2.3 Whelp. Another one that was hyped and ended up just being meh. Kinda reminds me of Guinness.
1.6 Poured from bottle into Tulip L Black with decent beige head S Strangely fruity with hints of chocolate and coffee T A weird sweetness to it that I don't expect in a porter, corn syrup maybe? Usually cheaper Stouts and porters have a hard time covering up the taste of alcohol for me this one is no different. On the back end coffee and chocolate. F Well carbonated one of the few things it has going for it, the slightest amount of bitterness on the back end, and very light almost watery which is not something I'm looking for in this style. Overall I'm disappointed, spend the extra 3 dollars and get a 6 pack of real porters instead of this watered down stuff.
3.8 smooth and goes down easy. for the price, about a good a deal youll get
3.8 Dark roasted. Kinda like Guinness. Smooth. Treated on wilson cousins trip. Decent
3.1 16 oz can pours an almost opaque dark brown with small tan head that leaves only a bit of lacing. Aroma has toasted malts, vanilla, chocolate, corn, and perhaps oatmeal. Taste is slightly bitter all the way through, with a slightly metalliic finish - sort of like Guinness watered down with a cheap midwestern pale ale. Body is light to medium with average carbonation. I wasn't expecting anything more than a mass-produced cheap porter, and that's exactly what this delivers.
3.0 Plain, dry, but inoffensive. Pours black w/ a retaining beige head & decent lacing. The aroma has a slight roastiness to it. The flavor is dark & dry malt. No hop bitterness but an unusual dryness that isn’t great. The mouthfeel is fine & overall there’s nothing that stands out!
4.5 Poured from 12 oz bottle into shaker glass. A 1" frothy tan head drops slowly with nearly no lacing. Color is red-brown. Aroma of roasted malt and grain sweetness with herbal, earthy hops in the background. Mouthfeel is medium, a bit syrupy, with a dry powdery finish. Flavors of chocolate, cream, raisin, dark fruit, richly toasted malt. Overall: very pleasant.
4.6 Ok, I understand everyone who reads this is gonna say, this guy has no idea about beer. Here’s the deal, this is a domestic mass produced beer on a level and price point much like all the usual suspects ( bud light, coors, Miller) and so forth. The difference is there are very, very limited “porter style” Black and Tans for the price point and availability. This beer is like 10$ for a 12 pack of bottles. It tastes very much like a craft beer that is at a price point of 16-20$ a 12 pack. What I’m trying to convey here is if you love craft porter style or I dare to even say stouts, this is a suburb bang for your buck! It gets a high rating for me because if you took the label off the beer and poured it in a snifter and handed it to someone they would think it was a very good craft beer. Then you tell them that it’s Yuengling and every grocery store in the state has it for under 12$ they immediately say it’s cheap garbage. Quit being a beer snob, go and open mindedly try this beer and then try to tell yourself this isn’t a great brew. This is the best beer I’ve had that is mass produced. Great job Yuengling!!!
3.5 Pretty comparable to Michelob Amber Bock, but not nearly as good. It's nice cheap dark beer that goes down effortlessly -- if that's possible! Also has a similar smell to Michelob.
2.9 Bottle. Pours dark brown-black. Some light roasted malt aroma. Light roasted malt flavor. Lighter body.
0.7 although i confess iam spoiled on Imperial Stouts and Double IPA's,you truly get what you pay for,and being a guy that is looking for a bargain,i bought a six of this for 7.50$,thinking maybe this would be a good bargain porter, well,it wasn't,it was thin, watery, fizzy, and any flavor that it had came in pockets to my taste buds like oil globs that float on top of water,i should have known that this was going to be a gimmick porter,i should have spent an extra three dollars or so and got a real craft porter, sometimes a bargain is not a bargain after all
3.4 Pours a very dark brown, barely some light shining through. One finger brown head. Okay retention. Aroma is light chocolate, light licorice, light vanilla. Maybe some nuts. Dark malts. Taste is much of the same. Dark malts, light chocolate, light vanilla. Tastes like a watered down porter. Mouthfeel is light medium and watery. Light chalk. Mostly smooth. Overall, it’s good. It’s enjoyable and easy and fun to drink. I’d buy it again and I would recommend it.
