3.4 Fruity notes. Cinnamon touches. Nuts and caramel and red wine flavor. Warming alcohol. Dry and alcohol-sweet aftertaste. Bit unusual spicy mix taste but not bad. I didn’t feel coconut that many people are talking about. Reddish brown color. Quite bad label.
2.5 Bottle. Pours amber with a white head. A very sweet aroma of caramel, cocoa, dried fruit, coconut and spice. The flavour is sweet malt, caramel, fruit and alcohol. Overly sweet mouthfeel, and pepper on the palate. It’s a little strange and lacking balance to be enjoyed. One bottle was more than enough.
3.5 Not sure why nobody likes this, I thought it was pretty tasty and with me hating xmas pud, therev was enough flavour for it to be close but not enough for it to be unappealing to me. I’ll agree that it’s not quite right but I like it. Butterscotch, rum present which is a little odd but the xmas pud ingredients in there is quite good.
3.0 Bottle. Copper colour with a beige head. Aroma is dried fruits, caramel. Flavour is sweet, malt, hop, dried fruits, caramel. Medium body. OK beer.
1.9 Orangey brown with a long-lived beige head. A really odd cheesy aroma with hints of rubber. If this resembles a Christmas pudding it is a very cheap one. Not much in the actual flavour except the inescapable rubber. It has a nice boozy rum & raisin aftertaste. I find it to prickly on the tongue. A pretty silly beer overall, a not-very-good attempt at novelty.
3.3 Bottle. A clear, copper beer with a small, beige head. Nutty nose with dried fruits, caramel and some chocolate. The flavor is more on the caramel side, with the nuts still present. Cake, dried fruits and hops too, quite low on bitterness. Medium body, surprisinlgy dry considering all the sweet flavors. A quite nice beer, but it gets uninteresting rather rapidly, maybe it needs some food. (081229)
2.5 edium brown look with a light born head. Medium sweet aroma mainly of toffee along with caramel, vanilla and nuts. Flavor is acctually light and freah, almost feels like a bottom fermented beer. The light malty base is backed up by lots of sweet flavors again, with the toffee being the dominant one.
3.3 Aroma: lots of crystal malty notes with a hint of fruity hop. Appearance: crystal clear amber red with a tan head and patchy lacing. Flavour: Cocunit and bready notes with plentiful sweet crystal malt. Palate: thick and gently carbonated nice
3.6 Bottle. Dark copper, off-white head.Fruity aroma with dry toffee. Raisins, toffee, rum, sugar, chocolate. Still dry enough finish. Maybe a bit light-bodied. A very complex beer that wants to be a lot.
3.1 Clear deep amber with a medium off white head. Sweet somewhat mlty aroma with hints of floral hops. Sweet malty flavour with caramel and floral hops. Finished mild bitter.
3.3 Botella. Deep dark brown clear colour with a nice brown head, good lacing. Sweet deep malty spiced dark fruity aroma. Good mouthfeel. the flavour has softly roasty malt and plenty of caramel, spices, dark fruits and some coconut. Pudding beer allright. A nice different Christmas brew.
2.9 Another Xmas beer that I tried on Xmas day. Dark reddish brown body, raisin and sugar on the aroma, caramel and dried fruit again in the taste. Finished it but it didnt do much for me.
2.4 Bottle at home. Clear dark amber - white head. High malty, candy, caramel, nutty, bubblegum, spicy, high metallic, dried fruits, fruity, high sweetness, butterscotch.
3.1 Bottle. Clear red/amber colour with large creamy off-white mostly lasting head. Malty aroma with notes of caramel. Sweet bitter flavor. Bitter finish.
4.1 I expected this was going to be a heavy and sickly sweet beer, basically liquid Christmas pudding, and not very beer-like at all, but instead it was a pleasant surprise. The beer was a chestnut brown color with a light sand colored head. With hints of nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, and/or cloves, the flavor was lightly spiced, and just a bit sweet. The mouth feel is thin, although not to the point of being watery. Very drinkable.
2.0 Appearance: Dark redish brown. Nice amount of head. Aroma: Like Christmas pudding. Sweet, some coconut. Taste: Wow. Christmas pudding, jam, coconut. Bit of hops. Too sweet. Info: 500ml bottle, 6/12-2007
2.7 Kokos (underligt men knapt så slemt som det lyder), karamel malt. OK bitterhed. Rimelig frisk, men den lidt mærkelige kokossmag dominerer for meget - specielt i eftersmagen.
