3.0 Rated from old notes. Contrary to the deScription this is not a full bodied brew. A bit thin, but not unpleasant, with a roasted malt flavor. Pleasant.
3.7 Dark brown color with tan head. Malty, roasted aroma. Slightly chocolate flavor. Mild malty flavor with a medium body and finsh. very little carbonation.
3.2 (Bottle). Recognizable Yuengling malt with deeper roasted flavor. A lighter styled Porter.
3.7 Light roasted chocolate aroma.Black bodied with a light tan thin head. Like the aroma it is modestly roasted chocolate malt tasting. Thin bodied with average carbonation. Mild sweetness in the background. A welcoming and drinkable Porter.
2.4 Almost black color with a light beige head. Roasted aroma. A deep sweet flavour with some roasted notes. Nah not my porter. [Bottle in Manchester, England]
3.0 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured dark almost black brown, light brown head. Nose is mostly roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is consistent with nose, some roasted malts, some chocolate also some coffee. Enjoyable, drinkable but certainly not spectacular.
3.1 12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown, nearly opaque. With a very good tan head. Revising an old standard here and I’m not disappointed. Then again, I remember a marginally poor beer and this is decent. It does lack flavor, seeming made with minimal malts for style.
3.3 Coffee brown with brown head. Roasty aroma. Slightly thin, roasty malt flavor. Earthy hop. Nothing offensive but a little bland.
3.2 In my first review I stated "It is what it is". But after trying it again for the 3rd-4th time it is growing on me. It’s actually a decent porter, especially for a mass produced non-microbrew. I don’t mind the regular Yuengling (especially compared to other domestics like Bud, Coors, etc.), so I decided to give it’s porter a try since I am a big fan of porters. This almost has the appearance of a stout....a nice dark brown near black. I would also say that this taste more like a mild stout rather than a porter. Sweet and caramely with a hint of chocolate from the oats. Compared to the regular Yuengling, I’d say that this is better. For the price it isn’t bad at all.
3.2 Black pour with a lasting tan head. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla and vegetable. Flavor has chocolate and some decent roast overtones. Pretty high carbonation but decent mouthfeel. Lingering vanilla, oily finish. Pretty good for a macro and actually close stylistically. Needs more body and less carbonation but otherwise pretty decent.
2.9 Rootbeer color with faint caramel aroma. Taste is very plain, no chocolate, no roast, no coffee, slight caramel. Palate is clean and smooth but thin. Beer #6 in a mixed pack of 6 dark beers. The weakest flavor of the bunch but I prefer it over the two that were very roasted/smokey. If you like this beer take a look at Saranac Black Forest.
3.1 12oz bottle from Wegmans, Buffalo, NY. A deep mahogany colour with a reddish glow and a ring of cream head; caramel aroma with a hint of chocolate; soft smooth caramel taste with a touch of spicy; and a tracely finish. A reasonable porter.
1.6 Pours very dark with dark tan head that is short-lived. Taste of caramel is most prevalent. Leaves a bitter metallic after taste on the tongue.
3.2 Bottle, black with decent tan head. Roasted malt nose. Chocolate up front, dry roast finish. Slightly coats the tongue. One of the better standards by Americas oldest.
3.6 Pours a dark molasses color with no head retention and no lacing. Tastes malty and of chocolate. A smooth finish makes this a solid porter.
3.3 "a little more chocolate and coffee present in the aroma and flavor, with a decent but slightly overcarbonated body. near black in color, and pretty aromatic. nicely done, if not a standout."
4.0 not the best but easy to find and easy to drink best beer yuedling makes and I can find it every where I buy this everywhere so I love it !
2.3 Pours dark mahogany with a one finger caramel head that dissipates too quickly with zero lacing in the glass. Aroma is mostly roasted malt. Taste is roasted malt and maybe a bit of caramel and metal. There’s a smoky finish but not in a good way. I really like Yuengling Lager as my go to "slumming" beer, but this one is not very good.