2.9 Bottle at Pats of Henderson. Very dark. A little thin. Roasty with corn and some chocolate. Eh.
2.9 Decent beer that's smooth and inoffensive. Watery tho but that is to be expected
2.7 (12oz bottle) AROMA: light roasted malt, touch of coffee, APPEARANCE: very dark brown with red undertones, almost black, coffee colred foam, lingers on side of glass TASTE: a bit of sweet malt/corn, a little toasted grain, caramel, bran, hint of prunes PALATE: not heavy, light and frizzy upfront, smooth and watery finish OVERALL: basically tastes like a heavy lager with some roasted malt qualities (a schwarzbeir), kinda blah for a porter, if lookimg for a light/easy dark beer can give this a try
2.3 12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy dark brown. Small tan head. Aroma is light toasted malt. Bitter, toasted and metallic. Dark malt and metallic into a roasted finish.
1.7 Bottle from Tops. Brownish with a tan head. Toasted malts, molasses, bread. Fairly sweet. A bit light bodied. So so.
1.6 A good tasting beer. Mild vanilla taste noticed. Good flavor. More robust than your average USA craftie with all their silly hops. There is more to beer than just hops. 7/2019 - has a good flavor, but Im not enjoying it as much. Not sure why. The flavor is still a good beer taste without all the goofy hops craftie silliness. Im thankful for THAT. But, I am just not sold on the taste as much as I was. I like German beers, rather than an overly hoppy craft BS USA taste. Thanks for the beer. Enjoyed it. They use GMO ingredients?? It appears they do - bummer. Nice site, thanks for allowing beer lovers to post simple reviews and not have to rate according to the 50 "accepted" measures of a review (based on all sorts of odd characteristics of the beer) as is done by some sites that claim to be your "advocate".
2.1 Very disappointed!!! I have been drinking this beer for a very long time. I think 16 or maybe 18 years. I loved the old Black and Tan beer with the dark brown label. It never disappointed. It was very solid dark well made beer! However, the last time I bought the beer it has a brand new white label. The taste has been watered down and it does not taste like the old beer. It just has a hint of its old taste. Too much water it changed so much it is a different beer. What a shame! You can not fool me! I will not be buying it any more. I will take my business some other place. Plenty of good beers out there.
2.9 Can. Pours a dark brown with fair head that leaves a bit of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, bit of vanilla and grain. taste of caramel, malt with bit of vanilla and grain. Mild bitterness and fairly clean finish. Moderate boy, smooth, bit of malty character but seems a bit watery.
3.1 From old tasting notes. Labeled as "Yuengling Half & Half Dark Beer". Clear reddish brown color topped by a light brown head. Subtle sweet malt aroma with a touch of graininess. Flavor is sweet toasted malt, but light. Lightly complex and flavorful. Brief sweet malt finish. Light bodied.
3.0 12 oz bottle served in a snifter. Pours clear but very dark red-brown with a decent head that leaves little lacing. Smooth medium body with medium-light carbonation. Decades ago, living in Pennsylvania, this was my go to cheap beer. I don’t think the quality has declined, but the competition sure has risen. Overall: probably still the best brew from Yuengling, but certainly not worth seeking out.
3.0 Pours dark brown with minimal head. Aroma is cheep lager. Taste is medium bodied malts with a similar finish.
3.0 12 oz via bottle. Dark, creamy and smooth with notes of chocolate, mild caramel/toffee and light vanilla. Moderately sweet with minimal bitterness. A little thin on the palate. Not bad overall.
3.4 Bottle. Black in color with a tan head that disipated quickly. Roasted malt aroma with dark chocolate, coffee and light toast notes. It is a bit watery but has a smooth finish.
3.3 Color of a cola, very dark. I am not a big fan of dark beers, but this one isn’t strong tasting. As a previous review said, it tastes part porter and part lager. Somewhat bitter but not overwhelming. Actually not a bad beer - recommended if you like porters.
3.3 Good dark malt smell...Taste is dark malt, lightly bitter...low hops and low to medium flavor..A bit watery finish but smooth...Gaining depth and mouthfeel with warmth and Improving.. got too warm at end and got bad again....definitely a sweet spot in temp for this beer...inravellers rest for Ashley’s grandmother’s funeral x2 3/24/17 to 4/18/22...tax day this year which I came to polliwogs to celebrate...Busy at polliwogs because it's trivia night... Didn't see a bar stool at first but then the one next to British guy was open...I point to it and he just screams "SHUT UP AND SIT DOWN!!!" 🤣🤣
3.3 12 ounce bottle. Deep brown in color. Aroma of roasted malt and raw dough. Taste the malt, not overwhelming. Very smooth with a hint of chocolate. Very nice porter.
3.0 Pours a black from a bottle, toffee and toast aroma, similar flavor with a bit of coffee. Good beer.
3.8 ...a pleasing commercial beverage that is generally available in many markets
