Yards Philadelphia Pale Ale

Yards Philadelphia Pale Ale

Not to be boastful, but we honestly believe all other ales pale in comparison to ours. Dry hopped with an abundance of distinctive Simcoe hops, this straw colored pale ale is more drinkable than bitter, more aromatic than aggressive. Philly Pale, as it’s better known, is crisp, hoppy, and bursting with citrus.

Philadelphia Pale Ale was named one of the best Pale Ales in the country by the New York Times.

2.6 Pours corn yellow with a moderate white top. Aroma is light grassy malts and hops. Taste is middle of the road safe pale ale. Easy drinking non offending just open and crush.
3.2 (Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 11 May 2018) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Malty, fruity nose with bread, tea and fresh grassy hops. Malty, hoppy taste with notes of bread, grass, citrus and fresh floral hops in a finish with a balanced bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty and refreshing. Quite nice.
3.1 Tap @ Bishops Arms Gustav Adolfs Torg, Malmö. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty and moderate hoppy - herbal. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 110618
2.4 12 ounce bottle in tulip A place slight hazy yellow with minimal quickly disappearing head A: lemon citrus, malty character T: mild sweet, med bitter, no sour P: light body, smooth thin texture, low average carb, weak finish O: just ok
3.3 I believe I first had Philly Pale Ale in 2005, but I can’t be sure. Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Honestly, it has the look of a mass produced lager (Miller High Life), and tastes more like a Pils than a hoppy session like Founders All-Day. Very drinkable. It’s become the unofficial keg beer for my inlaws’ parties. Cheers!
3.9 3/30/18 On tap at Penn GAPSA mixer at 23rd St. Armory Pale amber with a nice fluffy head that dissipates nut leaves some lacing. Nose is floral citrus hops. Decently strong and a bit grassy. Smells great. Taste is floral hops and biscuit malt. Definitely hoppy but nicely balanced. Med to slightly thin palate with a hoppy finish. Overall an excellent pale ale. Definitely hoppy but nicely balanced. I might be a little biased living in Philly but this is an excellent easy-drinking beer!
3.7 DATE: March 24, 2018... OCCASION: the annual Father-Son Cake Bake preparation completed early, it's time for an afternoon treat... GLASSWARE: Abita pint... pours a bright, golden orange amber with large, swirling bubbles that build to a crisp, thick, spongy white head... ts lacing is equally attractive, arching lace like sea foam curling upwards... sharp citrus early--lemon, orange, mostly--with an underpinning of pine... fresh outdoorsy smell, with the pilsner malts adding a light touch of toasted malts... solid and respectful of the genre... the medium-bodied palate is slightly oily, lingering in its late strength, and pleasantly bright throughout--consistently effervescent, sticky and textured as an IPA might be, packed well into a 4.6% ABV... the nose didn't belie its citric strength, with orange peel and lemon zest refreshingly in full effect; a bit of sweetness from the toasted malts rounds this nicely... I remember a time when "session" ales were called pale ales, and the goal wasn't mega-anything, just a pleasant, flavorful, sessionable pint that knows how to stay out of the way of the events and occasions it accompanies...
4.2 My close second favorite in my favorite US-style. Yards makes Philly proud. What I love about their line-up is it's no BS (bourbon cask faddy crap and such) and their beers are all about balance. I enjoy every beer in their line-up except Brawler. Their IPA is one of the few I can still stomach as a recovering IPA drinker. Pale Ale has become my favorite US style, and this is my close second fave with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale being my favorite I can actually get. (There was one from a small nano I had on tap a year ago that was amazing. I don't recall the name, I'm sure I'll never find it...) This beer? Vastly underrated. Beautifully balanced, high quaffability, nice citrus notes but not ruined by overhopping like so many others. Always tastes like another.
4.0 Might be one of the most easy to drink beers I’ve ever had!
3.4 Pours a finger of head on a clear straw body. Aroma is pine and lemon zest. Taste is crisp lemon and pine bitterness, bright flavors. Texture is crisp.