3.4 50 cL bottle. Pours slight hazy yet golden amber with alacing light tan head. Raisin and brown sugar sweet aroma - light cinnamon note, yes - plumcake. Solid spiced cinnamon flavour. Rather dry yet with fruity notes. No sweetness or what is drowns into the dry spice flavours. Ends with a nose-reaching herbal spiced flavour. Quite unique and certainly a beer that would go well with traditional Christmas cakes. While I’ve been bashing other x-mas brews, that have been to spiced, before - this one if nice - yet it doesn’t do to well on its own but does compliment a sweet cake well.
2.4 Bottle 0,5l at Dirty Dick’s Bishposgate 10 Feb 08. Dark mahogany colored. A huge fluffy head that lasted. Lot of filigrees on the glass. Heavy aroma of sweet malt. Sweet fruity flavor - like a cake. Sourish bitter finish with hints of caramel. A bit too different.
3.0 Bottle, 5.5%. Weak spicy aroma. Clear dark brown colour, small stable light brown head. Coconut flavour, slightly malty, not as sweet as expected. Finish is slightly thin. OK mouthfeel.
3.4 Nose of malt, spice and sugar. pours a copper colour beer with a beige head. Taste of sugar, malt, syrup, spice, herbs, mint with some alcohol. A nice body very festive and in my mind somewhat underrated.
2.3 Bottle. Pours a deep chestnut colour with a big white head. Strong aroma of coconut and icing sugar that strangely carries over into the flavour too. Given the alcoholic strength it is thin and watery and there is not really any Christmas pudding flavour present. This is really substandard and a let down by Youngs usual standards. If you want a Christmas beer from Youngs, pick up a bottle of Old Nick or Double Chocolate Stout instead.
2.8 Bottle. Pours a handsome deep red colour with a fairly thick and long-lasting off-white head. Aromas of dried fruits and a somewhat odd appearance of coconut. This translates into the flavour as well. It leaves an odd perfumey taste on the tongue after the notes of coconut and fruit has cleared. This gets a touch cloying towards the end of the bottle. Rather different but drinkable and easy on the palate.
2.2 Bottle 500ml from Waitrose Christchurch. Well, this one looked interesting but, oh dear, what a let down! Aroma of stale fruit cake with added yeast. Pours brown with a small beige head. My god, this tastes like the fruit cakes that my Auntie kept in her cupboard. Fair enough, except she used to store the damn things for ever! Not particularly memorable on the palate, either. Sorry Youngs, a thumbs down from me.
3.3 Bottled 50cl. It pours a nut brown beer with a average sized beige head. Full rich nose with hints of molasses and licorice. Figs, jam tarts, raisins, almonds and soap in the taste. A decent amount of coconut too. Slightly metallic. The jam tart-like elements really add to the taste. Some hoppiness shows up just before a bitter buttery finish. Nice lacing.
2.7 Vintage 2004, 3 years old. (didn’t improve with the ears.)[Shared on tuesday night in Odense with Marky Mark.] AroFlavor of coconuts and bubblegum. Strangers in the night or worse might be the result of this judgement. Murky and rotty look. Christmas eve is far away.
1.7 Bottle.50cl. This was a drain pour, it was horrendous. like one said (It tasted like christmas fruitcake in a blender) And it did.
3.6 Deep brown coloured ale, with a malty aroma, rich chocolate and dried fruit indertones. TK2 27/12/07 ... Deep ruby ... rich malty nose ... mouth feel is too fizzy which is a shame ... lots of malt ... little spice ... rich fruit and orange peel . .. and a Huge coconut finnish 3.3->3.6
1.9 Has this one Dec-06 in Luzern (from DTW). Big dissapointment. It tasted like christmas fruitcake in a blender. Way too sweet and spices were overpowering instead of suble. Almost a drain pour!
1.7 Vintage 2004. Reddish brown color and an OK head. Aroma and flavour is a mix of spice and fruits in a IMO rather artificial way. I have never tasted a Christmas Pudding, but let me put it this way: If this is the taste, I’ll definitely avoid it...
