Zundert Trappist 8

Zundert Trappist 8

from english label:

Trappist ale brewed with spices. We brewed a beer that we describe as 'slightly unruly'--our Trappist 8 is a beer you must take time to understand. Chestnut-colored and bottle-conditioned, with aroma of herbs and spices; initially floral and slightly sweet; character develops from light caramel to a lovely, dry, hoppy bitterness as the flavor opens. Brewed within the walls of Zundert Trappist Monastery by monks.

3.9 Bottle pours hazy amber with a large lacy eggshell head. Aroma is sugar plums, dates, caramel, spice. Medium sweet fruity spiced Belgian flavor, light to medium earthy bitterness. Medium plus body, good carbonation. Solid Trappist if not the elite.
4.1 33cl bottle. smell is citric, very different from the biggest 10 beer, beautifull amber deep color, medium head, taste is very wheatty. Super good as usual. Trappist is always a killer! Congrat to those men of God.
3.8 I mean, no complaints on this one. Out of a bottle, but into the proper glass as selected by the waitress at this tiny No name hotel in… shcheddebeurs? Somewhere in the Netherlands anyway. Beautiful color, bready, a touch sweet, almost like cinnamon toast. Followed by tea? Just nails. Honestly though, I could be drinking dish soap in this beer garden and swear it was holy water. What a great place.
3.8 330ml bottle brewed in Holland at 8%. Slightly hazy red-amber turning to a light chestnut with sediment poured, with an ample, good-duration head and plenty of tiny bubbles. Lightly nutty caramel aroma developing sweet figgy and slight date scents; a little leafy, and almost a touch of tomato. Moderate carbonation due to the small size of the bubbles; quite pillowy. Caramel, a little deep nuttiness, stewed red berries, particularly strawberry, fig, rhubarb jam, sugar plums, a little breadcrust, and a herbaceous (basil?) candied bitter aftertaste that nicely doesn't overdo it, balanced with notes of vanilla. Very rich, and very complex. Unruly is right - sip it slowly and wrap your palate around it.
3.2 Bottle marked 08/04/24. Nose is sweet molasses, brown sugar, fig paste, dark bread, some nice flourishes there, good complexity. Pour clear amber but in the glass it's clear ruby (just leaning toward orange) with a sudsy beige head. Body surprisingly thin, touch fuselly but not airy, low bitterness with a little bread that reveals itself with time, low but notable alcohol, dry, somewhat digestible, but all the caramel and fruit and thickness are gone -- where did they go? Touch nutty and slightly 'beefy', which is not to say full-bodied or rich in umami, but there are some brothy flavor compounds that (barely) save the day; the lingering impression is probably of strong melanoidin, pump crusts, like a dark Bock, unexpected for style but a pleasant farewell, gets the job done. 3.9 Bottle from Last Drop Surprisingly good Trappist tripel. Darker pour, rich flavors driven by dried fruit rather than lighter esters. Spices are present but never intrusive. Actually pretty freaking great, all things considered. A cool new discovery.
4.8 Aroma of raisins, apples, yeast. Taste of yeast, raisins, forest fruits. Long lasting aftertaste. Very good beer.
3.7 Bottled from Department. Older bottle. Murky brown yellow pour. Fruits, slightly funky sour, yeast. Sugar. Good
3.7 Bottle from Systembolaget. A darker and sweeter "trappist" here. Nice drinking and booze is well hidden.
4.0 Bottle. Pours a hazy mahogany brown with a thin white head. Aroma of apple skins, light fruits, Belgian yeast, Belgian spices, raisin. Flavor of dark spices, raisin, Belgian spices, pepper, Belgian yeast, lots of rich malt. Very rich Belgian dark ale. 8/4/8/4/16 (4.0/5)
4.2 Bottle (many years out of date) from Craft Beer Oasis, Crewe – drunk at home. Pours a reddish copper with a sizeable but transient frothy cream head. Malts and crusty bread rolls constitute the aroma. In the mouth it has a creamy texture, with honey, treacle and bananas providing the flavouring. Also molasses, cloves and other spices – I keep finding more with each mouthful ! It took a while to get going, but this is excellent !
1.7 Aroma of baked banana bread crust, nuts, berry esters, and plastic wheat malt. Flavor has an assertive phenol presence. Medium body with high carbonation. Rich and bready, with a lot of Belgian yeast character.