3.3 12 ounce bottle. Bright, medium gold pour. Large frothy white head. Fruity malt nose. Some bready notes. Pleasant light citrus malt flavor. Hints of grassy hops and white bread. Very drinkable, though non distinctive. Tremendous lacing through to bottom of glass.
3.3 Rating #2515 - 2016.05.04 - Draught at the Hard Rock Cafe in Philadelphia. Clear golden amberpour with a decent white head. Aroma is fairly tame, some grass, pepper, and orange rind. Palate is similar - crisp, decent citrus notes, some peppery bitterness. Ho-hum Pale Ale.
3.5 Pours clear golden with a thin white head. The aroma is really citrusy with mainly grapefruit. A nice citrus flavour with some nice malt flavours but just a hint of alcohol esters.
2.6 Bottle (Apr 25, 2017 bottling). Head is initially small, fizzy/frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), moderately hoppy (grapefruit/lemon pith, resin), with a note of Captain Crunch cereal, hints of perfume and celery. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Kind of acrid and quite watery and thin in the mouth, so it’s not much fun to drink. The aroma is citrus-slanted but kind of artificial too, like a kid’s cereal. A bit vegetal too. I’ve had a couple decent 3.3-level brews from Yards, but sadly this isn’t one of them.
3.0 Draft at The Irish Pol. Slightly hazy yellow gold with a large fluffy white top. Blonde cereal malts. Floral citrus hops. Soapy. Notes of orange, unripe banana, sugarcane, horsehair, straw. Balanced. Crisp when cold.
3.2 Klar, gold, weißer Schaum Aroma: Weizen, fruchtig Geschmack: Malz, Hopfen, etwas Zitrus, moderate Bitterkeit Nichts besonders, aber okay
3.5 While there is nothing spectacular about this beer, it is a decent pale ale that is very drinkable. Malt and grain back bone with some hoppy notes of citrus and floral, bitterness is minimal.
3.6 4 oz pour on draft at Spacebar. Clear golden yellow with off-white head. Aromas of wheat, floral, light citrus. Tastes of flora.l, light citrus, wheat, malt. Medium body with a dry finish.
2.3 Colour is clear light orange with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Some fruits, some hops and some malts. Pretty weak.
4.1 Pale, yummy, caramel, resin, alcohol, hay, cereal, toasty, hoppy, simcoey, boobies
4.0 12oz Flasche. Goldgelbes Bier, viel Schaum. Es duftet nach Honigmelone und Hopfen und Citrus. Kräuter im Antrunk. Basilikum, Zitrone. Es ist laut Etikett ein non-traditional style APA und das stimmt! Lecker und frisch bei nur 4,6%.
3.8 On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with medium off white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is strong citrus and dank hop. Medium mouth, crisp, citrus, light pine, crushable, very good.
4.1 One of the most popular brews in the region, Philly Pale is an excellent, well balanced beer. Nice citrus taste, goes down smooth and easy. Slightly hoppy, but not too aggressive. The perfect beer for kicking back and having a few with friends while you enjoy the game or the weather or just life in general.
3.5 Earthy hop, touch of spicy hop, biscuity malt, with med bitterness and well-balanced.
3.5 Bottle from Perfect Pour. Golden body with medium, soapy head. Nose is hoppy and soapy as well. Taste is hoppy up front with citrus and floral and wheaty. Creamy texture.
3.0 Poured a golden color with aromas of dryness, light bitter hops and some light malt. Flavors are the same with light hops and dry aftertaste decent but basic.
4.7 This is the best pale ale in the world. Also it is better than most IPAs. Supremely drinkable. Amazing aroma. Tasty.
3.3 A pale ale can either be too dry and too bitter, or it can be a perfect thing to drink. This falls somewhere in between. It’s bitter, to be sure, but not in a way that makes it hard to drink. Beyond that, though, it’s light in color and in flavor and doesn’t do much else. Smells floral.
3.4 Blonde to bronze in color with a flimsy head. This APA is more assertive than I was expecting, starting off with a raft of bitter hops in the nose with some nice dryness to it. The body is assertively hoppy with a good bitter backbone and some interesting fruity and twangy notes. Malt backbone is there to contribute some balance and not much else.
3.0 Pours a pale amber with almost no head. Nose is spunky and cider-like. Taste is lightly hoppy, but on the sweet side. Refreshing, albeit simple.
