ZiegenBock Texas Amber

ZiegenBock Texas Amber

Our Texas Amber is an
American-style amber lager, pouring
dark but brewed to be smooth and
medium bodied. A blend of U.S. and
imported hops imparts a hint of
bitterness to balance out the malty
sweetness from darker malts, giving
it a crisp yet sweet finish.

2.5 Well... If your options are extremely limited this isn't horrible. Nice amber color and nothing offensive about this beer. Just meh.
2.8 Tall boy Can at Minute Maid park Houston Texas. Pours a dark black color with malty light drinking flavor. Not too heavy
1.8 Bottle. I think this was one of my favorite beers during the early revolution against macro-lagers in the late 1980s. I haven't had the opportunity to drink it in a long time. I wonder if isn't now the same as Michelob's AmberBock? It's a medium-brown colored beer, thin pour, little head. Highly starchy, generally macro-brewed character. Cleanly made but boring. (#7039, 5/2018) Earlier Rating: 3/3/2003 Total Score: 2.5 Dark brown with a chocolate/cappucino head. Rather flat tasting with less character than A-B's Michelob Amber Bock. Bare hint of coffee. Bare beer, aimed at the mass markets. I was disappointed, but it's still better than many mass-produced products.
3.0 Originally rated using the RateBeer application on my phone. For some reason errors erased my notes and made it a tick. I no longer have the reference notes.
5.0 Maybe I’m biased but I loooooove this beer. I’ll reach for this beer before I go for any old domestic.
2.7 terry Black's can: pours brown with an off-white head. Aroma is malty and lightly fruity. Taste is sweet and sort of fruity in a weird way. Not very good but plenty drinkable.
3.1 Decent aroma, and nice taste. Smooth and low-medium body. 12oz bottle version is crisp but also mellow. A good beer.
4.2 Good beer very drinkable. Smooth with some actual flavor. Yummy yummy in my tummy.
2.7 Very average beer. Faint aromas and flavors of mild malt and some earthy to mes. Low hops. Better than cheap beer but dumbed down. Earlier Rating: 2/17/2015 Total Score: 1.9 No aroma detected but a faint sense of old barley. Average bock/amber color with a foamy head. Taste was somewhat bland with a slight toasted hint. Light palate with strong carbonation. Is it better than a macro pale lager? Is that saying much? No.
2.6 Not a bad beer. I think people confuse this with a traditional boch when it is more of a red/amber. Better the Amberboch.
3.2 Can. Must be a new label because this beer has been around for years. Clear, dark reddish amber color. Not as sweet on the aroma but does have bready, toasty notes. Light adjunct notes/corn. Flavor is a light sweetness mixed with low metallic notes. Grainy, smooth finish. Medium-Light body. Earlier Rating: 3/4/2009 Total Score: 4.5 Another great Texas beer. A nice American Dark Lager brewed exclusively for Texans. Love it
2.6 Smooth taste Great Bach Easy drink If it's summer time and you need a refreshing beer to drink that doesn't taste like piss, go for this one. It's light enough with plenty of flavor and is amazing on tap
3.2 Bottle courtesy of Cybercat, thank you ma’am! Clear amber brown color, light tan head with decent retention and fine lacing. Peppery caramel aroma. Taste is sweet lightly toasted caramel biscuit. Tasty.
3.1 12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear dark copper with a decent beige head. ARoma of malt and caramel. Taste is malt, caramel, and some yeast. Decent. Earlier Rating: 3/1/2012 Total Score: 2.5 12 ounce bottle from a trip to Texas. Pours a dark amber/brown with an average tan head. Aroma of malt and grain. Taste is sweet malt, caramel, and grain. Mediocre. Shiner is way better.
3.3 From the 12 fl oz bottle. Nice looking medium amber pour with short lasting off-white head. Big malt sweetness on the nose as well as a roasted quality and a hint of moss. Light to medium body. Very sweet flavor with nearly invisible bitterness to finish.
