Yards Saison (pre-2009)

Yards Saison (pre-2009)

Using Belgian pilsen malt and Belgian candi sugar we’ve brewed a classic pale ale. Hints of coriander and orange make this a refreshing, effervescent ale.

3.2 Bottle. Aroma is sugar, orange and spice and yeast. Poured yellowish gold witha a white head. Flavor is pilsenerish, light orange and coriander and lemon. Palate is relatively thin and finish is smooth and slightly citric but not acidic. Overall not too shabby, my opinion it would make a half decent session beer.
3.4 Yards products are hit or miss and i feel this one is a hit. Very nice pick of spices to counter act the malt
3.3 From tap poured a hazy orange/yellow color, with a good amount of head. Nice sweet/fruity flavor with a quick aftertaste.
2.9 before i open this i get the feeling that this is nothing like a real saison. definitely no brett which is good. aroma is mostly lemony. this beer is pretty much a sweeter belgian wit. lemony, a little spice, and candi sugar. overall, quite refreshing but very pedestrian.
3.2 Nov. 2005 - Beer poured pale yellow color with very nice head that lasted until the end (there was even some foam sitting at the bottom of the glass). Aroma was yeasty, hay-like. The flavor reflected a pretty good saison imitation, but it was a little thin and watery. Just not rich enough in the flavor department. This might make a good thirst-quencher (if you EVER try to quench your thirst using beer) after mowing the lawn or something, though.
3.2 Bottle shared by decaturstevo with myself, Suttree, and SpringsLicker. Pours cloudy bright yellow with enormous white head and a few particles. The aroma is "stinky" though not in a bad way... horsey, some lemon, touch of goat cheese, some cumin. The flavor is mild spice, lemon zest, and light bread. Refreshing but not very bold.
3.5 Do you know what’s fun to say? "Session Saison". Say it. its fun. Anyway, this is a very tasty but unassuming beer. Some of the usual saison players - coriander, orange. Tasty beer. Thanks to decaturstevo for this one!
2.5 Bottle purchased at D’s Six Pax, Pittsburgh. Pours hazy yellow, thin white head. Aroma is a bit diluted: funky, musty, tangy, sour, a little bit meaty, a little bit cheesy. Flavor is sour dough and bleu cheese, some meat, but very watery. Disappointingly weak.
4.0 An everyday South Philly style saison. Good tasting session pale ale with a helping of coriander and Belgian style yeast flavoring.
2.9 8/02/2007: Yard’s Saison is cloudy and has a foamy off-white head that doesn’t last very long. The color is mostly golden with a brownish hue to it. Yeasty, mildly sweet fruit citrus, wheat, and hints of grass and spice can be found in the aroma. The flavor is made up of bready malt, hints of banana and spice, lemon, and has a slightly grassy and bitter finish. The body is medium-light and not overly carbonated. Overall this beer is tangy and refreshing. 12 fl. oz. bottle (bonus) from my first trade with jasonmech77. Thanks Jason! I appreciate it. Rating #179 for this beer...
3.2 12 oz bottle from Secret Santa. Pour is a slightly hazy very light white yellow with a lot of bubbles. Aroma is coriander, citrus and a tiny bit of earthiness. Taste is a lot of citrus - mostly on the lemon side of the scale. Pretty ordinary beer, though it was nicely situated somewhere between a Saison and a Wit. Santa was looking out for my favorite style, which is very cool.
3.3 Bottle. Spicy aroma, coriander and orange rind with some nutmeg and caramel. Yeasty and herbal. Golden pour with a big stream of bubbles shooting right up from the center. Head is clingy, white, airy, soft, rocky, and big. Crisp mf, big malt with lemon juice and orange rind, pepper and yeast with coriander entering before the whole thing dries out. Some notes of wheat. Medium-light body, smooth and crisp. Nice little guy!
2.9 Pours a hazy yellow-orange color with a nice white head. Aroma of citrus and maybe some malts. Too much sugar and orange for the palate. A fruited-up version of Blue Moon.
