Yeastie Boys Digital IPA (2015 - current)

Yeastie Boys Digital IPA (2015 - current)

Can
India Pale Ale

Brewed in New Zealand (at Urbanaut), UK (Fourpure) and Australia (Nomad).

Ingredients: Lager Malt, Vienna Malt, Gladiator Malt; Pacific Jade, Nelson Sauvin, Southern Cross, Motueka; Fermentis US-05 yeast

This India Pale Ale (IPA) is an aggressive wee beast that is dedicated to our friend Joseph Wood of Liberty Brewing and to all those hopheads who love drinking IPA day in, day out. Just as the term digital is all about zeroes and ones, the concept of IPA is all about malts and hops. Enjoy the rich golden malt backbone of Digital while you can... then feel it closing in as the fruity Motueka-grown hops dominate your palate and don’t ever fade away. IPA as it should be.

Bitterness = 57 IBU; Colour = 5.7 SRM

2.1 7/20 really malty ipa, overly carbonated, bitter aftertaste - not sort of ipa I like
3.9 Smooth and hoppy
3.8 Oh hoppy days! Hoppy overtone with berry and citrus undertones. Crisp fresh taste with bitter aftertaste.
3.6 Quite hazy golden and straw coloured body with a thinnish and slow-dying pure white head that starts at about a centimetre or so tall and fades quite slowly. Aroma of grass, light tropical fruits, a touch of flowers and grain and ending with a dash of light malt. Medium-bodied; Strong rich fruit notes showing guava, passionfruit and definitely some papaya throughout that ends with a dash of flowers and grasses towards the end, but all supported quite nicely with some grain and a touch of alcohol and funk towards the end. Aftertaste shows the balance very nicely with a pungent grainy finish and a smooth, but noticeable bitterness from the tropically fruity hop notes. Overall, a very nice beer that hits almost like a New England IPA, but the bitterness and funk shows more traditionally. I don't remember enough about the beer that I had (pre 2015) to compare this, but this can was very nice, and perhaps even better since I had it fresh, close to the source! I sampled this 33 cL can purchased from a Bottle Shop under a hotel in Manly, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 15-August-2019 for AU$8,00 sampled in my hotel room here in Sydney (CBD), Australia on 15-August-2019.
1.9 Don’t know what happened to this, but seemed oxidised. Will give another batch a try.
3.6 330ml can. Tropical hop aroma, sweet malt flavour only light/medium hop bitterness. Good IPA.
3.8 330 ml can bought at Tramline Liquor in Kennedy Town. Looks: Clear golden honey with a cloud of misty yeast particlesOne finger head with crumpety white foam which lasts for 3 minutes; Very good sticky lacing with sparse slight carbonation. Aroma: Very fragrant fair Ale malt, with strong melon, white grapes, subtle citrus, light honey, floral, fair sugar, biscuits, light lime and light grass. Taste: Mid to light sweet fair Ale malt, with strong melon, strong citrus peels, white grapes, floral, light sugar, peppers, biscuits, lemon, lime, medium bitter hops and fresh grass. Body: Mid to light body; Fairly slick palate. Mouth Feel: Fair Ale maltyness in a runny but slick background. Strong NZ hops dominate as in melon, grapes and subtle citrus peels. Flowery with fair sweetness. Peppery spicy with notable astringency. Lemon and lime to round. Nice! Hoppiness: Strong melon, white grapes, citrus, floral, light lime and light grass in nose.Strong citrus peels, strong melon, white grapes, floral, peppers, lemon, lime and fresh grass in taste; Bitterness is quite strong for a lasting, mid to high level very bitter-sweet fair Ale malty finish. After Taste: Quite dry. Fruity citrusy and bitter to mouth. Comments: This one goes all-out with NZ hops (it's at their backyard so why not?) with abundant melon and grapes from Nelson Sauvin, lift lemon from Motueka, plus peppery spice from Pacific Jade. Coupling with good looks and long bitterness and this is almost perfect, pnly some strong astringency holds it back. Pleasing stuff!
3.4 Golden hazy colour, fruity aroma of hops and pine needles. Interesting IPA
3.5 330ml can. Hazy yellow/golden. Large white head. Aroma of peach, orange, lemon, pine, malts. Taste is similar to aroma. Some herbs as well. Initial fruity sweetness is balanced by a zesty bitter backbone that intensifies in the aftertaste. Medium bodied. Very nice.
3.4 Draught at Skaal. Hazy amber coloured with a small white head. Fruity aroma of hops and pine needles. Fruity flavour of hops and pine needles with notes of citrus. Hoppy finish.
3.5 From tap at SKAAL. A hazy amber coloured beer with a white head. Aroma and flavour of malt, hops, fruit, citrus, grapefruit and with a bitter finish.
3.8 Draft. A hazy golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of hops, spices, malt, and fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of hops, spices, malt, and citrus fruits, leading to a bitter finish.
3.3 Keg, guest ale at Brewhouse & Kitchen (Milton Keynes). Shared with Finn. Lacing rings down the glass, remaining white head. Next to clear yellow-gold body. Promising smell of ripe lemon. Fresh fruity flavours, lemony hops and peaches. Fruit hoppy ending, semi sweet. Fine depth. Nice one. (12.02.2019).
3.4 Can, April 2018. Coppery amber with a narrow lid. Aroma of peach, orange wine gum, watermelon, sappy green herb with a heady Belgian-like quality. Flavour of apricot, nougat, honeyed grapefruit, grenadine and an earthy, perfumed spice note like turmeric. Some tripel-like warmth. Basic but decent.
3.3 Aroma e gusto di freco Aroma poco intenso ma rispetta il gusto
3.9 Very subtle aroma of pine, malt and citrus. Medium body and decent carbonation. Taste is crisp and malt with some pine, sweet juicy citrus and subtle honey.
3.5 Fruity, citrusy, light, biscuity. Hazy yellow to golden color with small sized white head. Citrus and grass taste, medium bitterness, bit piney. Thin body, average carbonation. Nice overall. //can from Tesco
3.6 Pours cloudy orange, very small head. Aroma is fresh and herbal, pine, grainy. Malty flavor with a sharp hoppy bite, good balance between herbal, leafy taste and citrousness, tea tannins and a bit of anise, zesty and tart hints.
3.8 Tap@Fementoren (Yeastie Boys TTO) - Amber pour with a white head and lacing. Sweet fruity and malty with notes of caramel, some grapefruit and tangerine, medium body, solid resinous bitter hoppy finish. Lovely old school IPA!
4.5 Lovely. Bitter and fruity through and through with a perfect smoothness. So it's aggressive and subtle at the same time. Very refreshing and tastes amazing.
4.2 330ml can from Tesco. From tulip glass, pours clear , fresh taste and really enjoyable
3.8 Hoppy ipa but above all a real fruit Bom! Mango, pineapple and floral tones
3.6 Can from Kris Wines in Holloway. Light pour with fluffy head, piney, herby hops, strong citrus. Like a session IPA but much stronger ABV. Nice beer.
