Saisons were originally brewed to keep farmhands happy and hydrated during the warm summer months. True to the style, Yards’ Saison is a semi-unfiltered Belgian style ale brewed with distinctive Belgian yeast. It’s delicate and fruity with a subtle spiciness. Styrian Goldings in the kettle lend a touch of hop to the palate, balancing out this highly drinkable version of the classic style. Available April through July or until supplies last.

3.2Pours mildly cloudy yellow gold with small white head that leaves minor lacing.
The nose is bread, lemongrass, cereal, candied sugar. Palate adds mild citrus and banana, plus spices. I noticed coriander, clove and cumin.
This is a mild farmhouse without much funk but some hop bitterness, reasonable level of alcohol with very slight buzz on the finish. Decent.
3.6On tap at Uno, Hamilton. Aroma is bread and butter, yeast,. Yellow color. No head. Taste has a touch of fruity, Ester, but very clean. Nice saison.
3.6On tap at brewery. Pours cloudy golden color with a foamy white head. Aroma is fruity malt with yeast spiciness and cloves. Flavor is light sweet grainy fruity maltiness with slight citrus and earthiness. Finishes with spicy yeast, cloves, and citrus zest. Really nice saison.
3.6On tap at Jet Rock at PHL (after a connecting flight...I admit that all beers I have ever rated seem to get an extra +0.2 just for the fact that Jet Rock is the best non-tied-house craft beer bar in an airport). Also, the actual beer ratings by me are pretty lame. Hazy honeycomb yellow-orange with full white head and amazing patterns down the glass. Nice spice and moderate low noble hops. I enjoyed this starter to the flight!
3.2Some floral hops, pepper, and lemon flavors dominate, a small hint of banana as well. Not bad, but nothing special.
3.3Bottle. An almost clear one, pale golden in color and with a small, dense, white head. The aroma is quite banana-ish, with some spiced, peppery hints and a touch of citrus zest. It’s dry and medium bodied, with an appropriate carbonation level. Nice bitterness in the flavor, with some resins and pine cones. Peppery yeast, banana and a faint touch of lemon too. Lasting bitter, piney and peppery finish with some banana. Too much hefeweizen-ish on the nose especially, but it’s a quenching and quite nice beer anyway. 150622
3.0Not a bad standard saison. Light and yet fruity with decent spice. Easy to drink but not a full flavor. Don’t go in thinking Belgium. Bottle
3.3Golden with white head. raw yeasty Herbal aroma. Yeasty malty sweet flavor slightly sour hunt bitter creamy finish.
3.5Aroma bread, cereal, citrus, dough, banana,
Appearance golden, hazy, cloudy, white foam,
Taste light sweetness, lightly bitter, metallic
Palate medium body, average carbonation,
Overall an average beer that I wouldn’t turn down
3.1Pours a yellowish fizz. Delicate hint of summer fruit on the nose with a very slight autumnal spice to it. Very drinkable and you wouldn’t think it was 6.5%
3.5Pours yellow-orange with a one finger white head with just a little lacing. Aroma is of fruity ethers, Belgian yeast, bready malts, and some citrus. Taste is about the same as the aroma. Has a medium-light body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a slightly bitter, semi dry, medium finish. Overall, a easy drinking, above average saison.
3.5Poured from a 12 oz bottle.
Aroma is full of classic Belgian esters with a lot of over ripe stone fruit, pear red apple and lighter bubblegum. Some light citrus including lime. Medium light pepper phenolics.
Pours a cloudy, yellow gold with a large, pillow white head that exhibits decent retention as it recedes to a small head that lingers. Medium light lacing and small legs.
Flavor is somewhat sweet with a light character and grain note. Light citrus notes including lime. Medium light fruit esters with light pepper phenolics. Moderate bitterness and a medium light mineral note to the water. A hint of honey.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth.
Overall, another alright American made classic Belgian saison. Easy drinking but lacking anything special and the fruit esters might be a bit over powering.
3.2Draft. Hazy golden color, medium white head. Aroma of mixed spice, straw, hay. Taste is white pepper and straw. OK.
3.6Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a hazed orange-yellow color with a two finger thick and billowy white head. The head fades slowly leaving a decent level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of wheaty and yeasty aroma with a lots of banana and spice of coriander and clove. Along with these smells are some other light fruit aromas of an orange and a lemongrass aroma as well.
Taste – The taste begins with a slightly lightly sweetened yeasty and wheaty taste with the sweetness being a mix of candied sugar and some fruit of an orange flavor. As the taste advances the candied sugar and orange fade, but some flavors of banana come to the tongue and bring with them some clove and pepper. A little bit of a grassy and lemon flavor come to the tongue toward the end of the taste and with the dwindling of the sweeter flavors overall, leaves a rather well balanced, only lightly funked and rather more crisp saison flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is medium in its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation that was average to slightly low. A little higher carbonation would have been slightly more fitting for the style, but even so the feel was alright and keep it a rather easy drinking brew.
