doesn’t leave much lacing in the glass. Nice roasted malt notes on the nose. Solid chocolate malt notes on the tongue with enough bitterness on the tongue to keep things interesting without being oppressive. Good example of style.
3.7 Served from nitro tap in a tulip glass. Had thick light brown head with characteristic wait for it to settle. Malty sweet aroma, but first taste was exceptional. Exactly as described with the super smooth palate, creamy sweet with the bite of dark chocolate and coffee malts. Light on the hops but overall tops in my book.
3.2 Draft at Washington St. Ale House in Wilmington. Thin creamy head. Medium bodied. Smooth and creamy palate. The flavor profile is kind of one dimensional, showcasing deeply roasted malts. No chocolate or coffee noted. Ashy, dry finish. Pretty straightforward. Medium bodied.
3.4 Poured into tulip glass from bottle, pretty tan head but not much aroma. Medium bodied at best. Chocolate and roasted grain taste with slight sweetness, mild hops edge in the finish.
3.8 On tap. Description seemed to indicate that this was an oyster stout, but I don’t see anything here about it. Deep dark brown pour with a nitro tap. Didn’t really get any of the saltiness I was hoping for, mostly just a rich sweet stout. Lots of chocolate throughout.
2.4 Not much for an aroma. Smooth mouthfeel but almost comes across watery. The taste is all about the roasted malts. Maybe confused with chocolatey notes. Very drinkable but not that pleasing
3.6 Aroma caramel, chocolate, coffee, toast, roasty, basement aromas, Appearance black, tan foam, brown foam, Taste light sweetness, lightly bitter, Palate medium body, full body, thick feel, creamy, Overall a really nice stout that I would suggest to a friend
3.7 Really solid stout. Nothing fancy. Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate. Easy drinking. Baller.
3.5 Bottle. Nice chocolate aroma, light chili note. Black, brown lace. Dry body, roast, a bit chocolatl, light rye bread. Easy drinkable.