2.6 12 oz bottle. #ADCJBG. (Fiesta) Austin, TX. Clear copper color with a small white head. Sweet caramel malt, mild woody notes and some sugary notes in the aroma. The flavor is sweet malt, mild metal and caramel. Very easy.
3.2 Complimentary beer at the embassy suites north dfw. Poured into a plastic glass, Amber hue, minimal head. Lost of toasted malt, mild grass. Medium mouth. Okay.
2.3 No significant aroma, no hops or malt. Quite estery for a lager. The primary flavor is a light caramel, not appropriate for a Vienna. A bad copy of a Shiner bock, which is not a great beer to begin with.
2.2 Bottle - Pours deep amber, almost brown. I keep getting flat ass beers and this is yet another one. Typical amber lager/Vienna character - malty, some hops at the end, but this one is watery.
3.4 Bottle from a BBQ joint in San Antonio. Pours transparent copper with a thick white head. Aroma of malt, yeast and caramel. Tastes of toasted malt and caramel notes. Thin bodied and easy to drink. A good amber on a 104-degree day.
2.6 Pours clear, bubbly coppery with a thick but effervescent pale buff head. Aroma presents malty, yeasty and caramel tones. Wimpy flavor still manages to please with toasted malt and caramel notes. Where iz them hops? Mouthfeel has thin body and not much fizz. Well, give it a fair shake. Nice for a hot day in Texas - or elsewhere. Earlier Rating: 7/8/2013 Total Score: 3.2 Pours barely translucent cola brown, not much head. Aroma has malty and caramel notes and a hint of horehound. Flavor is mainly caramel with malty d horehound notes. Smooth, firm, fizzy texture finishes the experience. Overalll, not too shabby. Fine with lunch.
2.9 Had some of these at the house, then a bunch at a Rangers game. Enjoyed them more than most ambers. Fairly clean. Not terribly malty.
2.9 Pours a bronze/amber color. About two fingers tan colored head. Slight retention, very slight lacing. It is amber, but clear. Aroma is quite malrty. I smell medium roasted malts ,caramel, perhaps floral hops. Tastes good. Nothing wrong with the taste, it’s just...there. Sweet, not so malty though. Artificially sweetened? Weird. Metallic twang at the end. Something is not right. Mouthfeel is light and refreshing. That’s about all I have to say about that. Overall, it’s a beer that’s more amber than Bock. Not terrible. It’s good enough to drink again, but it’s not something I’ll be looking to buy. I’m not going to say to avoid it, but if you haven’t tried it, really, you’re not missing anything.
2.5 Dark amber with a thin white head. Lively carbonation. Thin body with a smooth mouth feel. Light caramel taste with hardly any noticeable hop bitterness although it’s there. Clean refreshing finish. Not bad for a Texas macro bock.
3.1 Pours deep copper with small white head. Aromas are sweet malts, grains, maybe some toffee. Lively carbonation, light body. Medium hoppy finish. Nothing exceptional here, but quite drinkable.
2.3 This is an ABInBev brewery. Pours a deep clear amber with just a thin white foam. Malty aroma with hints of bread and grain. Body has a good malt flavor initially followed by some grassy hop. Gets more pronounced as it goes. May want to stick to just a first sip.
2.4 Soild but unspectacular, not a bad beer although i consider it a bock lite since it lacks the strength and robust flavor of a true bock. Its o.k. when you consider the price.
1.0 As a Texan, I am offended by the very existence of this product. It was specifically made to take market share away from Shiner Bock, a brewery with a proud Texas heritage. It is the result of little more than a marketing scheme by the biggest marketer of beer in the world, based in Belgium and populated by Brazilian executives. Do not fall for their “Texan” spiel. This beer is an invasive species.
2.7 Pours dark copper with a bit of head. Clear. Yeasty aroma. Corn? Thin bodied. Pretty light. Low on bitter. Really not awful, just kind of bland. Could use hops.
4.3 Pours a clear amber color with a thick frothy head, very light carbonation. Has a light caramel scent, you can also smell the hops. The taste is smooth, you can taste the hops and a light caramel flavor as well.
