Yukon Midnight Sun Espresso Stout

Yukon Midnight Sun Espresso Stout

Hearty northern people love a hearty stout beer. We’ve teamed up wtih Yukon’s famous Midnight Sun Coffee Roaster to create this special blend. Originally developed for "Bean Queen" Zola Dore in a small batch kettle system by Yukoner Mitt Stehelin, we’ve retained the artisan qualities of this unique, unfiltered brew. The robust taste of this hearty stout starts with the smooth glide of real espresso and finishes with a dry chocolatey malt flavour. Why the big bottle? You’ll love it so much, you’ll want to share it with a friend, or not!

3.4 Bottle. A dark brown beer with a small, dense, dark beige head. Mostly clear. The aroma has a lovely mocha scent at first, but after a while I’m not really sure how nice it is. There’s some vegetal hints in the back, there’s roasted malts and dark chocolate, but it’s mocha that dominates. It’s a bit thin on the palate, it’s soft and smooth and semi-dry. Mocha, dark chocolate and a little roasted kind of bitterness in the flavor, all lasting for a good while. Overall, a fine brew, but it’s a bit ordinary and it lacks body. Drinks easy though. 150613
3.5 Bottle 341ml @ Motel room, Crystal Inn, Niagara Falls, ON Pours dark brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of light roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and caramel. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long coffee, caramel and chocolate finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.
3.7 Pours a murky dark brown/black with a large creamy tan head. Aromas of earthy espresso and roasted malt. Tastes of sweet espresso with caramel malt, chocolate and a light hoppy finish. Thin to medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel.
3.5 341 ml bottle. Pours an opaque, dark brown, almost black with a small, short lived, brown head. Heavy coffee aroma with roasted malt. Heavy coffee flavour with sweet notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate, liquorice and a dry, bitter finish. Medium body with a creamy, smooth texture and soft carbonation.
3.4 Draft. opaque, dark black, thin tan head. Strong roast aroma, almost burnt, coffee. Tate is a bit thin, spicy, and still lots of roast.
3.6 Midnight pour with a barely there head. Aroma and taste of espresso, dark chocolate and a bit of peppery spice.
3.4 Aroma is roasty malts, caramel, vanilla and some espresso. Taste is similar to aroma but it finishes somewhat flat and very light on mouthfeel . Appearance is black with a thin pearl head that retains fairly poorly.
3.8 Bottle shared with my brother in-law. Pours an opaque colour, light tan head that dies to a ring, some minor flecks of lace. Nose is strong coffee flavour, a little sweet malt, coffee is really dominant. Tastes sweet, coffee bitter, quite rich coffee flavour.
4.7 Pours an opaque black robe topped by a finger or so of moka head. The nose delivers tons of roasted coffee beans and burnt toasts paired with strong dark chocolate, challenging an imperial russian stout. The taste is bold and coarse with strong coffee, bitter dark chocolate and nutty features in the back. This is a hearty stout with the flavour profile of an imperial russian stout. The bitterness is not overwhelming, but be warned it is pretty powerful.
3.7 Bottle from kbudd. Thanks Kevin. Black with no head. Heavy coffee nose. A bit of chocolate and roasted malt. Tastes of coffee, sweet chocolate, roasted malt, a hint of bitterness on the back end. Oily mouthfeel. This has been in the fridge since RBSG and has held up nicely.
4.1 Sampled during RBSG. From notes. Coffee, chocolate and caramel dominates. Some odd green coffee thing in there too.
3.5 341 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with moderate tan head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of dark chocolate, coconut, and heavily roasted malts. Flavors of watery black coffee, bitter acidic nuts, and roasted barley. A little metallic.
4.0 I would live in the Yukon just because of this beer. Pour black with a very small tan head. Aroma is of big coffee and roasted barley. Tastes of coffee, dark chocolate, and roasted barley. Has a medium body with low carbonation. I found it kind of dry, but smooth as well with a great espresso aftertaste. Perfect for dessert.
