Yo-Ho Tokyo Black Porter

Yo-Ho Tokyo Black Porter

Tokyo Black is the second brand at YoHo. A robust porter, well balanced between the malt and the hops. The complex chocolate and roast flavours of dark specialty malts are combined with a floral and slightly spiciness from Perle hops.

3.4 Can. Black, slught beige head. Roasted aroma, coffee, chocolate, sweet. Light roast flavor, dry finish that fades rather quickly. Hints of coffee, milk chocolate. Not too powerful. Decent porter.
3.1 350 ml. can. Pours a thick, well retained, beige head, with moderate lacing over a clear very dark brown/black (SRM 40) body......nose is heavy roasted malts with coffee, chocolate tones, mild hop spice, balance to the malts......taste is roasted malts with heavy coffee, chocolate tones, slight hop spice notes, finish is moderately hop bitter, dry throughout, balance to the malts.......mouth feel medium light body, no alcohol, moderate carbonation. This falls toward Porter but the heavy roasted malts are a bit too dominant making for a slight flaw. BJCP 7/3/12/4/6
4.0 Good porter. There is a nice roast and chocolate base, and a touch of spiced hops. Nice brew.
3.7 Exceptional. Very dark brown. Great blonde head, but dissipates relatively quickly. Malty, bitter chocolate, slight burned coffee, but not overpowering, bit of molasses. Some initial sweetness fades quickly leaving the malt/burned coffee behind. Not unpleasant.
3.4 33cl can from Taps, Penang. Thick creamy off white head. Clear black pour. A lovely porter.
3.5 LCI. Uit de fles geschonken. Aardige porter, gebrande mout, wat chocola, redelijk vol van smaak. Lekker!
3.8 Got this one as a real/cask ale at Yona Yona Beer Works in Shinjuku. Deep black with generous creamy light brown head. Milk chocolate aroma, toasty malts. And some malt sugar too. Mellow chocolate taste, not too overwhelming. Extremely drinkable. Beyond luscious in the mouth, oh so creamy.
3.4 Piana drobna opada , zdobi szkło. Kolor czarny. Aromat słodki, ciemne słody, paloność, czekolada. Smak palone słody, czekolada lekka słodycz, karmel, czuć lekko żelazo w smaku. Piwo lekkie, przyjemne, dobre, nic nadzwyczajnego.
4.1 350ml Can from Bic Camera, Akihabara, Tokyo (¥288): Quite an enjoyable porter & definitely one of the better dark beers that I've tried from Japan, this one coming through with quite a sweet but balanced taste than had a great combination of caramel malts & milk chocolate flavours as well as some earthy malts & vanilla in there. The beer was exactly what I was expecting from the style & it went down smoothly too, it's definitely one I'd have again if I could find it outside of Japan.
3.5 Toque final amargo
3.6 330ml can @ Kyoto. Smooth, slightly roasty and earthy porter with some licorice, coffee and syrupy sweetish notes. Okay.
3.2 Can. Clear, black, minimal head, tan foam, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, medium body, oily feel, flat, & abrupt finish.
3.3 Can. Very dark brown, average to large and mostly diminishing light brown head. Moderate, malty and lightly sweetish aroma, ligh coffee, light hoppyness. Body is , medium, malty and lightly sweetish flavor, faint roastiness and light coffee, light hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, faint roastiness and light coffee, light hoppyness. OK porter with roastiness - not too sweet/too much coffee. Nice head.
3.7 Approx. 12 oz. can @ home. Black color. Beige head with short retention. Aroma's: roasted malts, umami, drop. Retronasal it' roasted, drop, molasses, umami. Flavor is roasted, light bitter, light sweet. Light bodied. Roast gets stronger and turns into a moderate bitterness. Pretty good.
2.9 Black hue with thick light beige head. Medium roasty black malty nose with a dryish backbone. Smooth yet full flavor that’s dark and roasty and earthy with a kiss of licorice and light tempered and balancing bitterness. Standard earthy roasty dry and somewhat bitter finish. Kinda just plain.
3.9 W aromacie głównie kawa zbożowa wzbogacona o subtelną mleczną czekoladę. W smaku kawa, kawa zbożowa. Wysoce kremowe, gładkie, dosyć słodkie, delikatnie palone. Czarne z piękną, kremową pianą. Dobre.
3.6 Just got home and cracked this cold beauty. Admittedly, though, after a two-hour commute because of bad weather, Milwaukee's Best might also taste like salvation. Luckily, having drunk this many a time, I also know it is a well-crafted beer. Pours an opaque black with a tan head. There is a lot of chocolate and coffee flavors in here, along with roasted malt. Chocolate comes first, then coffee, and finishes with malt. Tokyo Black is a little bitter, but not exceptionally so.
3.5 Bottle @ Floris’ Leaving Party. Pours a pich black beer with a thick off white head on top. Aroma of roasted malts, some meaty aroma, licorice and tobacco. Flavor is strong, earthy notes, some coffee and high in carbonation. A bit weird, with a strange coffee tartness in the finish. Full and complex, but still a bit weird..
3.5 Tallahassee, Fl - Market Square Liquors - 12 oz can, Dark brown with a purplish tint to the pour. Aroma has some creosote accents, some smoky meaty accents, Flavor is bold and complex, some topsoil notes, some anise seed, some smoked meat and a touch of mole sauce, Mouthfeel has a pleasant slickness to it.
3.4 Sampled from bottle at Floris’s leaving tasting. Black with tan head. Black with tan head. Roasted black malts, bready. Light sweet and light bitter. About medium body and soft carbonation.
3.4 7 3 7 3 14 Can shared for Floris’s Leaving Beers at Gekke Geit. Black with a small beige head. Aroma of roast, malt, chocolate, toffee and caramel. Flavour is above moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
3.5 35 cl can a firend brought for me from Tokyo. Pitch black color, short relatively persistent dark brown head. Aroma is malty, dark chocolate, some coffee, burnt wood, bittering hops maybe. Taste is light bitter, well balanced, dusty texture, medium body, structured, relatively long and dry finish, light sharp/spicy. Quite nice.
3.1 I had it in the can. So much for the aroma. I had nori before, so my evaluation is now heavily confounded. But it’s with mentioning that it fits nicely to minced pork with rice and nori. It is a very round, charming, not heavy, not light, fairly creamy porter. For it’s price (280¥) I got more than I’ve expected. It’s more on the coffee and black beans side of the palate with a smooth bitterness of black tea (not flowery though). I would have it again. It satisfies.
3.3 Ko?uch g?stej piany. Zapach s?odki, niezbyt mocny, czekolada i rodzynki. W smaku mleczna czekolada, lekka palono??, ciemny chleb, troch? kawy, brakuje nuty owocowej. Troch? ma?o cia?a, poza tym poprawnie.
4.8 Poured from a 12 OZ can into a pint glass at the World of Beer in Pooler, GA. The appearance is a pitch black color with a huge brown head. The aroma is roasted malt. The taste is big on malt and very flavorful. An outstanding porter.
3.6 Can. Roasted oak, vanilla, malt, acidic hop. Pale English porter. Clean and bubbly.
3.6 Can @ Tokyu Foodshow. Pours black with massive dark beige head. Aroma is sweet and roasted. Bitter roasted taste with some chocolate notes and dried fruits. Medium mouthfeel, smooth texture and low carbonation. Good balance.
3.3 Lata. Deep dark brown clear like colour with a medium beige ehad. Roasty like aroma of malt and caramel with some darl fruit to it. Flavour is soft with well toasted maltiness and caramel, some chocolate and dark fruit, medium short lasting bitterness. Good but bit thin.