3.5 Amber body with white head Aroma is honey malts ripe fruits. Taste is malts yeast caramel biscuits. Aftertaste is nice bitter balanced by some hoppy bitterness.
4.1 Darker straw body with a couple fingers of head. Aroma is lots of spice, malt, and grains. Taste is sweet caramel, toffee, spice. Texture is medium. Enjoyable and lots of flavor.
3.6 Ausgesprochen blumig in Nase und Trunk, Aprikosen, Orangen, sehr süffig, süß, sehr lecker.
3.8 Bottle from Beautiful Beers. Pours mahogany. Nose is brown sugar, caramel, candied orange, fruits, yeast. Tastes caramel, winter spices, candies sugar, some hoppy bitterness, light warming booze. Solid stuff.
3.8 Lekker, maar niet mijn keuze.
3.8 Chestnut pour with a rocky head and a whole lot of lacing …. Aroma of caramel malts/toffee, spices, fruity yeast, roasted malts and light dark fruits …. Taste is of fruity yeast, spices, caramel malts/toffee, roasted malts and light honey . Mouthfeel is soft and creamy for a tripel ….. finish is of spices, toffee, fruity yeast and roasted malts …. Like an amber and a tripel combined …. Love the soft mouthfeel
4.7 Meglio di Orval
3.0 Ambrée avec amertume mais goût comme IPA
3.7 Brown with a medium sized fluffy tan head. Sweet with toffee, honey, bread, dark fruit and a bit of astringency. Long finish. Medium body.
4.0 Couleur marron ocre, belle mousse onctueuse. Arômes de caramel, herbe, levure. Forte carbonisation. Bon équilibre.
4.1 Deep dark copper and bronze coloured body with a thick three to four centimetre tall tan head that's microfoamed and covers the beer very nicely. Aroma of curacao, roasted, toasted malts, some pitted fruits, a lot of prunes and plums with a strong belgian yeast bite with some candy sugar and a dash of alcohol noticeable at the very end. Full-bodied; Rich candy sugar and pitted fruit notes with some molasses and toasted malts here as well, along with a bigger dash of curacao, yeast, rich toast, prunes and raisins - quite strong. Aftertaste shows the deep yeast with a lot of malts and the sugars first and foremost with some of the yeast and curacao coming afterwards, all ending with a dry molasses and alcohol bite. Overall, a fairly nice beer that is a little less polished than the other trappists, but for whatever reason and however possible, not only had I never had this, but I didn't even know this was a trappist beer, despite many trips to Holland and Belgium, I found this 33 cL bottle in Alaska, of all places! I sampled this 33 cL bottle, purchased from College Garage Wine & Liqours in Fairbanks, Alaska on 24-June-2021 for US$8,00 sampled in my hotel room here in Anchorage, Alaska on 27-June-2021 after seeing beautiful Denali in all it's glory earlier in the day.
3.6 T:M/B malto liev caram, molto agru, liev liquir, liev lievi, M amar C: M/B
3.7 A bit cloudy amber with a slightly off white head. Aroma: Malt: Caramel, bread, tobacco, smoke. Also some hops: Orange. As well as dried fruits. Mouth: Sweet but also some astringency. Moderately bitter towards the end. A touch of smoke. Medium body.
3.8 11.2oz bottle pours out amber topped with a small head. Nose is sweet caramel toffee malts spice kick. Taste is more of the nice caramel toffee some pit fruit and plenty belg spice.
3.7 Oranssisen ruskea lasissa. Tuoksusta löytyy hedelmäisyyttä, hieman maltaisuutta ja belgihiivan tiettyä tallimaisuutta. Suutuntuma on pehmeä ja pirskahteleva. Mausta löytyy edelleen hedelmäisyyttä, toffeeta ja hapotusta.
3.4 Pours clear amber, with an of white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, yeast. Taste is mildly sweet, yeasty, brown sugar, dried red fruit.
4.2 Pours clear caramel with a thick buff head that pillows. Aroma yields caramel, spice, stonefruit and toasted malt. Flavor provides sweet and zesty stonefruit, caramel, cloves, toasted malt, hints of woody hops and cinnamon. Texture delivers decent body and lively fizz. Get your monk on!
4.1 330 ml. bottle, bb 10/07/21. Bronze-copper colored brew with a billowing foam. Nose has chocolate, toffee, dates and lightly spicy bread. Flavors of the same stuff plus a bit of apple and wooden hop. Light-medium bodied with smooth medium-plus carbonation. Big malts on the front are balanced well by a mildly roasty, drying finish. Seems like a dubbel/tripel hybrid, but tasty nonetheless.