3.0 Pours a dark brown with some frothy tan head. Aroma of toasted malt and caramel. Body is a bit thin with roasted sweetness and a smooth oily finish
2.6 Hint of roasty caramel/molasses on the nose. Redish ebony on the pour with a head that leaves quicklly. Roasty sweet malt first. Smooth. Finishes sweet and dry. Slick mouth feel. Average.
3.7 It had a very dark brown almost black colored body that is nearly opaque. It formed a thin, light tan head with excellent retention and very good lacing. The aroma is full of dark roasted malts with a smoky character and hints of burnt coffee and a touch of hops. the roasted malt has a slight sweetness that mostly covered up by the roasted smoky/burnt notes. There is a nice bitterness from the hops that comes out more towards the finish, which is dry and slowly fades off the tongue. The body is about medium with a smooth texture and carbonation is about average.
3.2 Transferred from 3-9-12 - Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The brew was served a very dark brown color which when held up to the lights show hints of red. The head that is present upon serving is tan and quite light in nature. The head fades fast leaving a thin film on the brew with some light lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell – The smell is exceedingly light. There is however the slightest amount of roasted coffee and chocolate combined with a tiny bit of sweetness. Taste – The taste is rather roasted malt in nature with hints of coffee, cocoa, and some nuttiness. There is a very subtle sweeter chocolate that is present in the beginning but fades as the taste advances to leave a rather dry finishing porter. Mouthfeel – The body is on the moderate side with a lower level of carbonation. It is actually much creamier then I would have originally expected for the abv. and fits the porter style quite nicely. Overall- While not the most flavorful and robust porter out there, for the price you pay this is one fantastic brew. It’s easy to drink and has some rather nice characteristics. A very good session beer.
3.1 Really not bad. Its a little thin and a little like a standard lager with a little chocolate malt thrown in, but I don’t mind drinking it. It’s kind of like a summer porter.
2.7 Rated on 3-30-2011 (Bottle purchased at Total Wine & More-Ft. Myers, FL) When poured, the head is small, very fizzy and tan. The body is opaque black and my glass has one ring of lacing. The aroma is roasty, burnt malt. The taste is roasted coffee, chocolate and malt. The mouthfeel is lively and this beer is light-medium bodied. This beer lacks character and flavor. The flavor is semi-light for the style and overall falls short for the style.
2.9 Just catching up on some old ratings from Untappd -- First rated on 14 May 2011.
2.7 From a 12 oz bottle into a glass at home, poured a dark brown color with a average light brown head that faded quickly.A very light roast in the nose.Medium thin body with average carbonation.Kept waiting for the flavor but it never got around to showing up. Reminded me of the days of drinking yellow beer.
2.4 Bottle @ home, courtesy of BoostIPA. Thanks boost! Pours a dark brown, clear appearance with a brown head. Toffee, caramelized sugar, a touch fruity, earthy, chocolate aroma. A bit skunky, burnt sugar, chocolate, slightly bitter flavor. Not horrendous but definitely not a good porter.
2.9 Black body, medium to thin light tan head, spotty lacing. Chocolate, light roast, sweet grainy cereals. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, gentle sweetness in the finish.
3.8 DATE TASTED: December 19, 2013... GLASSWARE: Guinness pint...OCCASION: prep for The Desolation of Smaug with a review of another old favorite... APPEARANCE: as expected dark black with a dragon’s red eye when held to the light; head is two-fingered at the start; brown slush settles quickly; zero lacing.. AROMA: caramel, chocolate, and vanilla with some peaty notes--a rugged and ready mix of winter scents... PALATE: slick, medium-bodied; drinkable and soda-esque...TASTE: sugary slightly chocolaty and smoky, with some lactic presence too--a balanced, pleasant experience...OVERALL: like The Hobbit\, this beer doesn’t disappoint, despite repeated viewings--er, tastings--and though the critic in me knows bigger, bolder, more unique porters exist, I find Yuengling’s version more sessionable, less demanding and in line with the spirit of the genre--fortified ale for the working man...
3.0 Decent but not overly flavorful. This is the best I have had from Yuenglijng. A little bit sweet, the maltiness is a decent beer. Short aftertaste.