Overall – A somewhat drier and less funky saison that had a very easy drinking feel. Not a bad brew and one to at least give a try too.
4.0DATE REVIEWED: July 24, 2014... GLASSWARE: La Fin du Monde tulip... OCCASION: just watched Earth to Echo--fun, but not E.T. ...APPEARANCE: hazy, glowing golden orange body; an armada of bubbles cascades upward into a white, frothy, three-finger head that leaves thick cumulous clouds... AROMA: candied sugar, hay and lemon zest--missing the signature barnyard yeasts, though--definite allspice, cumin and coriander... PALATE: lively, active in the teeth; medium-bodied, with a long drawn-out, welcome aftertaste; sessionable but somewhat substantial... TASTE: apple, raisin, grape, zesty lemon, anise and cumin combine to create an abbey-like profile without the alcohol...not as soft and unfiltered as expected... OVERALL: one of the first (THE first?!) saison I had, and this bottle rewards well within my price range ($8.99 for a six); quite flavorful for the thirst-quenching expectations; Yards dos not often disappoint, and they do not here...
3.6Draft at Golden West Cafe. Poured a sightly clear golden yellow color with a medium sized, creamy white head. Aroma was light spice notes, some floral notes. Citrus character was nice. Sweet malts. Light funky notes - nothing crazy, but pretty tasty.
3.3Bottle into a tulip glass. Pour is a yellow with a thin head Aroma is malt and yeasty. Taste is rich and warm. Finish is clean.
3.1Has a nice grass yeast malt aroma. Has a tang malt maybe some grapefruit taste, not shabby
3.6Saison 2009+ Gold pour with creamy white clinging head and lace. Light rock candy aroma and floral notes on the nose. Sweet malt and a perfumy bitter along with a flat paper bitter finish. Medium bodied with good carbonation. solid
3.112 oz bottle. Pours a clear yellow with a quickly fading head that left lacing. Aroma is yeast, corn, bread and lemons. Flavor is same, mild saison with sweet corn finish. Decent.
3.412 oz bottle. Poured w/1 in head of bright white foam...nice laces on my tulip glass. Slight saison haze, more amber than orange in colour. Nice Belgian funk on the nose...got a bit of banana as we'll. Very well-attenuated...fresh, effervescent. Typical spices/fruits on the tongue...some tart /sour as well. Excellent example of style.
3.6Pear and banana nose, lemongrass. Fairly clear golden, thick lacy head. Full body, lacks carbonation, warm. Apricot and lemon. Grain husks on the back of the palate are actually not out of place. Drinks a bit heavy, not super refreshing, but enjoyable.
3.6Tap at Birroteca. Cloudy amber, pretty sparkles, offwhite cream. Citric light flowery nose. Creamy sparkly mouthfeel, fruity base, apples, pears, mango, grassy finish, a hint salt.
3.3Couple of pints on tap. Lightly hazy golden with a ring of cream. Mild aroma of earthy must and spicy bread. Tastes of lemon, earthy toast and maybe a touch of white grape. Light-medium body has medium-high carbonation and is well balanced.
3.2Sampled at AC Beerfest (2014). Poured a slightly hazy dark golden color with a small foamy off white head. Aroma of bready malts, orange zest, yeast, and hints of spice. Taste of sweet bready malts, light orange citrus, yeast, with a mild spiciness.
3.7On draft, in a tulip at Woodberry Kitchen on my birthday! Golden amber with bubbly white head and strong lacing. A sweet fresh baked bread essence with orange marmalade and spice on the nose and palate... Easy to drink... Paired well with the crab pot. Very nice.
3.3Bottle into tulip glass, slight hazy golden color with off-white head. Aroma of pale malt, bread, mild spices (mainly clove) and slightly metallic. Taste seems to have more happening; added notes of pepper, citrus (lemon, orange rind), more spices (rosemary, lemongrass) and some grass. Light body, moderate carbonation, effervescent, crisp with slight yeasty finish. Decent sessionable saison.
3.1Bottle
Aroma: White bread, yeasty must
Appearance: Cloudy straw
Taste: Sweet bread
Palate: Bit of spice toward finish
Overall: Very subdued flavors, not a ton of character
3.012 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured a bit hazy, Deep orange, with a think white head, nice lacing on the head. Aroma is yeasty and fruity with some spices (clove maybe). Taste is citrusy and spicy (a bit peppery), finishes a bit dry but still quite refreshing. Not a bad summer beer.
3.6Poured orange/gold with a thin, bubbly head. Aroma is floral with a bit of orange peel. Taste is citrus (mostly orange) with a nice crisp, dry finish. Pleasantly surprised at how good this one was.