3.6 9am wake up call on Cascades 501 from Tacoma to Portland Union, thanks to Ferris for the Province tick, 08/11/14. Black with a dirty tan covering. Nose is big coffee grinds, roast malt, spice, dark toffee, cocoa nibs. Taste comprises earthy roast, black pepper, nice coffee presence, cappucino. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, roasty coffee close. Decent coffee lead stout.
3.7 Pours dark enough to blot out the sun. Leaves very little head or lacing. Tastes of espresso, dark chocolate, roasted nuts and dark fruits. A classic brew.
4.3 Wowie! A new brewery, a new province/territory and a damn fine beer all in one? Rare as, mate! From the get go after one whiff, I knew I was in for a good time. A huge and hearty blast of rich smelling, smooth dark roast coffee mingles with chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, smoke and burnt toffee. The blackest liquid rests beneath a thin tan head that laces lusciously. Once you get this beast in your yap you realize you get to taste everything you just smelled and the oily, full body and mildly warming booze will keep you powered through a Winter cruel.
4.0 Definitely for coffee lovers, it takes the roasted goodness of your typical stout to the extreme, for a very nice, smooth tasting and highly aromatic coffee stout. yum."
3.9 This was poured into a nonic. The appearance was a pure black color with a creamy to slight tan one finger head. Messy lacing stuck and then slid after a decent amount of warming. The smell had a large amount of espresso, roasty and bitter. A light sweet milk chocolate balances nicely. The taste was balanced between the roasty, the sweet and the bitter. Everything just seemed right with the flavor. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with even a slight sessionability about it. A nice roasted espresso coffee bean rolled across my tongue. Overall, a really nice espresso stout probably showing itself as Yukon’s best one.
3.8 Pitch black with a shy tanned head. Strong coffee, black chocolate, smoked nuts, candied dark fruit. Bitter taste with some nice sweetness. Medium body with a thin texture, nice carbonation.
3.3 Bottle courtesy of Solidfunk, thanks! Brown color, brown head. Aroma of cocoa and coffee. Taste has more coffee than cocoa. Not bad.
3.7 This is a nice way to finish my Yukon Brewery tasting. Pours like coffee with a light tan head. Nose is almost pure coffee, a hint of cocoa and caramel. The bitter coffee really dominates, and it’s got a hint of staleness to it, like coffee grinds instead of coffee, but it’s somehow still pleasant. Taste is bang on though. Rich coffee and chocolate, caramel, treacle, roasted nuts, some spice. A tiny bit dry but it’s more bitter coffee than hops that linger.
3.9 Bottle from JulienHuxley, thanks! Almost black, strong chocolate, malt and espresso aroma. Full bodied. Malty sweet flavor with fresh coffee and berries. Very nice beer, could be a bit more refined.
4.0 Bottle thanks to Nielsen ! Pours a rich burnt umber color with two fingers of khaki gaseous foam. Nose has a nice soft mix of roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate, fresh coffee and a hint of pumpernickel bread. Palate follows with nice layers of flavors but extreme balance/ Smooth creamy mouthfeel with perfect carbonation. Just a pleasurable beer to drink, was just gonna tick it before bed but I finished this with ease !
3.4 Good mix of coffee and barley malt, not all one or the other. Cola brown, thin tan head. Coffee and soil flavor. Light body and astringent. Good intensity of flavor and aroma.
3.6 Bottle thanks to solidfunk. Thanks for the tick! Aroma was some green coffee notes. Flavor was roasted malts, coffee. Nice and easy to drink, not too bitter. Tasty.
3.6 341 ml bottle shared with JulienHuxley, Borresteijn & caesar @ Julien’s Klein Maar Fijn tasting. Black color. Beige head. Aroma’s of ground coffee, mocha, sweetness, light fruit, roast. Flavor is moderate sweet, roasted. Light to medium bodied. Finishes with lots of roast, moderate bitter. Very pleasant.
3.5 34cl Bottle, tfs JulienHuxley! Dark brown to black colour, beige head. Aroma of espresso, coffee, some chocolate brownie. Flavour is less coffee then expected, chocolate, malts, roast, some espresso, bitter finish. Light-bodied. Smooth and easy.
4.0 Bottled thx to Julien @ Julien’s neighbour is a metalhead according to Rob-tasting, small sample. Dark brown color, short frothy head. Aroma of coffee, dark malts, mocha. Slight sweet, medium bitter. Love the coffee and chocolate combination in this one. Great beer.