3.1 Bottle from Jasonmech77. Slightly hazy pale body with a small, white head. The aroma is bread, honey, grass and very light spice. The flavor is moderately sweet, pears, cotton candy, bread, honey, herbal and light pepper. Medium body is soft with very light carbonation.
3.0 12 oz. bottle via trade with jasonmech77 - Pours a hazy golden color with a thin white head that faded pretty quick. Very light lacing. Aroma is light yeast, esters, lemon zest, and herbal hops. Flavor is light citrus, light yeast, and esters. Light to medium body. Has a little more of a hop bite than the other Saisons I’ve tried. A decent beer. Thanks Jason.
2.7 Sampled on draught at Penn Microbrewers Fest, served to me by Woody Chandler. Has a nice dry Brett nose with a little bit of sweetness and lemon peel. Hazy golden amber body with a light, off-white head to it. Medium watery body with medium carbonation. Starts rather dry and continues to have a dry bitterness throughout. Light bitter chalky hit with bitter orange rind. Good yeasty hit but also a bit watery. After is bitter and a wee bit harsh. Not quite as balanced as it should be. I’m just not a fan of Yards.
3.0 Appearance is nice, nose is nice, but the flavor lacks the authentic belgian saison style. No depth and minimal carbonation make this a forgetable brew
2.6 Light amber orange haze with a thin, white head. The aroma was interesting, soft sweetness, bitter hops and slightly spicy. Very effervescent in the mouth. Dry. However, it tasted like 10% bitter apple juice and 90% seltzer water. Not exactly my favourite combination of flavors.
2.7 Bottle. Pours a pale golden body with thin head. Yeasty wheat aroma, light citrus. Flavor is an off bitterness, lemony, dry, hoppy. A little sweet. Not a good example of the style but decent for a hot summers day.
2.9 Dark orange pour. Lemon/citrus aroma. Taste of bread, lemon and citrus with not much else. Some spiciness in the aftertaste and a decent bitterness in the back of the throat. Definately not one of Yard’s best, but drinkable
2.8 Lemony flavor, not that good, kind of watery... would pass on this next time. Too bad, Yards usually puts out decent stuff.
1.0 Yellow. No real aroma. Taste was dirty and unrefreshing. More like a light beer than the saison’s I’ve had.
2.4 Barely average. A bready aroma. Light taste with not much flavor Rather bland.
3.2 12oz. bottle: this one pours a golden straw color that was fairly clear. It had a small white head on it. I get lemon, with some sweetness, spices and a grassiness to the nose. The taste is a touch sweet, with notes of the lemon and possibly some coriander. It almost tastes like there may be some corn in with the brew. Not bad, but a bit lacking for a saison.
2.9 A hazy golden beer with a huge yellow head. The aroma is sweet spicy with notes of lemon zest. The flavor is rather sweet with primary notes of lemon zest and yeast, leading to a dry end with notes of lemon and wheat.
2.8 Very little aroma--mostly citrus zest and some pepper. Clear golden color with a frothy white head. The palate is medium with light carbonation. Lemon pepper dominates the taste with some very light sour hints thrown in--not a lot of flavor overall though.
3.2 Got this beer from a keg at a party. I was already drunk and this was a great transition away from the malt liquor that I was drinking earlier. A nice sweet beer, with a stale bite at the end. Definately a nice beer to swish around in your mouth. A good beer to swish around in the mouth and easy to drink even while heavily intoxicated.
2.9 Bottle. Disappointing. Poured an orange-gold; murky; alot of carbonation streams. Aroma of yeast, bubblegum and some fruit. Taste was bland, with a bitter wheat flavor at the end. Palate was the best part.
2.4 Had on draft. Maybe I got a bad batch, but I wasn’t a big fan of this beer. It poured a cloudy yellow. The one I had didn’t seem to have much taste.
3.1 Bottle drank at the Brickskeller during RBSG 06 DC Weekend Yellowish green, light head and lacing. Nose of yeast tart, grassy hops and some pilsner malt. The flavor is sweet/tart, light hop and a smooth mouthfeel. Decent beer. Finishes light, zesty, boring.
